True Thunder M3 unlocks just after 3 ranks of being captain that is Brigadier. So Micro-upgrading Thunder M2 will not be that great Idea according to me since the next and the last Upgrade of Thunder is going to be available after those three ranks and after that you'll upgrade it anyway to M3 so the crystals you wasted on M2 will not be any use then. But after getting M3 you can MU it many times as you wish to since it's the most powerful of all the versions.

You should first buy Hornet M2 If it's the main hull you use cause you will definitely need it at this rank. And I suppose you use the combo Hornet / Thunder. So hornet will be better than wasp and mammy until unless you go in DM.

You should definitely save for a Rail M1. You won't need hornet if you are good at wasp and already have it's M1 Therefore you can use the combo Wasp / Rail which is good if used proplery. I would not suggest buying a paint though at this rank , you should save for better paints which unlocks a little later but they are worth it.
