  1. Daryl Hall performs with his band and guests...great idea. I never had any idea Daryl Hall was such a good muscian, singer, prouducer. These shows are great. There have been 82 episodes of "Live from Daryl's House" so far. This is one clip of a segment from episode #25. There is a tonnage of clips on YouTube, but the complete shows are hard to find. I downloaded a few complete shows from a torrent client a few years ago. Patrick Stump is from Fall Out Boy...he does a wonderful job with this old soul tune.

    "Let's be Tanki Friends" Event

I played a few more games....damn it makes my computer run super super hot...like scary dangerous hot. Anyone have any ideas why this would be? Regular Tanki is fine and the computer runs perfectly, but you could cook eggs with the air that is venting when TankiX runs. It's much hotter than a hair dryer.

    "Let's be Tanki Friends" Event

I sure hope TankiX is not the direction of TankiOnline. I didn't care fot TX at all...the graphics were interesting at first, but got distracting after the initial couple of battles. What a lame and needlessly confusing game. There is as much downtime as TO. I played about twelve games...I forgot to verify my email for the first five or six games. It took forever to download and install. It refused to install on my computer where I wanted it to install...it has to go where it wishes to go or you get a missing .rtf file that won't load which keeps the game from opening. It took a very long time (maybe thirty to forty minutes) for the game to "initialize" I just about cntrl-alt-deleted out of the game and fooey on the 10 containers. It's also inconvenient that it only opens and then stays in full screen. After 12 games, I can say that I don't care for TX at all....I doubt I will ever open it again. I plan to uninstall it as soon as the ten containers come through. What I really can't fathom is why AP would spend time and resources on two games that are very similar.
  4. I almost passed this by the first time through, but played it again when I had a chance to relax more and really listen...very nice. In fact this is going into my monthly rotation. Her voice and phrasing has an almost percussive quality...bass players call this pulse and strive to achieve it. She has definitely nailed this. The studio and production work is immaculate. A definite earworm...I can hear it now as I type, even though it is not playing at the moment. Another one I almost passed by until I gave it a longer more relaxed listen. I think when I first heard it, her thin-ish sounding voice kind of put me off, but now I see it as a very effective part of the build to the dub step style punch. I really like it now. I like this, but in a small dose. I don't think I could listen to this over and over without having some sort of mental collapse...it's just, so...frenetic. The chord progression in the chorus is very tasty and the way they incorporate rests to highlight the next phrase is very dramatic and effective. Never heard these guys before, thanks for the reveal. l3y1ord Lol, you posted YouTube...joke, joke. Some great songs...these songs of freedom, (that one is going into my rotation...love this version :)) Gosh, the P.Collins clip is such dynamic rock-drama...so good.
  5. I'm slowly going back through the pages of this thread. I just wanted to thank you for this post...I really like it. I put it in my music rotation for the month. You also posted Aqua...I always felt the band got a bum rap because of their humor. I think they were a great band and put out some wonderful songs...yeah, a little campy, but still really good. Thanks again :) Wow! Wow...I am going to post this then look up other songs from this band?/singer? Never heard of this before, but I liked it right away...gotta hear more! ------------------a bit later: I didn't even get that (((0))) was the singer...is her other name June Marieezy? The KFJ gives me lots of new stuff to listen to. Thanks for the post...made my day :) This song is a little surprising from Charlie Puth It sounds like it might be an escapee from the late 90's early 00's boy band era...without the choreography of course...and the multiple boys. I'm going to listen to it a few more times and I have the feeling I will end up liking it, but it will have to grow on me. Something with a little more bite:
  6. Anybody watch Game of Thrones? If you do, this is hilarious...just brilliant!
  7. When I first heard this I thought it was just more shock pop...talk about drugs and sex in rock 'n roll and you automatically hook the Bevis and Butthead block of fans, ah-huh-huh-huh. But the more I listened the more I liked it...it's very catchy. Other stuff she does is almost the same and it's all the same topics, sex 'n drugs, but there is something to it. Maybe it's just the unabashed decadence...dunno. I did look her up online and Wikipedia paints a portrait of her personal life as being pretty much what she sings about...unabashed decadence. OK, well, ah-huh-huh-huh, I included two other songs that are kinda the same but different and seem to be somewhat better than her other songs that are about the same but different. I'd really be interested to hear what you guys think about Ängie, ah-huh-huh-huh.
  8. I like this song...especially the instrumental bridge starting a bit after 2:32. I've always been a sucker for sweeping strings bounced against a pushing groove. Again, the YouTube compression muddies this up so badly. All the parts are clear and easy to distinguish on the CD. The mud gets so bad towards the end, it's hard to tell what is even happening in the accompaniment. We lost France Gall this last January, but she left this great song behind for us. Alizee, the singer of the song posted above, did a cover version of Ella, elle l'a, and it is good, but doesn't have the impact of France Gall's original version.
  9. Sure..."I just had to post the original to clear my auditory palate." This He-Man meme kind of grates on my ears and every time I hear it I need to go back to the original recording of the song to get the He-Man version out of my head. I posted it here just in case anyone needed to do the same thing or might not have been familiar with the original. ...How could anyone not know the original you ask? My own daughter played the He-Man meme for me not long ago and was shocked to hear that it was based on an early 90's tune. "This is one of those songs that just doesn't cover very well because of the singer's powerful and unique voice." This is harder to explain since it is just my own opinion. But I'll try. Linda Perry, the singer for 4 Non Blondes, has a very strong voice. The timbre of her voice is also rather unique and unusual. These two qualities combined make What's Up have a very specific sound. This vocal sound in conjunction with the...........gosh...too much....It's a very catchy song that becomes an earworm very easily. Because it's hard to get the original out of your head, the song doesn't lend itself to covers because the cover makes you hear the original regardless of the cover version. Almost any cover version is doomed from the beginning to be "less than" the original...the covers tend to be relegated to "imitations" rather than a new treatment of the original song. Anyway, this is just my pretty much worthless opinion and somebody might come up with a great cover version...I just haven't heard one yet. I guess that what I'm trying to say is sometimes a vocal quality becomes synonymous with a particular song in our collective minds...kind of unfunny memes in a way. This makes those particular songs hard to cover. I hope I didn't offend you...that was no where near my intention. Music is music and we like what we like exactly for the reason we like it. And as far as the time frame goes for music, I think history will show the 10s and coming 20's as one of the most innovative and prolific times in pop music's history. Just the tonnage of music being produced now and in the near future almost mandates that there will be absolutely great memorable tunes being generated...way more than any other decade. Why? Because any musician can be heard now via the internet venues...it is also easier to realize your own idea of music because of innovations in computer programs related to music. Look at Garage Band from Apple...OMG! It's an orchestra or rock band in your pocket. Synthesia for the keyboard inclined, transcription software, drum machines, samplers, vocaloids, sound editors, and bunches of other computer doo-dads that never existed before...even in the 90s. Right now you can go online and lay down great trax in literally seconds on dozens of sites. Here is one: JamStudio And another type: BassButton This is a very very exciting time in pop music....there will be incredible music that comes from this period in time, retrospect will help sift the chaff that clutters up every era in pop music and will leave lots of memorable great tunes. Incidentally, click this awesome meme.
  10. Dude! ...Dude! I totally forgot about this song from C.S. I really like it too! I had a major celebrity crush on Carly Simon when I was a little whipper-snapper...it may have been the No Secrets album cover. Anyway, you missed a golden opportunity to post Ms Simon dancing and fooling around to this song...I just found this on YT after your post (thank you so much!). It looks like it may have been from a TV show...maybe it was the video released with the song....dunno...but it's cool to see Carly being the beautiful young woman she once was.
  11. Robbie Robertson, another giant of rock that runs under the mainstream. He has so many great songs, it's hard to choose. I thought of this one because of Peter Gabriel on keyboard and singing in the background. There is an ambient intro to about 0:50...then a subtle statement of the main theme to about 1:25 where the verse rolls to the beautiful refrain at 2:05. From this point the song is in full swing. Did Robbie Robertson write this song for me? Probably not, but it does strike a chord here and there. ;)
  12. Deep Forest was a kind of period phenomon that sort of morphed out of the pelothora of insipid and mostly vapid New Age Music. Sadly their the unique sound became dated very quickly. I always thought of it as ambient new age electronic tribal music...uhh, yeah. Anyway, this collaboration with Peter Gabriel, a champion of world and ethnic music, pretty much kicks butt. While the World Sleeps (this song's title) is from the end credits and is actually an intergral part of the story. The movie was very good and this song on the end credits topped it off nicely. The actual soundtrack ends at about 2:20, but some bozo dj dork appearantly decided to extend the soundtrack with his remix skills. Deep Forest's biggie hit compressed into audio hell, but it's vaguely listenable..it's much less repetitive and more interesting with good fidelity. Peter Gabriel is so diverse and has so many great tunes, it's hard to pick, but here is some da funk.
  13. I just had to post the original to clear my auditory palate. This is one of those songs that just doesn't cover very well because of the singer's powerful and unique voice. ...anyone else think she has kind of an unusually large mouth?
  14. ByeByeBye

What do you do during the MM waiting time?

While waiting for a battle I listen to YouTube music. Also, while waiting, I discovered the Music Thread on this forum and have been ruthlessly posting some of the music I like and finding tons of new music (to me anyway) that other players have posted. In fact, I'm waiting for a Rugby battle right now!
  15. Inovations in the music industry... Songs from a Room (Sofar) has a brilliant marketing idea. They put on secret concerts all over the world. There are generally no "headline" acts but usually very tasty aspiring artists preforming...in a real concert...menaing the audiences main purpose is to LISTEN and not drink beer, chat, or fart around on their phones. Seating is very limited (usually about 70) and tickets are awarded by lottery via Sofar's website. Venues have been stores, living rooms, roofs, the beach, attics, and even bedrooms...anywhere an intimate atmosphere can be generated. The concert usually has three diverse artists. The ticketed audience is notified of the location (in their respective city of course) 24 hours in advance but the line-up is not given until the show itself. The audience is encouraged to show up on time or even early and stay for the entire show. Performers apply via the Sofar website. Sofar personel oversee the concert and generate a uniformity between venues and different cities. The concert is filmed and the edited video product is uploaded to their YouTube channel. ...Just friggin' brilliant! There are bunches of Sofar concerts posted on YouTube. I like these guys, City of the Sun, acoustic post-rock rockers...yeah!
  16. Why do you think this slowass lounge jazz crap is any good? Well, I'm glad I asked myself that...and I will try to answer me. ...I was going to write up a breakdown of this brilliant piece in the hopes of turning some of your ears more towards the beauties of jazz, but it was just taking too long and was really boring...and I'm just too damn lazy. So quickly...listen to this 3 times....and if you don't fall in love with it, I'll give you your money back. As you listen to Céu's voice, think of it as an instrument and contrast the sultry smooth flow and relaxed sound to the more intense snappy rhythm section that pushes each phrase into the next. The piano solo bridge will probably leave most of you cold, but if you listen very closely there is a very distinct method in H.H.s madness and the architecture of this solo is sublime. Tempo de Amor is soaring velvet hammer of hard-driving power chords pushed by relentless samba on a path of transitions. Incidently it's just an intro until about 0:50. Three times and you'll be hooked. ;)
  17. And one more bit of dinosaur rock from Cold Blood...heavy horn lines and a great singer Lydia Pense. This was from the very early 70's. It was a good and very diverse musical period. Now, with the advent of SoundCloud and YouTube, pop music has expanded it's horizons like never before and I believe that history will show this musical period we are in right now to the the most prolific and diverse period of all time for pop music...you are part of history in the making! When I put up Valdez in the Country, I didn't think about it being just instrumental. Lydia Pense is such a great singer and was critical to the essence of Cold Blood. Even though this is probably the most popular Cold Blood tune, I don't think Cold Blood ever had a top 40 "hit". This was underground music even in the day. I just reveled in the whole East Bay Grease thing. ================================================================================================== smokeyh2 I used to love Tull, haven't listened to anything but Aqualung in years though. Tull was, again from that very diverse late 60s and early 70s period. I am showing a dead link to "Minstrel In The Gallery". If others are missing the link too, here is another one in the spoiler.
  18. One (ok, more than one) for smokeyh2 who was most likely a head back in the hippi-dippy-daze. smokeyh2 would have been a bit of a youngster for this one in 1968, but I'm pretty sure this one will bring a smile. You get a decent idea of the song, but it is compressed to hell, and as such, loses some of it's impact, but back in the day there would have been scratches, pops, and clicks in the vinyl anyway...so this is OK...I guess. The first spoiler has a more contemporary, higher fidelity version of this song done live...it sounds much better overall, but isn't exactly like the original. It also has another of my favorite Traffic songs, "The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys". The second spoiler is a full length version of this song from a vinyl record. I included it because it is the full album and doesn't have a lot of compression...the fidelity is quite good and you can hear what is actually going on with the instruments. The album has several really good tunes and is a satisfactory source. It should open to 40,000 Headmen and "Low Spark" is on there too. You would probably be better off clicking the YouTube icon on the video and use YTs links embedded in the "more" menu to navigate the full album. The third spoiler is a Blood Sweat and Tears cover of the song that I used to liked better than Traffic's version. In 2018 it sounds a bit dated, mostly due to the cheesy song stylings of David Clayton Thomas...and it is compressed to hell. I wish the original fidelity was available on YouTube, the actual musical arrangement is still very interesting. The fourth spoiler is the title track from Traffic's 1970 album John Barleycorn Must Die. I wasn't going to include it, but it's just so damn good. I actually didn't care for this song back in the 70's, but now I really really like it...times change, our taste change. Traffic - 40,000 Headman Traffic - 40,000 Headmen / The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys - Live 1994 Tour Traffic The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys Full album vinyl LP Blood, Sweat & Tears - 40,000 Headmen John Barley Corn (Traffic - John Barleycorn Must Die)
  19. Talking Heads ushered in an entire genre of music...New Wave in the late 70s. New Wave was more commercially and socially acceptable than it's older cousin, Punk. In fact, Talking Heads was originally considered a Punk band but their producers coined the term "New Wave" especially for them to seperate them from the Punk genre. The new term worked very very well. New Wave washed over Punk like the tidal wave it was and ushered in a new era of pop music...Blondie, Devo, The Police, Spandau Ballet, Depeche Mode, The Cars, Cindi Lauper, Real Life, The Motels, Gary Numan, Kajagoogoo, The Fixx, and litterally hundreds more I can think of off the top of my head. Talking Heads went through many musical changes. "Naked", one of their later albums is my personal favorite and it draws heavily from African genres. But the pinnacle of their time as a band was probably when they released the concert film and soundtrack "Stop Making Sense". In my opinion "Stop Making Sense" and "The Band - The Last Waltz" are the two finest concert videos ever made....EVER...Monterey Pop is another dandy too, but not in a league with Stop Making Sense or The Last Waltz. Anyway, Take Me To The River is a great track from an earlier album when Talking Heads had first started. This version is done live from Stop Making Sense.
  20. When I first heard Seal, I really thought that he was destined to be become one of the next musical mega-superstars, but he faded into semi-obscurity in less than five years and now, a little more than 20 years out he is pretty much a one hit wonder. I also predicted that Madonna's heppy-peppy-happy "Holiday" would be her one hit wonder and she would quickly fade into obscurity. So much for my musical prognostication. Great post...I haven't heard Seal in years. Now I'm gonna bust out the entire CD and give it a couple of listens. I remember I used to love it!

    English please!

Here is the latest news flash from Tanki, Quote: "Get ready to jump into battle and rain meteors on unsuspecting players like never before with the weekly community stream today, as we push MM with tankers from the chat, launch a new round of Codes Contest and answer the most burning questions live! Don't miss it 4PM UTC on Twitch!" What? Good lord, this is written so badly I barely know what it means....parts are just lost...like, "we push MM with tankers from the chat"...what? Come on you guys are making money, hire a proof reader or at least get someone that can speak English to write your news releases...this looks like it got translated by Google Translate. If you can't afford a proof reader, I would proof you stuff for crystals...geez. Can anyone decipher this? I did get that there is a live stream today at 4PM on Twitch and they intend to start a new round of the Codes Contest and answer some questions but the rest of this is just, well, jibberish.
  22. Well, for me you have already renamed it...it will live on as OverDose. So funny :)

  24. I just stumbled onto this short portion of Johnny Clegg's "Cruel Crazy Beautiful World"...It's at the start of this video and runs to about 1:35. J. Clegg is in my all time favorite top 20 bands/muscians. I really wanted to post some of his stuff before, but on YouTube and even on Soundcloud all the tunes are compressed into low fidelity crap. 99.9% of all his tunes are great, but this is one of the best...I love the lyrics...and this clip sounds decent! Clegg has a really nasty cancer right now and probably won't see 2019. When he passes, the media will probably finally give him more of the credit he deserves and his catalog will be re-issued and repackaged. YouTube will probably get some decent uploads. The guy is a giant in so many regards..music, philanthropy, philosophy, anthropology, politically, poetically, and a badass Zulu rocker. Johnny Clegg seems to be a strong family man type of person and the second part of this video is with his kid Jesse. Jesse Clegg is also a muscian but not really following the path of his dad...Jesse's music is way more mainstream and as such, is kind of lost in the millions of good artists out there. The best rock and roll story I ever heard is about Johnny Clegg and one of his concerts. If anyone cares, I will write it up and post it. In the mean time, listen and I hope you enjoy this:
