  1. An example has now been provided in the Tournament Topic. Good luck!
  2. On the contrary, it might restrict people since the topics are limited because who knows what the devs will do next. This way we'll get a bit of variety, at least.

This topic holds the Top 5 entries of each weeks challenge. They may or may not have been slightly reformatted prior to being posted here. Edition One, Week One Edition One, Week Two Edition One, Week Three Edition One, Week Four
  4. PLEASE NOTE: We will be awarding crystals for the writers of the winning 5 each week. There will also be a grand prize for the player with the highest amount of points at the end of the tournament. The crystals for this weeks winners will be sent out soon, Monday the latest. As for seeing the entries, we will post the Top 5 each week in a separate topic, which will be linked in the Tournament topic.
  5. Day 435: Have successfully lulled them into a false sense of security. Commencing phase two: pull out their hair so that my mind controlling rays will not encounter interference. Possible exceptions to this scheme: @Yisroel.Rabin has no mind to control, and therefore shall keep his hair.

    a helluva thing

Approved. It is one of the greatest pleasures to us not to have to make a single correction to an article, and this is one of those rare moments. Amazing writing, amazing plot. Easily one of the best, if not the best piece I've read in the Amateur Writing Section. 10/10, well done.
  7. Approved. -Minor grammar and rephrasing. Quite the finale! I'll be looking forward to more stories from you, keep it up ;)
  8. Eh, well, I won't try to push you into it. Just keep an eye on the topic and see what happens.
  9. It would be nice if you could cut it down a bit, but we can make allowances at our discretion.
  10. Perhaps things have changed while you were gone. We've addressed a few problems, got our butts in gear, and most of all the members of the AWC are playing an active role in the running of this, as you might have noticed from the comments section of this post. You could participate in it yourself, and see how it goes, eh?

    Challenges!

Approved. -Minor grammar corrections. Interesting thoughts. Perhaps next time you could include some more, eh?
  12. Approved. -Rephrased certain areas. Sometimes, it's better to say something in simple, plain language rather than using complicated words. Another thing I noticed was that when you used certain phrases they were in the wrong order, so look out for those when you write.
  13. Yeah, you can if you want to. Just make sure it's within the guidelines.
  14. You can, but it really isn't worth it since it isn't a story or a series. Also, the length won't be enough to justify approving it. For now, the plan is to run this one for four weeks, since it's a whole new concept. After this is finished, based on community interest, we may make them longer.

Amateur Writing Tournament: Edition One [Complete] Standings

Hello again, forumer, and welcome to the Amateur Writing Sections latest writing contest: The Amateur Writing Tournament! What is it, you say? Well, here's a handy guide to get you started. The way it works is this. Each week, we will provide a different challenge, or topic, for you writers to write for. In the case of a challenge, you must write an article of a specified length, within the conditions given. This will range from things like the kinds of words allowed to including a specific word in every sentence of the article. We aim to provide a new challenge or topic every week, and each week the three best entries will be rewarded with points, and the best one will receive a crystal reward. Amateur Writing Club members will have their points added to the Amateur Writing League standings, and will be eligible for the rewards granted by ranking up within the League. At the end of the series of challenges, the writers with the highest amount of total points will be rewarded with crystals, regardless of whether they are AWC members or not. The challenges will rise in difficulty each week, but the rewards will also be boosted to make it worth your while. This contest is open to ALL forum members, but only Amateur Writing Club members will have their points added to the AWC League. A special thanks goes out to @kaisdf, who came up with the idea for this style of tournament. He will also be helping us to run and rate entries. This topic will be updated each week with each new challenge and current standings, so check back on it for progress reports! Overall Standings Player Points 1. Magenta 23 2. Hippin_in_Hawaii 22 3. darthvadermaximum 15 4. Toxiclaw 14 5. BOSS.NESS & GENERAL_H_A_M_Z_A_9 13 This weeks results: 1. Hippin_in_Hawaii: 2. Magenta 3. gnileenK 4. darthvadermaximum & sniva 5. [Completed, results released] Challenge, Week Three: “Wonderfully Weird” [Completed, results released] Challenge, Week Four: “Something's different...” [Completed, results released] Thanks to everyone who participated in this Tournament, and again to @kaisdf for keeping everything running smoothly! We'll see you again soon with more of this, so look out for that!
  16. Approved. -Rephrased a few sentences. Always capitalize the names of turrets, hulls, and paints, since they're nouns as well. Very nice. Good use of the cliffhanger too, torture your readers a bit :P
  17. Approved. -Minor reformatting. Hey, this is really good. Is it an original story, or is it based off another book or movie?
  18. Approved. -Minor grammar and phrasing corrections. Sometimes, it looks much better to use single words rather than words combined with "very". For example, instead of "very fast", you can use the words "suddenly", which makes for much better reading. I quite like the idea of this. I'll be waiting for the next installment ;)

    A guide to Monte Carlo

Approved -Grammar and spelling corrections. -Formatting corrections. -Put the pictures in spoilers. Overall, not a very definitive guide. There was no mention of tactics, and the same advice was repeated over and over again. Also, using the same picture without modifying it yourself to show routes or anything, and just telling people to imagine the flags away doesn't really do anything to guide them.

    [Issue 69] How To Drive

Ever crashed into a wall? Fallen into a chasm of doom? Skidded straight into a indestructible and yet frail looking tree? If you have, you’ve come to the to the best place to probably not learn to maybe avoid death by driving. Yes, buckle up and pray start those engines, for you are now entering twee’s driving school! Choose a hull to suit your playing style As humans, which I assume you lot are, each of us has a preferred playing style; such as being a defender, a midfielder, and so on. As such, selecting a turret and hull that complements that style is pretty much a no-brainer. Here’s a rough, and by no means a concrete, guide on what goes where. Attacker: Wasp, Hornet, Hunter Midfielder: Hornet, Hunter, Viking, Dictator Defender: Viking, Dictator, Titan, Mammoth So, once you’ve chosen your combo, proceed forth into the sunlight, open your handy guidebook, and thumb your way to... Lesson 1: Know Your Hull Every hull in the game is sized differently, acts differently, and drives differently. Therefore, once you’ve picked your preferred one, spend some time getting to know its ins and outs. Drive it around corners and obstacles of all types, jump it, max out its speed, see how it reacts to impact from weapons, and so on. Now that you know how your hull behaves, you can proceed onto mastering some skills. Lesson 2: Trim The Apex Now, whenever you turn into a corner, you’ll want to get out of it as fast and as cleanly as possible. The best way to do this is to trim the inside apex of it, or in simpler terms, to get as close as possible to the boundary of the corner in the direction that you’re turning. To master this, you’ll need to know at exactly which point to start and stop turning, so always keep an eye on the bottom edge of the corner, as shown below. As long as you make sure that you don’t catch the edge of your hull on that edge, you’ll be able to screech your way through the corner without any loss of speed or time. Lesson 3: Reversing The art of driving backwards, as demonstrated by Cars 2, is not to be sniffed at. It’ll help you out of tight corners (often literally), and can be used in practically every mode of the game. So what’s it all about? - First off, get to know how your tank behaves when it’s going backwards. Depending on your settings, the controls will invert themselves or stay the same when you start reversing, so check those out if you’re not sure. - Get used to reversing with your turret turned all the way around. This is where the control inversion will probably come in handy, since when you’ve swung it around completely you can proceed to drive backwards the same way as you would normally. Of course, if you don’t want to invert it, you’ll just have to familiarize yourself with the change. - Make sure you know your surroundings. This is invaluable, since if you don’t have your turret turned all the way around, you have no way of knowing what lies behind you, and if you’re shooting an enemy in front of you, turning your turret while retreating is not an option. This way, you’ll be able to reverse back to your teammates, and face off the enemy team majestically. Lesson 4: Jumps Be it charging up and over a ramp, falling off a wall, or driving right off a cliff, there are many ways to jump in TO. There are a couple of advantages to jumping, such as getting away from a marauding enemy and cutting some distance off a route to get somewhere faster. Whatever the reason, you’ll probably find yourself needing to jump at some point of time, and when you do it, you’ll want to do it properly, so listen up. When jumping, make sure that your hull is at the correct angle at the moment that you entrust your fate to gravity, and that you know exactly where you will land. Try as much as possible to position yourself so that you hit the ground square-on, as you’ll be able to accelerate away the moment you hit the ground, and also minimize the risk of performing an embarrassing roll that ends with you upside down with the enemy team lining up to take pot shots at you. Also, if you mess up the jump and you happen to have a turret with recoil handy, you can use the recoil to right yourself mid-jump. Simply point your turret in the direction that you’re tipping toward, and fire. For example, if you’re pitching towards the left, fire at the left, thereby using the recoil to push yourself to the right mid-jump. Lesson 5: Attacking At some point of time, you will find yourself needing to push into the enemies territory, or drive them out of yours - or you might simply want to go on a murderous, supply-fueled rampage. When you do want to do this, you can use a few driving tactics to survive longer and bag yourself a few more kills. - Peek-a-boo If the route you take has conveniently placed props that provide cover on it, use them to your advantage. Hide behind them and cover in fear rock back and forth in and out of cover while firing. This makes sure that you get protection from incoming fire, and you'll also be able to land a few shots on the enemy team while you're at it. This is a particularly good technique if you're entering heavily protected enemy bases. - Head on The most popular method of attacking, this involves charging headlong into the enemy base, usually with all supplies enabled. Not much scope for improvement, but there are a couple of ways to make it more effective, especially if you're playing a team battle. Timing; If what you want is nothing more than to shock and awe, you can time it to your teams advantage. As there are usually more than two routes into enemy territory, distract your opponents from one side, and allow other players to sneak into their base while everyone focuses on killing you. I need healing; If you have an obliging Isida on your side, persuade them to follow you while you push into enemy territory and heal you. You'll both last longer this way, and thus kill ALL OF THE TANKS. It's always nice to leave some kills to your Isida, and to protect them as well, mind. Lesson 6: Defensive Driving You’ve got the flag. You have one objective, getting it to your base. But for some strange reason, the enemy team doesn’t feel inclined to let you do so. They give chase, and obviously having more skill MU’s than you because they’re spending their crystals well noob mult buyers, they immediately catch you, kill you, and return the flag; the point at which you rage quit and report them for hacking. To avoid such a situation, you can employ a few tactics to bamboozle your opponents. Let’s get to the obvious ones first. - Avoid open areas. Depending on the map, there’ll almost always be a temptingly clear, straight route to where you want to go. Yeah, don’t take that. You’ll be used for target practice by Shafts, Railguns, and other nasties from the other team. Instead, use the props on your map for cover. Drive through lines of bushes, dart from rock to rock, and basically pretend that you’re Dracula on a sunny day. For example, these are some suggested routes on Serpuhov. - Throw off their aim Although your new, camo-ed route may offer better cover, that doesn’t mean that you’ll be completely free from the threat of death by explosion. In that case, you’ll need to counter your opponents uncanny ability to plant shells in your rear. To do so, zig-zag when possible, and if you know that there’s a shot heading your way, change direction and speed. A good way to do so is by sudden braking or reversing. If you’re following your team’s flag carrier - Provide cover When you’re both doing a runner back to your base, it should be your top priority to keep the flag bearer safe. As such, making yourself into a shield is one of the best ways to cement your reputation of being an exemplary team player. When you and the flag bearer come to exposed areas or come under fire from the opposing team, position yourself so that you take the brunt of the impact from their shots, providing the flag bearer with some additional armour and time to get the flag away safely. You may die yourself, but by doing so you make sure that the objective of the game is completed, and may even ensure victory. - Neutralize any threats If you’re still in enemy territory, chances are that you’ll be confronted by lots of angry tankers wanting their flag back. Since the flag bearer is going to be busy trying to not die, it’ll be your job to take care of anything that may impede their progress. So, if there’s a mine in the middle of the only path out and you’re being pursued, take the hit and give the flag bearer a clean passage through. If there are any enemies in the way, ram them clear of the path of the player with the flag, and throw off their aim as much as possible. Again, you may be destroyed, but you will be ensuring another captured flag for your team. Lesson 7: Just For Fun Just because you’re playing with a bunch of bloodthirsty maniacs with tanks and good internet connections, doesn’t mean that you can’t show off and have a bit of fun while you drive. Learn to drift around corners, pull off a few pirouettes, and for maximum points... Well, that’s pretty much everything you’ll need to drive like a pro out there. Feel free to tell me whether I forgot anything in the comments, practice these moves, make up some of your own, and above all, drive hard!

    [Guide] Utilization of Shaft

Approved. -Reformatted and corrected about three quarters of the article. -Language and grammar corrections. -Underlined titles. A few tips; always capitalize the first letter of turrets and hulls, as they are names. Also, I noticed a lot of needless repetition when you were giving your opinions and quite often you contradicted those opinions in the very next line. Also, stop using commas like you're Saltbae salting a steak, it makes it incredibly hard to read a paragraph and even more tedious to edit it. A fullstop usually does the job much better.
