If you want to get rid of a large portion of hackers on most maps, just auto-ban anyone that grabs and captures the flag between each base in less than a second. How hard is that? It is the most simple developer solution, and somehow they think that creating some "algorithm" is a better idea? I don't understand why the first layer of defense has to be so damn complicated. The most elegant solutions are simple as can be. If you want to get more complicated, then get a sample of the average time it takes to get from base to base unencumbered on each map with hornet M3, cut a couple of seconds off that and there you go. Oh, and bring on more mods with in-game boot privileges only, compile their boot lists and ban the whole lot at the end of each day. Once the problem is curbed revoke in-game boot privileges and go back to whatever shell mod staff you want.

Maybe nobody read how this thing works it is a batch process. It is a daily database sweep where they run it against normal crystal & XP gains of users prior to the cheat epidemic. By doubling it they almost guarantee that nobody that does not hack will be targeted. You have to wait until the end of each day for it to identify the cheaters. As they created more accounts they will be targeted every time they hack, eventually giving up. This is not an immediate solution, it is a war of attrition on the hacker side. Once they see that they can't keep doing it without removal on each days batch sweep, they will either go away or be griefers. So you will continue to see hackers for a while until they give up or read the forum posts.

Play it with whatever entertains you. What entertains me is Rico because it actually has a pretty steep learning curve and keeps you interested. Rico is like a scalpel a precision instrument that can knife through the opposition, thunder is like giant mallet hold down the space bar and enjoy the boredom every 2.25 seconds.

Here is your answer Kool. There is the Now Model & Future Model because there are somethings that can immediately impact the game and others that will require developer time and resources that won't fix our problems any time soon. Now #1: increase moderators until hacking subsides or until items 2, 3 and 4 are implemented, then go back to pre-war moderator numbers. Essentially like the reserves for armies. You call them up to fight when necessary. Tanki is losing users and until 4.5.12 had not addressed the issue publically. Even then it was just them telling us that they are devoting 100% of their resources to fixing the issue. Unfortunately that takes time, and there are no guarantees that their solutions won't be hacked again. Easiest and most immediate fix is to give quite a few volunteer players the ability to moderate in-game play and remove hackers. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- Future #2: Work on an Anti-cheat engine that has some value #3: Create some sort of in-game user direct to on-line moderator reporting system and a kibitzing model like Monkey proposed to get mods into games quickly to fix the issues. #4: Create some sort of roll back capability for moderators so they can return the game to where it was pre-hacking.

I am just amazed that there can be 5 pages of discussion on this topic.

That doesn't answer his question, but I would guess about 11 to 15m AoE, maybe less. You can sit on the bottom of the ramp on the main platform on silence without worrying about Thunder AoE from people popping out into its LoS. Not sure if anyone has tested it, but the easiest way to find out would be to put an isidia at maximum engagement range next to another tank (15m) and have a thunder shoot head on at the other tank and see if there is any damage.

What? At least make some sense. Being a moderator does not make one responsible, it just gives someone something to be responsible for, just like if you own a cat or a dog. It also doesn't mean that they are right 100% of the time, which in this case he isn't. Talking down to another individual or individuals because he is a moderator is more of an abuse of power, and less being responsible and respectful. As a voluntary ambassador of this site, you would think that would be a critical component when selecting moderators. This is not the first time Kool has decided to attack a user inappropriately in this forum. He also has a nasty habit of trolling specific individuals, which in my book is behavior that is rather unbecoming for a mod. If you feel the need to follow blindly and believe that because he is a moderator that he is responsible that is fine. As for the anti-cheat, it is still a failure.

Skype has nothing to do with maturity, it is non-sequiter.
-
Well that has nothing to do with arrogance Koolwalky, that is personal privacy. There is a significant difference, and people that are mature can understand that, and when people value their personal privacy and are very clear about it, the last thing a child such as yourself should do is devalue it by calling the other individual arrogant. My personal life i none of your business, including my skype name etc. I have a life outside of tanki, and my request was that you respect that because of specific instances just like this. Children are not responsible and can not hold information in confidence and the proof is right here in black in white courtesy of yourself. as a courtesy I went back and reviewed the application I submitted to you, and there is absolutely nothing in that application that could justify you calling me arrogant. It was simple and to the point with a clear request for you to respect my privacy and anonymity. Something which you just violated because as I sad above, children can not be trusted. Extremely poor choice of words showing a clear lack of maturity and tact. I think you need to grow up also.
-
If you think that me advising you that you lack maturity is an insult, then I hope nobody ever truly insults you. -Good luck!

I don't think allowing hackers to stay in a game is the right model at all. Once identified as a hacker they should be completely removed from the game and an IP ban placed on their account(s). While they can go through a proxy server, or change their IP, it does make it more of a pain to keep hacking and getting removed. Hand slap bans only work for the period in which they are in effect.
-
I value my personal privacy also. This is a major issue with the Skype requirement.
-
The fact is skitee, that you are completely wrong. If you wish to preview my record on this site then that is fine. I have a total of maybe one or two 5 minute bans on this site, and none of my content has ever been removed or moderated in the forum. One of those bans was from a flood which I did not intend to happen. My complaints with that site are a non-issue here as inconsistency and hypocrisy are mainstays on their site. Some people are grown up enough to silo themselves from one relationship to another and not let it cross over. For example, I can be frustrated with an individual like you that lacks maturity and the capability to understand how adults act, but I don't let that influence how I speak to other people in this site that have proven to be more mature and capable of having adult conversations. The truth is Skitee, is that if I operated underneath another nick, or if you had no previous relationship with me on a prior site, you would never be able to tie both of those items together because of my spotless record in here. People can obey and enforce rules when they want to, and while I understand that you have struggled with this in the past making statements about cheating inside this very forum, others can be grown up enough to act responsible when required, or challenge policies as they see fit without it effecting them in other areas. When you grow up to be a big boy, you will understand that.
-
Stirring the pot is accurate Monkey. Skitee, the internet is an anonymous place and those are two disparate sites. My behavior over there has absolutely no bearing on my behavior over here. My track record on this site is near spotless. You need to grow up.

Monkey, Communication can take many forms. Skype is just one, and based on what I have seen not required to be effective at a this job. Simple documentation would suffice, and the forum's PM tool are more than enough. The gripe is that it is unnecessary.

6 =/= 76. There are currently more servers than moderators? The math stinks. You would think the wizards that invented this game would understand the need for eyes in the game to prevent cheats / hacks. Especially when there are large break outs of an exploit. Right now the solutions is an ineffective cheat engine that has caused game play issues. Wouldn't it just be easier to have 3 people assigned to each server and start a massive eradication project each time this happens? Answer = yes It is also cheaper as your currency is in-game credit, NOT a salary for a developer to fix the issue. Your total cost per hour probably will float under $1 USD per hour per person, vs. a salary that costs you around $40USD an hour to make a cheat engine work. It is like nobody has any business sense inside of tanki. So three guys at $40USD/hr = $120 / hr for a Cheat engine that doesn't work and a downgrade in availability and performance for paying customers 75 moderators @ >$1USD/hr = $75 / hr for people to come on and eradicate the issue systematically. Guys, it is not that hard. Business case made.

The resolution is more moderators. Quite frankly the requisites to become a moderator are far too stringent. For example, I don't use skype. I don't like it on my machine when I have any other compute intensive applications on my machine. I use ventrilo if I want to chat with other players in other games. So I am disqualified. At some point someone needs to get realistic about the problem and the resolution. I hang out on different servers all the time, and log some time in this game because it is the only one I play right now. I am pretty good about sticking the rules of the game, yet I can't even get a sniff at a moderator position? Seriously, at some point someone needs to realize that anti-cheat engines are only going to catch already recognized exploits in the system. I would say a good rule of Thumb is 3 moderators per server per language. That would make the number of moderators required just for the English speaking group around 75. Right now there are 3 maybe 4. Seriously? Anyone with half a bit of common sense can figure out a resolution to the problem, add more chat and in-game moderators. The answer can't be any more clear.
