    Let's Discuss Vulcan!

I bought the rapid-spin up alt just because it will be months and months before I rank high enough to buy new equipment. I also had an idea it might maybe be more useful in the new module system, Before the conversion I had 5 triple modules all with Fire and two other turrets. So I could take Fire, Rico, Twins, or Fire Rail, Thunder. The fire was for vulcan overheating and the other two for the worst enemies that game. But now we can pick and choose. So I thought maybe the spin-up alt would allow me to not use the Fire module. I could use a 3rd anti-enemy module instead. I've tried it with my Wasp. It does spinning up fast but the overheating protection is not that noticeable. I haven't learned to use it to best effect but so far the assumtions seem to match the facts: The 26^ loss of damage is more of a negative than the faster spin up and firing times. Longer firing times do not help me as much as killing the enemy before he kills me. THis thing seems as I suspecte. It is for the static heavy hull vulcan sitting on the base.

    Let's Discuss Striker!

Practice driving at speed and shooting to the side at a fixed target like a tree or something. This is a way to practice when there's no enemy tank to srve as a target. Realize when you are moving forward your nose tips up slightly so you will shoot high. So wen shooting learn to take your finger off te forward key for a moment as you shoot. In reverse the nose tips down. This is often good. You can reverse to shoot at a lower elevation or just to shoot at the enemy treads. Remember: Do don't have to hit just come close. Use recon-by-fire. Is there an enemy around the corner? Shoot a wall and let splash tell you. Fill the air with missiles. Salvoes are harder to do but try them and get a feel for wen to use them. It can be used in shorter rage situations too. Advanced tip: Let;'s say you're turret is tuerned a bit to one side. YOu fire a single and hit the enemy from teh right tune. You do not move hull or turret. The left tube fires. he missile misses to the rear of the enemy. Solution? <ot new players turn the turret to re-aim left and riight turrets.THis does work and you should learn to do it. But often it is easier anre more reliable to just back up. Launch right: hit. Back up. Launch left: Hit. Move forward: Launch right: Hi. Back up ....etc.

People are ascribing evey ill they can conceive to MM. But most of these issues existed before MM came along. People act like MM was a promise every CTF game would end 7-6 or every TDM game 100-99. MM did not promise that. MM is just a way to get games started more efficiently that before. TO sold the anti-mult feature hard. But what is a mult as Tani-S asked? There's no way MM makes bad players turn good. Running into dismal players is not a new thing. MM cannot create an 8v8 game with everyone w/in 2-3 ranks if there are not 16 players available. But guess what? You wouldn't be playing then under the old system either. This way you can play for awhile and see how it goes. Higher ranks can be beat. I have been playing TO for two years now. One ting has been consistent every single day: Players cnnot be trusted to select the maps for all games played. Two years have proven the more players determine which maps/modes are in play, the greater proportion of games played wil be on a preposterously small number of maps and modes. You all know the drill: 67 games of Poly CP. Look at the Pro section today. Sandbox and Island and Hill, oh my! Before MM the basic games would be started randomly. Then each end every day the shaft players would find and join the Highways games. My mid-day there would be Highways, Brest, and Silence games open every single day because the payers who will only "play on maps that suit my equipment and playstyle" keep them open all day long. Mid-fielders and attackers were faced with another game of "dodge the snipers nope try again" or avoiding those maps. MM needs to improve some of its performance issues. It should stop re-populating on-gong battles a bit sooner. It should probably start two 4v4 games at times instead of one 8x8 game with a wide rank spread. Most importantly and lag impacts the system is having need be reduced asap. But MM should remain. Here's the cold reality MU your gear or die. If you know MM might send Major You off to fight Marshal Him, then make sure your m2 gear is at 10/10. The fact is m2_10/10 gear wiil let you compete in a game that has some m3+ gear in it. Yes they have an advantage but it is not so great they cannot be killed. The game will be harder so learn how to play under the new system/ The players who do will get better and find better skilled opponents.

And I do not see these things you claim happen. I am not "constantly" being thrown into two minute battles. I am not constanntly thrown into the losing side. Yeah the reward system change was a major improvement but it is not part of MM. If you d o not wish to play in MM then don't. But just say that. No one will play a game they do not want to play. But MM has improved many weak points in the old system at teh cost of selecting the specific map. Which, to me, was a weak point itself. I do not "see" your opinions because I have differnt opoinions. I do not okk back on the old system and say" Wow wat that ever great". The previous system reeked.

    Let's Discuss Match Making...with poll

DHorter waits overall that before Loos of map choice is indeed true. Previous system offered 10x as many losing games losing teams to jon as MM. Previous system offered just as many games with ranks above you you could just avoid them now you have to learn how to get better. I have no idea what long waits in of hours is supposed to mean, Same maps same modes as before MM but now this is monononus. Even thoiuugh before players would play on fewer maps and modes (eg Shaft on Highways all day). Loss of team spirit is something you made up. Same chat windown as you had before MM. I almost always am in a game witn 8v8 imbalanced team numbers is better under MM. Battle to queue or batte to battle list no real difference. Lots more ugly aspects = my imagination rn dry I cannot think of more ways to invent complaints/ -------- MM is not perfect bu it has to be compared to the system it replaces. MM cannot finn an 8v8 game all with WO5 tanks if there are only 4 WO5 tanks looking to play at that momnent. That is the same under M or under the battle list. MM loses the ability to chose maps. In all other measure is ti the same or bettere than the previouys system.

    Let's Discuss Smoky!

Maybe against a foe that stops moving when it is shooting and at closer ranges. With Smoky you can target the very front of an enemy crossing a bridge on the other side of the map. Every so often they drive off the edge. Yep. Neither distance, DD, nor modules reduce impact force.
  7. LittleWillie

    Let's Discuss Smoky!

Yeah but teh otehr three ar IIRC Rail, Hammer, and Striker. Magnum might be bigger too but impact is not what you are worrying about. Rail is slower but really knocks you/ Hammer also really knocks you but you hav to be close generally. And it is slower. Striker shoots slower too but mostly it does not have the fine control to aim at specific parts of the enemy. Rico and Twins shoot faster with less but still significant impact, but they generally cannot aim for specifc parts of the enemy. Thunder has a bigger impact (non-alt values) and can aim but is slower. Smoky combines large impact with rapid fire with accuracy. Overall it is probably the best impact-based turret.
  8. Teamwork at your level has always been "iffy". But that does not mean MM is the reason. This picture you paint (OP) of staunch team that all vanished with MM does not match my experience with TO.
  9. If you are looking to find these things you will see them. I see great team work and I see bad team work every day. That has not changed with MM. W

    Matchmaking is coming May 29th

RIDDLER won the internet today. lol So far as encountering groups all the time MM is supposed to match groups against groups. So if there is a group on the enemy team there is a group of the same size on your team. If it works as advertised which is no sure thing. It might be nice to see a little this tank is part of a group indicator on the scoreboard. MM does prevent multing but it cannot prevent bad or inattentive players. --- MM means you cannot just pick the same scenario and play the same way over and over. It also means you better MU everything you can as high as you can, because you will be matched against higher ranks more often. So get your m2 gear to 10/10 ASAP junior officers. It is unpopular right now because it is harder. It is taking players out of their comfort zone. But players who stick withit will improve their skills. Doing the same limited thing over and over does not grow a player's skills. Look at the repetition in the Pro section day after day and tell me I am wrong about comfort zones dominating map choice.

    Drones, Batteries and Modules Update

I congratulate you on your special nature. However your play time is besides the point. This is the point. Online games are designed to constantly re-new or retain a player's interest. One way of doing this is to provide an advancement ladder so the position can grow in capability over time. In TO this is what Ranks and m-levels are for. TO has now set up a situation in which a player has to earn many many months worth of experience before they se any advancement in their game position. This is something of concern to game designers bacause... you got it ... such a long period of stagnation can lead to lower player retention I pointed that out. You chose to make that observation into a holier-than-thou moment. Bully for you. Tune in turn on drop out.
  12. This was in effect long before the module change. It just never came up much then. You are right about being treated unfairly in the conversion though. The devs were lazy in (not really bothering to) designing their conversion. mechanism. Awarding everyone some batteries would not have undermined the game economy. If anything i would have stimulated participation in the new Drone system. Batteries = Trunc { 3.3^[ log(Module cost) - 2 ] } and you'e done.

    Let's discuss Wasp!

I do well some games and other game I get pasted. :) But when you're clicking I don't think there's more fun to be had in TO. https://youtu.be/Tnod9vtB4xA

    Drones, Batteries and Modules Update

Well of course I know TO will not suddenly hand out batteries because of a few posts. t does not affect me much. I am a "winner" in the conversion. I had some redundancy but did not expect to get more than a couple - few hundred batteries. That's a fleeting thing. Going forward the buyers will have the 20/20 gear. But I will have enough to afford the 15/20 gear to blunt their advantage down into the noise level. I got noting to worry about.

Why Vulcan is the Most OP Turret

If you like Smoky on Massacre then we have much in common,. Old Massacre was the first map I felt m my home turf. As you say if you can land smoky hits on that uneven terrain while on the move you can do well. But as the nes posts point out old Massacre had some feature the new one lacks. It was unique in CTF was a one-way trip. The enemy flag was at your spawn base. So "all" you had to do was pick it up and go to the other end of the map to drop it off. So to play defense someone on your team had better be carrying the flag even if they do not try to capture it. It was a different dynamic found only on that map. Plus there was more dead rea so Smokers like us could get to a lauching point to spring the cowabunga attack on the enemy shafts. Defense was a whole different ballgame. Old map was open to rapid attack ... new map is like attacking across WW 1 no mans land. Guess that's why it has craters. Yes I wish the ridges were a bit longer... sort of like a zipper. That way the long rnaers cound'd just shoot the whole length of the valley. When I sue my shaft there 20-30 kills with 1-2 deaths is common. It is just too fish in barrel-y

    Drones, Batteries and Modules Update

Take every module. Add purchase cost and MU cost. Divide this number by the number of protections in that module. This is the cost of each single module* created from the original one. Take all these single mods and find the highest percentage for each turret and mines. Those are the permanent keepers. Take every remaining module that did not make it as a 'keeper'. Concert them one by one to batteries by the following formula: Batteries = 2 ^ [ log (module cost*) ] The lowliest m0 module with mu 0/5 would be worth 2^3= 8 Batteries ... a 2400 Cry value for 1000 Cry; very generous The highest m3 15/15 triple module would return about 125 Batteries ... a 37.5k value for 700k spent. Not much of a deal but something. Someone converting several modules would still end up with over a thousand LGY modules have variable protections so they'd have to be divided a bit differently. The basic equation shown can be tweaked to target the results as desired. I just wanted to make the point that it'd be easy to craft a payback equasion that gave everyone at least a token payback but did not swamp the big buyers with so many batteries they'd never have to buy another. But that'd have taken 20 minutes or so and another 10 to cross check it. I spent that time typing and killing typos. ====edit==== Batteries = 4 ^ [ log(module cost*) -2 ] is nicer. Lowest cost (1k) single m0 module => 4 Batteries = 1200 Cry Highest cost (700k) m3 20/20 triple module => 320 batteries = just under 100k Cry

    Drones, Batteries and Modules Update

This is a false choice: I never suggested TO could have made everyone happy. I am suggesting it'd be possible to make more people happier than what happened. Your points made above are valid but they do not cover the entire spectrum of concern. I have two accounts one rank apart in the two situations so I know exactly what the differences are. I know how much my low-protection guy will have to spend to get what the account one rank above already owns. (2.5 million is the answer). So no, I do not see my lower rank catching up to my higher rank in terms of protection. But that sort of this was not my concern. What I am talking about is pure economics. I have one account that owned 5 triple m2 modules and the mine all at 35%. That is very little redundant coverage "wasted". That account now owns modules (in the current system) worth about 2.6x moe than what I padi for it. I got new items at the old prices. Compare me to some schmuck who had 13 triple modules and another half dozen legacy modules. They too now own all 14 protections at the highest level they had previously. But they get noting more than me who just barelky cleared the wire. Why? Because these players are getting the new equipment but are forced to pay the new prices retroactively. Why does this matter? Because if the schmuck above had spent his Cry differntly he would NOT pay the prices retroactively. If our schmuck had bought just enough modules for coverage, like my account did, that would have left him with millions of Cry to invest instead in hulls and turrets and mu them. This is sort of like claiming players have to be clairvoyant to play. "Well, you should have known prices woulr triple two years from now. If you spent that Cry on hulls instead we'd let you keep your investments". You cannot tell me it is impossible to think up a system that does not have such lopsided effects frok player to player.
  18. True enough. But at the same time TO was kind enough to bestow upon me a 3.9 million Cry cost just to mu the modules I already owned. Plus I went ahead with my long time hope to afford a Titan when I hit Marshal. For the cost of adding+1% to three modules I bought a new hull and added 5 mu steps to it instead. Titan/Smoky is like taking down Mongo. Bring along at least two horses. I didn't have 20k left to spend on a drone much less mu it. Anf I burned through al my War container backlog too... at least 30 on LW plus the 4 I got from my 1at week 10 chain, LW is out of containers for the first time in a long time.

    Appreciation of New Updates

The new flexible module system is better. But the conversion was a horrible mess with random big winners and big losers. A good converstion would have treated all accounts in a similar fashion. The MM system has done what I hoped at least so far. I have rarely had the luxury of choosing a favorite map. I have always had to take whatever on-blowout game was open to me anyhow. Now I do the same thing but easier and quicker. That being said there are obvious ways the MM system can be improved. That is to be expected in a new system. I agree with the need for more maps. But TO will tll us they need to re-design any additional maps for the MM requirements. But OTOH the pro section almost NEVER has as many maps active as the basic section. On pro the same half-dozen maps dominate each and ecery day, If there is so much craving for more maps, why do 85% of all maps go un-played in the pro section?

    Drones, Batteries and Modules Update

Yes that was another LGC owner concern and on that score I agree 100%. A little brainstorming would have created a formula that gave everyone some return on that investment. Some accounts made out like tieves in teh conversion. Other accounts wee robbed. That is not the sign of a good system.
  22. At full MU the mechanic give a 1500 HP instant heal. Which for light hulls is a substantial [portion of the whole. So I see a slight increase in value for light hulls. For non-buyer budgets the first 4 - 8 MU steps are not very expensive. It is not very expensive compared to the cost of MUing a module arsenal. Doing so will give your drone 60%-70% the functionality of a full 20/20 drone. So even budget players can get some use outof their mission batteries. I am not sure these 1st 3 drones are the best bargain buy, however. They were not on sale so I put my Cry into things which were on sale. So no drone for me yet. But missions containers did give me some test batteries at least. Map RK boxes ... but mostly ... yeah.

Played an ASL game on Highland (of all things) where Blue came from behinds like 95-80 to win 100-95. Yesterday played a CTF game on Osa where the foe came back down 1-2 with about 2 minutes to go to win 3-2 on a cap with 0.4 seconds remaining. Had to tip the cap to them. I just want to find a battle. For two years now I have had to find a battle any battle on any map in any mode that was worth playing. Now I do not have to do the same ting manually. And now all the 2v2 or 3v3 games are merged into one full game. So for ME I get MORE game selection with less manual tedium. Remember the "good old days" of having to click on EN1, then EN2, then EN3, then before long you were looking in the RU and DE servers ... all with manual clicks and re-load bars, Re-load delay ... no games here... re-load delay.. nope ... re-load, re-load, re-load, re-load... But MM makes you wait more .... not for me. I am pretty sure this is incorrect. I have made kills like that and got like 1 point for it. The tank doing 99% damage will get like 14 points. It is probably the situation where in all of TO there were about 16-20 players your rank range looking to play that mode. So the MM grabbed the same players more or less and set up a 2nd game. I had that happen to me the other night. Same pair of blue viking ricos on the enemy two games in a row. Already had rico protections loaded sooooo
