Hello there, writers.

We've discussed the ways of promoting the art of writing and how to motivate writers to do their best and we decided to roll out this new initiative. As the title very straightforwardly says, we are offering you a chance to be part of the Newspaper and share your content under our flag. We believe this initiative will make things convenient for both sides. The writers will not have to wait for new writing competitions in the AWS, but instead they will be able to submit articles whenever they want and get some crystals for them. We hope this will motivate you to write more commonly than any competition ever could and that our bonds with writers outside the paper will grow stronger.

Process

The process will be quite simple. Every writer who posts in the Amateur Writing Section will still submit his articles just like he used to. The article will be reviewed by the reporters, and if it meets the requirements and our standards, administrator or Amateur Writing Section helper will contact the author with an offer. If the author will agree on terms, his article will be moved to hidden Newspaper section where it will undergo any necessary procedures like formatting or proofreading. Afterwards, the article will be published in one of the upcoming issues or as a special in the designated section (Specials or eSports section).

Requirements and Rules

- Just like with articles in the Amateur section, we will only be accepting those that reach the 400 words limit. In case

of poems or super short stories, it's advised to publish those as a collection of three or more pieces, otherwise they

might be left in Amateur section despite their quality. In case of other genres like guides, reviews and even

interviews, it's advised to go well over the 400 word limit as these genres usually require far more details and

information to be really valuable for us.

- We won't accept any contest or giveaway topics through this initiative as our intent is to further motivate you to

write and not to hold contests. Contests can only be run by official Newspaper representatives, but you are always

welcome to share your ideas for contests here: http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=357189.

- This initiative will be fully under the moderation of AWS helpers, reporters or administrators. Please do not inquiry

about the result as you will be automatically informed through Forum PM that we are interested in your article. If your

article won't meet our criteria, it will stay in the Amateur section where it will be reviewed and approved/declined in

accordance with the AWS procedures and guidelines.

- We will also accept only the articles that are new. Articles that are outdated or articles that have already been

published in other Forum sections will not be eligible. We are Newspaper, after all.

- To prevent a sudden influx of articles coming from the AWS, we will limit the number of articles from AWS in Issues or

other Newspaper sections where only reporters do publish. Thus, if we will reach a certain quota for a particular

month, it's possible that even really good articles might be left in the AWS. Similarly, if the reporters are working on

very similar topic already, we reserve the right to keep your article in AWS.

- Writers who will participate in this initiative will not have to meet any particular requirements such as regular monthly

activity or having a good karma like official reporters, but they also won't be eligible for any official helper benefits

such as full reporter pay, avatar, paint or Helper of the Month rewards. In case you would like to commit fully to helping

in the Newspaper and potentially have a shot at these rewards, you are free to apply for reporter job here.

- We want to create stronger ties between writers and The Newspaper, however the fact that your articles will appear

in the Newspaper does not make you a representative of the Newspaper or its moderation. Pretending to be part of

the administration or member of project assistants (helpers) is a punishable offense according to point 2.4.1. of Game Rules.

- Writers will receive a crystal prize as a token of our appreciation, or a motivational bonus you may say. Please do not

ask reporters or administration about this bonus, how big it is, or why someone was awarded more or less crystals as

someone else. This bonus will depend on quality of the article. Simply put, better articles will be awarded with more

crystals, those that won't be as astonishing will be rewarded with less. Don't take this as some easy way around to get

crystals. We will be looking for top-notch articles that meet the Newspaper standards or are very close to them.

Originality and hard work will pay off. Plagiarism and any other poor attempts to go around the rules will be strictly

  punished!

- The crystal bonus will be delivered once your article is published in Issue or in official Newspaper section (first Monday

after the publishing date). If you break any rules, publish your article in other section or publicize the content of your

article, your article will be moved back to the AWS and you won't receive the bonus.

We are looking forward to seeing your newly-crafted articles. Feel free to discuss it in the topic, leave suggestions or ask questions.

Yes! I'll get critical quality feedback at last! YES!

It's only been half-meant 'Noice's so far, except when Marc decided to stand up and speak a bit.

Oh no. I can see the paragraphs of feedback already writing across my next article.

I know this isn't the intended feeling to get from a topic like this, but I feel like it might be a letdown or insult to not have your article chosen to be part of the Newspaper. Perhaps the quota is very low or the standards are very high, as those would make it more of a privilege to be chosen as opposed to an insult for not. Also, if a lot of articles are chosen, it seems like the AW section might go down in quality if the best are chosen and the rest left behind.

Clarification please: Is this a major change to the AWS? Or is this just an addition to the already existing structure?

Either way, a potentially nice initiative. Hope it goes well.

The standards will naturally be quite high. Instead of taking it as an insult, I think the mature AWC guys will rather seek ways to improve themselves, always eager for some critical feedback. The immature peeps will take it as an insult, but their immaturity is not our problem. If they decide to wreak havoc everywhere as they plow dissent, because they felt insulted, I trust that Coop's crew will be swift and merciless.

An incentive is an incentive, and if someone thinks they are insulted because they didn't get the rewards, that's their issue, something policy makers should absolutely not take into account.

Also, I'm pretty sure the quota will rarely be touched. Some of the better stuff in the AWS right now cannot be published, because they are Part X of a series - for example, Hippin's tankific. And good stuff in the AWS is always a jewel, a rare and a precious one.

I agree with your last point though, that it might leave AWS a bit lower in quality. But the overall quality of writing in the forum will go up due to the introduction of a strong incentive, and I think that more than offsets any loss of happiness caused in AWS readers caused due to a drop in quality of AWS writings.

iirc though, wasn't there already a way for AWC people to submit articles for the newspaper? Sure, it took a bit longer, but it wasn't that much of a problem, considering the paper comes out every month or so. I'm supposing this is a test run of sorts, so if it is, how long will it last?

This one is permanent. There used to be editorials ran by number of reporters in past like Raphael2 or Remaine, but they did not have any tight requirements or specifications.

Contests basically work on the same principle. Instead of seeing it as a failure, see it as room for improvement or a goal to aim at.

Where to submit the article?

Will I have to make a new topic and submit it in Amateur writing section?

Just write whatever you have to write and post on Amateur Writing Section. A moderator will view, edit, and approve it. Then, if the administration deems your writing to be of significant quality, the administration will contact you.

MAYBE I'm too late but people still submit their articles or this topic supposed to be closed?

You submit your article whenever you want in the AWS not this topic. :)

If they want your piece in the Newspaper, they will contact you! Good luck!

Do not worry about anything, just write your heart out, publish it in the Amateur Writing Section, and if it is entertaining - in whatever manner - it will be rewarded :).
