There's an error in the math we are studdying

A: has 250

B: has 250

C: wants 500 so he takes 250 from A and B

A & B now has 0.

C has 500

He buys something cost him 450.

C money= 500-450= 50.

C has 50.

C gives A: B 10 each.

A: has 10

B: has 10

C: has 30

so Technically A and B needs 240 X 2 = 480$ left for full amount return from C

C has 30 only

480 + 30= 510!

and the amount is 500

where that extra 10 come from ? :D

There is technically no extra 10 dollars.

Here is a chart proving the steps:

A B C Other Total

1 250 250 0 0 500

2 0 0 500 0 500

3 0 0 50 450 500

4 10 10 30 450 500

5 10+240 10+240 30-(2)15 450-2(225) 500

There is technically no extra 10. The question was made to confuse those that the 10 came out of nowhere, but the calculations in the last couple of steps ignored completely the money used to buy what C needed.

Look here for a simpler explanation. First let me say the question you are asking is a result of fallacy and completely irrelevant. There is no

need to add up the numbers you did at the end, as they had been tampered with. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Missing_dollar_riddle

Just think of the 30 dollars as your 500 units.

Just in case you forgot..

250+250=500

500-450=50

10+10+30=50

Before returning the 10 to each A and B and keeping 30, C must see how much he owes A and B together. He owes A and B together 500 but he only has 50 after spending 450 ... if he paid them the entire 50 he would owe them 450 (total) but instead he only pays them 20 back (total). This means his total debt to them both is 470.

So if 450 is spent.... 20 is paid and 30 is kept the total comes to 500.

The math system does not have a flaw. -__-

here;s something funny but true.

a student who doesn't study hard and a real failure in college, sleeps all his classes, one day he woke up after class end's and saw two Mathematical issues, he didn't realize that the Teacher said that no one could ever solve these 2 mathematical issues, so he thought it was a homework, the dum student went home and tried to solve them and didn't return to college until after 2 weeks, and he gave the home work to his teacher, teacher said he never gave a homework, student told the teacher about the mathematical issues he found on the blackboard, the teacher were stunned for a while as he realize that his dumpiest students solved an unsolvable mathematical issues, how ever he couldn't solve the second!

True story.
