As a Microsoft Edge user myself, I'm also experiencing the same problem, for quite a long time now - though I found a solution. To temporarily fix this bug, click once on your browser's address bar (while you're replying to a topic) and then click back on the Forum post editor, and you'll be able to insert spaces again. Sorry for the late reply, I hope this helps. :)
