I know that this isn't what many players want to hear, but currently they're working on improving the matchmaking system and not on making it an optional feature. For the players that don't want to use the matchmaking system, there's the option to play PRO battles. At the expense of missions though.

Don't tell anyone.. Reading this makes me wonder, are you aware that you can still play battles without buying a PRO pass through the matchmaking system? In order to access those battles, you have to press the green button at the top of the battle list that says 'Battle!'. Then the matchmaking panel will open, click on any of the 'Play' buttons to enter battles without needing a PRO pass. Do keep in mind though that you will be taken to a battle at random, so you can't choose the map or team. I wouldn't worry about that all too much if I were you..;p

It's a choice, yes. Although it's of course possible that some players might feel they have no choice but to buy drones to stay competitive. At this moment it is still too early to say how much advantage drones might give in battles though. They will be converted into single protection modules that you combine to any combination of three protections during battles. The precise details of the conversion are not known yet, but if your modules are worth more than the single modules you get after the conversion, the difference will be compensated for in the form of battery supplies for drones.

I think it makes more sense to upgrade the single protections instead of a combination of three, since you can make any possible combination with your single protections and you can change them whenever you want.

It means that you will have to wait until they start sending out more invites.

Those long waiting times still need to be fixed. In the mean time, click 'exit' if the waiting time exceeds a few minutes and try again. That should take you to a battle much faster than in 12 minutes.

You're right, that's definitely a reason for concern. In order for matchmaking to work as intended, it's imperative that enough players use the matchmaking system. On one hand there are the default options and apart from those, you have room for customization. It does indeed seem a bit excessive to have 3 different keys for the exact same action (camera movement up and down has 3 default keys), but perhaps it's for players to have a bit more versatility. And yes, all 3 columns work if you were to set them up. E.g. I have all three columns for turret rotation set: The first two columns are the default settings and the third column contains the keys I use to play.

There have been several reports about an issue just like the one you're mentioning. In those cases it was a visual but which listed one of the clan members as having been in the clan for an impossible amount of days. Did you notice how many days exactly this commander had been in the clan?

Thank you for letting us know the timer issue hasn't been fixed yet. In the meantime my advice to you would be to press 'exit' if the waiting time lasts more than a few minutes and then try again, it should take you to a battle in a lot less time.

While the current m3 modules have a standard 35% protection, this doesn't have to be the case with the new modules. Unfortunately, the exact details of the conversion haven't been communicated with us, so I can't answer your question.
