Do not count posts in the Forum Games section

Recommended Posts

Please don't count count posts in the Forum Games section in players' total post count. This will allow players to actually "spam" in that section without being banned, and make Forum Games purely for fun. It also nice to see a players' honest hard-earned post count. ^_^

Declined.

Completed

It has been considered before but won't happen after a good discussion, that section will die if the posts aren't counted in there anymore, I mean the only reason people post in there is to increase their post count so if the posts aren't counted, I bet anyone will post in there hence abandoning the entire section. Besides, having a little bit of fun for those people is fine I guess, we also do monitor the section so if a player breaks the game rules or starts spamming, it will be deal with not to mention that the Forum auto-merges all posts posted in less than 2 minutes to reduce the spam for those who used to do. If you see a player violating the rules, feel free to use the report function.

And lastly but not least, having a higher post count doesn't mean that you are better than those who has less posts and doesn't affect anything. For example if you want to be a Forum moderator, having less or more posts is not something that will affect your application badly if you have less posts than someone who has posts a lot in the Forum Games section, you 2 have equal chances, in fact I can say that you will certainly have higher chance than that specific player so it isn't something very important.

Edit: Temporarily disabled post count  in the Forum Games section. If it doesn't negatively impact the section, it will remain disabled.

Please remove this update. It will ruin the forum games section. This update will defeat the purpose of some forum topics and will persuade many people to leave. A topic, "[Forum games] Guess how many posts the person below you has" will become useless in hindsight of this update. You see, the reason why the forum games section is fun is because it is pretty active. Some players drop by from time to time, but there are few of those. Most of the players on the forum games section are there for hours at a time, and it is really fun on the section when there are several such people. This update would make all those hours of posting and having fun useless because it wouldn't count towards your reputation, or post count. It would mean that players would leave the section to other sections, especially higher level ranks. There are not many of us lower ranked players compared to the higher level ranks. They will lose interest in the forum games section and drift off. This is very bad because they are the ones spending hours on the forum games section and the ones who post frequently to my posts. The forum games section would become a lot less active, so much so that the lower level ranks would likely leave the forum as they can't really post elsewhere. In addition, the staff does not ban players for "spam" and real spam is very rare. *Note quotations*

I honestly think that the forum games section is a great place for all ranks to mix and be friends. This update would push away the higher level ranks, making for a weaker community. It would lead to low level ranks leaving the forum because the forum games section would be inactive and they just don't have the experience for the other sections. It would leave to the collapse of a community built on having fun even when not in the game. People might even quit Tanki altogether because they don't find the game appealing anymore after being on the forum for so long.

Finally, it would discourage younger forumers from being on the forum. Young people want to have fun. The other sections are simply not as appealing to a younger player as the Forum games section. They would not form great relationships with others. They would not enjoy the game as much.

In conclusion, I sincerely hope that you consider the above argument as an actual argument based on reasons and logical deduction and consider removing this update.

This update will defeat the purpose of some forum topics and will persuade many people to leave.

Some forum games at the moment serve no other purpose than to allow players to easily boost their post count. I'm talking about games like "count to 1000000" and similar. I will gladly watch them die off, as those games have absolutely no competition, creativity, engagement, or anything that would classify them as actual "games".

A topic, "[Forum games] Guess how many posts the person below you has" will become useless in hindsight of this update.

Players still have different post counts and you can still have fun guessing them. I see no way how this change affects that particular game more than any other.

will persuade many people to leave.

If people go on the forum just to increase their post count via forum games, then I don't mind seeing those people leave.

This update would make all those hours of posting and having fun useless because it wouldn't count towards your reputation, or post count.

Having a high post count isn't useful in any way. And it's a false representation of your reputation.

It would mean that players would leave the section to other sections, especially higher level ranks.

Good, I'd much rather see players participate in interesting discussions instead of playing forum games all day.

the lower level ranks would likely leave the forum as they can't really post elsewhere.

Only the lowest rank players can't post anywhere other than in the News section. Players of General group (such as yourself), may reply in any forum topic. The only thing you can't do, is create new topics, but you couldn't create new forum games either for that matter.

In addition, the staff does not ban players for "spam" and real spam is very rare.

We don't ban right away, but spam is definitely punishable. If a player posts a lot of messages that contain little to no value, those posts will be removed and the player may be warned/banned if they continue.

I honestly think that the forum games section is a great place for all ranks to mix and be friends.

So are all other sections. Either way, we're not removing the Forum Games section completely. If you want to go there to socialise and have fun, you can still do so.

they just don't have the experience for the other sections.

It's never too late to start gaining experience :)

It would leave to the collapse of a community built on having fun even when not in the game. People might even quit Tanki altogether because they don't find the game appealing anymore after being on the forum for so long.

This is just taking it to the extreme. Don't be ridiculous.

Finally, it would discourage younger forumers from being on the forum. Young people want to have fun. The other sections are simply not as appealing to a younger player as the Forum games section. They would not form great relationships with others. They would not enjoy the game as much.

Like I said above, the forum games section is still there for young people to enjoy and have fun with. Not having the posts count towards the total post count should not stop anyone fro enjoying forum games. If it does, then it means that you play forum games only for the sake of increasing post count, and if that's the case, then I strongly recommend that you reconsider your attitude towards the forum.

Thank you for disabling post counts in Forum Games. If someone wants to increase their post count it should be done helping others, not playing games. I don't understand what's so important about post counts, anyway.

As for lower ranking players that are not allowed to start a thread or to post a comment because of their rank, they should be spending more time reading the threads and comments from older players so they can learn a little bit more about the game. So when their rank is high enough to post comments and to start a thread, they know what the heck they are talking about.

: Please re-read the suggestion. @Stratosphere is not suggesting the Forum Games being shut down. The suggestion is to not count posts in Forum Games as part of their total post count.

My goodness, did you really had to write a wall like this. Some of the things you mentioned in here do sound good and agree but not all.  -_-

Why not just hide the post count of everyone? I was registred on some old forums a few years ago, they got some problems with spammers, so they decided to hide the post count of all members. Dumbs left the forum and only the "good" members stayed.

It was the same for the reputation. On some forum, under the posts count, you have a little number that represents your reputation. If you received 600 likes on your posts, then the number is 600. Some noobs asked in PM for likes, some others created new accounts to like their own posts. In the end, that number was removed from the profiles and it solved this issue.

When something is not right, Tanki just removes it (like the "arrow down" button). So yeah, if the posts count is such a big issue that you have to exclude the forum games from the count, just hide the posts count of all members and spammers will just vanish.
