A pity to see this over; I’ve learned quite a lot about the Newspaper’s history since it started and made some new acquaintances through it. Hopefully there’ll be some other great contests soon!

I haven't slept for a long time waiting for this week's question so I'm just gonna submit twice, one for longest by number of series and one for longest by timespan. I hope you count whichever contains the correct answer because just face it, you weren't being specific enough.

how can dictator be considered long..

you asked for the "longest running series"

for something to be the "longest running" it has to be longest in terms of either distance or time. because these are the only things that can be measured by length.

"number of issues" is neither time nor distance.

and because you can't measure a series by distance, the only thing to measure it's length with is it's timespan.

I have to disagree with the "The Dictator" being the answer.

In "History of Newspaper" on tankiwiki it is clearly mentioned:

"Little would change in the next couple of months. Stand-out moments included the beginning of the series of "In the Beginning, Tanki" which would eventually become the longest series to date,"

Source: https://en.tankiwiki.com/History_of_the_Newspaper

As far as I know, tankiwiki is maintained well, and official source that we all go to.

The thing is that while at the time of writing that was true, it is no longer accurate in any way. At least in this instance, the Wiki is outdated because History of Newspaper was actual writing rather than only info.

"if the english community..."

The dictator started with sedition 25 and had 32 issues till February this year. "If the English comunity" did not run that many edition.

The wiki was not the right tool to look at for this. It was all in the newspaper archive. The wiki page about the newspaper is incomplete as it stopped like 4 years ago. Wiki is good for game value, the rest is very up to the personality of the writer. You should always try to find another source for comparison. Edited by Merovingian

"number of issues" isn't something that can be measured as "longest"

something can only be long in terms of either distance or timespan.

the number of issues dictator has had is irrelevant as number of issues is neither time nor distance and as such cannot be measured in terms of length

Ok fair enough. Thanks. Then "The Dictator series" seems to be the right answer.

Congrats to the winners.  Thanks @Flexoo for running this contest. Enjoyed it. Hopefully, it returns soon.

The use of "longest running" is an English expression currently used and understood, see this example: longest-running-tv-shows-all-time
