This is a short story that I wrote on the spot. Assuming it does not receive negative reviews, I will go ahead and start writing the second part. Feel free to comment!

The Rogues (Part 1)

It has been 7000 years, A.D. 9016. Much has developed – the housing which is now suspended in the skies for the sake of saving space, the technology, from robots true AI have evolved with ability to think, decide, judge and move as an individual, and the way of life. Much is being replaced by machine and humans leads a much more carefree life. It is the epitome of utopia.

There was one flaw, though: The rogues. A group of humans of unknown origin who have banded together and sworn to destroy the perfect, futuristic world and rebuild it into a living hell, their own earth, too terrible to imagine. For a while, everything was plunged into darkness as a war broke out.

After years, they were defeated by a new generation of tanks, dubbed the “T-eternity tanks” owing to the fact that they were expected to be the best tanks created for all eternity. They were the result of a series of experiments in a hidden R&D lab to find a way to create a machine unrivaled in armour, stability and speed. Eventually, more of such tanks were created, but with different levels of speed and armour. Mass production emerged after that.

Even after that, it did not stop developing. Better tiers emerged, characterized with an M- and a tier number, which allowed for all-round improvement of the tank. Unfortunately it was extremely costly to upgrade a tank, thus only a selected few tanks were chosen for the upgrade.

The tanks were eventually separated into hulls and turrets, with these two being able to be separated. The turrets developed more noticeably than the hulls for a while, with a wider diversity emerging, from the machine-gun type turret named ‘Vulcan’ to the close-ranged ‘Freeze’ with an ingenious pressure pump that allowed it to blast a solid stream of liquid nitrogen from the turret. Each of the turrets were unique in their own respective way.

And one day the greatest development took place: the introduction of the XT series. Similar to the original tanks, but lined with pure gold and insane improvements on all aspects. They were the mark of a true legend, and through their four hundred years of history, there had been no sign of rust, the speed and maneuverability were as smooth as ever. They were one-of-a-kind, even in the super-developed world of A.D. 9000+. Several attempts have been made to create an exact clone of the XT tanks, but none had come close.

Perhaps the most noticeable difference of the XT tanks, though, was that the tanks were intelligent. They would not allow one unworthy of possessing their elite status to control them. Only one with extreme determination and perseverance could be accepted. Unfortunately, through 4 centuries, no such person has been born. Thus, no one knows what will happen if an XT tank accepts a human being.

Shortly after the XT tanks were created, the T-eternity tanks started to become the new standard in the army. Patrols and drills were carried out with these tanks. Slowly the terror that had emerged from that great and dark war against the rogues faded from the people lives.

Life resumed to normal, with only the slightest disturbances that were solved within a day by the police force. Only a few people still remembered the chaos that the rogues had brought about, the extraneous fear that everyone had felt then.

At last time had done its job. The dreadful war was now just a painful memory, a scar in the otherwise perfect history. it was hard to imagine that the majestic skyscrapers standing tall and proud could ever have been reduced to charred and smoking heaps of metal by fire, that the lush green parks were once a blazing inferno, the clear blue sky could ever have been the terrible shade of blood red during the war. It seemed that nothing could spoil the tranquil life.

But one day, an urgent transmission made its way to the police headquarters. A T-eternity tank had been spotted gunning down people in the central metropolis, with no apparent goal whatsoever. When police finally destroyed the tank after an hour-long struggle, they found that it had no registration in the T-eternity tank database, and had also been altered into a much stronger tank than the average one.

Hearing this, the chief-in-command had thought back to a few weeks ago, when a T-eternity tank had mysteriously disappeared. The following week, though, it reappeared as if by magic, at the exact spot where it had gone missing. However, the baffling case was soon forgotten and considered trivial on account of no obvious consequences of the disappearance. Everyone assumed that it had just been sent out for a test run that the police had not bothered about.

And then he connected the dots. The tank disappeared and then was returned, and a few weeks later, this modified T-eternity tank that had not been produced by any known manufacturing companies turns up on the streets, firing at people randomly as if to strike terror into the public. Obviously, a hidden group of nemeses had stolen the tank, built more based on it, but modified it into a more powerful version.

His eyes widened in horror as the truth dawned on him. Everyone had thought it was over, but there was no other explanation.

"Calling all police bases. Calling all police bases. This is a code red. Evacuate the city, and send out search parties to locate the origin of the tank immediately."

"Roger that sir, but is this urgent enough to be code red?"

"If my hunch is right, we're in for one hell of a time."

The rogues were back.
