The Missing Piece “It can’t be true.” he said to himself as he drove his jeep through the forest, to where his family treasure was. His name was Kurt, a tall dark haired 16 year old with dark blue eyes. When he made it to the spot, all he found was a hole. “It’s true.” he said quietly as he stared at the empty hole. Then he saw something by the hole, half buried in leaves and sand. He pulled it up and studied it. Some of it was rubbed off, but what he could make out read “O-ce you fi-d a-d ge- the tr---u-e, ta--it to me at th- u-derg-o-und i-nven---er’s ro-m, a-d we w-l- -sp-it b-t -et--en the c-ew.” What are the missing letters? He thought to himself as he turned over the paper to look on the other side. Nothing there. “This is all you found? They didn’t leave anything else, just this? No footprints or tracks or anything?” His brother Mike asked after reading the note left behind by the robbers. He was 18 and little taller than his brother but had the same blue eyes. “I don’t know, I came home as soon as I found this.” Kurt replied. “Then what are we waiting for? Let’s go look for tracks and other clues.” Mike half-shouted “See any foot prints?” Kurt asked Mike “No I don’t s- no wait! There’s some!” Mike said as he pointed down and a little to the right. Kurt and looked in the direction Mike was pointing. He saw large boot prints that stopped after a couple yards, then tire tracks lead on for miles. “Think we should follow them?” Kurt asked. “Yes, I think we should. Let’s go home to pack some food and water for the trip.” After they packed, they set off in the direction of the tracks, not knowing what was waiting for them less than a few miles away.
