Instead of deleting what we don't need, why not just create a Storage Bin so we can clear items we don't use from the garage and then just retrieve those items when we do need them? Have a button [storage Bin] for individual equipment in the garage. Clicking on this button will put the item in storage. Then add a [storage Bin] button where you have "Turrets, Hulls, etc." and clicking on this will take you to your storage bin. From there, you can view items you have stored. Clicking on an individual item will activate the "Return Item To Garage" button. Click on this button and it will place the item back in your garage for use. Or something like that. The is no deleting items, just hiding/placed in storage, out of the way.

Are you using the M1 alteration? Maybe the "compactness" caused by the alteration narrowing the cone of attack and making you miss a "flatter" target? That is all I could think of. If you aren't using the M1 alteration, my apologies for wasting your time.
