I agree, rewards were increased but EXP was decreased. An odd choice but now ranking up is even more painfully slow. With Premium it only goes back to the rate it used to be.

They are relevant, but not essential. They do give a small advantage but they are mostly just a crystal sink hole. There are much better things to buy to give yourself an advantage.

(Above in my quote) - Most individual kills in ASL was more aimed towards the blue team because for them it's more TDM alike, but either team can apply. Would you rather buyers have their own premium currency that they can buy OP equipment with? Looks and paints included, are the best way for an MMO to generate money without affecting gameplay for free players.
