Hello English forum! Yes, after a long while, I, ForumTroller am finally back! I was on my journey to the North Pole to say hello to the Penguins! I completed it successfully and made a few new Pen Pals.

I see that there are many new people here, so welcome to the forum. You newbies still have a lot to learn.

I have created this topic so that we can discuss the current state of the forum and state our opinions on it. What do you guys think of the new, or at least, more firmly established set of rules? Personally, although some of them are alright, I was disappointed to see that trolling in Off-topic is now prohibited. It was one of my more entertaining pastimes. I may have to Journey to the South Pole now and say hello to the Polar Bears if this forum gets any more boring.

Good Luck, keep discussing, and know that I am here again!

I chose the final option. Only time will tell whether the true result will be that or the second-to-last option instead.

I don't see the point of the majority of the rules and I would love "Flaming", "Trolling", "uninformative", "popular resources", "advertising", "no meaning", "profanity" and "insulting" to be clearly defined so that we avoid the situation where all we have are ambiguous terms and a bunch of moderators just making their definition of those terms up to suit themselves. Sure, no trolling is a good rule, but it depends upon what trolling actually is. If it comes to the stage where disagreeing with a point that the OP means is also defined as trolling (which one moderator a while back decided to be so) then all this forum becomes is a "Hey, I +1 you!" station rather than an actual forum. Same applies to everything else. Definitions have to be produced.

I also find the final statement "consider whether it will be of interest to the Community" hilariously ironic.

I can see why they created these rules, but we need at least some freedom, and OTD was the only place on the forum where it was mildly enjoyable. Most of our entertainers haven't been on in a while, yes i am talking about Conta and CPF. It's Off-Topic Discussion for Gods sake...

I was disappointed to see that trolling in Off-topic is now prohibited.

Actually it has always been prohibited in all sections, not just here, there was a little exception made by kool, but it lasted only for 1 or 2 months.

Now there are new rules which have to be followed. And those who don't do it, will be punished. Simple as that.

Yes, it's the OT section. But it's not created for breaking rules. Have a look at the Russian one to see what it is for.

Basically these are the same rules used in off-topic section of russian tanki online forum. And they are not that different from general rules of the forum.

The idea of it is not to limit players in any way but to make the off-topic section more pleasant place and to prevent any kinds of racist discussions, etc.

As for definitions, share you ideas here.

An exception which I was unaware had been retracted.

Well, what I do should not be considered trolling. I think you could classify it as light-hearted joking, or sometimes even constructive criticism. You can see one example of my method here in this topic. Penguins in fact do not live at the North Pole, and Polar Bears do not actually live at the South Pole. This is an example of light-hearted joking, something which only gives entertainment. I don't think that anyone should be banned for such.

The fact that you have to post usefull things here, still limits you.

Discussions always contain some meaningless posts; that's exactly why it's a discussion.

You can't always act like a robot here.

Funny conversations also excist; that's what I like about this section.

If you punish everyone with this rule, the off-topic section will not be that popular anymore.

People will starting to doubt about when they decide to post, or not... most of it will not result in a post at all.

Discussions will dry out, I've seen this before.

I understand that you want to terminate trolling, but trolling excist of many things.

If you want to get rid of this all; you will also terminate friendly trolling, jokes... eventually meaningless post.

Post that contain profanity should be against the rules

Together with spam/flood, and unfriendly trolling, those are the only things that should be forbidden in this section.

If you add more rules to these, the discussions will be boring and short.

People will starting to doubt about when they decide to post, or not... most of it will not result in a post at all.

Kinda good because at the moment 90% of the topics here are made by noob trolls and the section is mostly visited by them.

Post that contain profanity should be against the rules

Together with spam/flood, and unfriendly trolling, those are the only things that should be forbidden in this section.

Meaning racism is ok? Sex stuff is ok? Ideas are okay, while we repeated billions of times that nobody will see them here? Creating dumb topics like 'hi', or 'good night' are ok? Creating topics that have already been created/discussed is ok?

I understand your pain. I don't want to lose the section either. But I do want to lose the trolls.

I don't get why you think anything has changed. Why do you all think that something is different? Till today, the section didn't have any rules, which meant ALL the Forum Rules were applying here. Those Section Rules that came today - this is not anything new, it's just a mix of the most important stuff from the Forum Rules. All the Forum Rules still apply here, just like before. The Section Rules just comply the most important so lazy people can read atleast some of them and this way avoid some bans.

Everything is the same. The new thing is just the new pinned topic which is named Off-topic rules. Everything else is the same.

But well, if we get more Chat Mods who can keep watching the section every day and ban the violators - then the situation will be different and worse for the trolls/violators.

But for now, the Mods are the same so there is really nothing new. But that does not mean you can break the Rules. You may not get banned today, or tomorrow. But you will be banned, you can't avoid it. Just be good and you trolls, stop the nonsense. Try doing something entertaining, like Cheap's videos and topics. Don't create dumb topics.

Good luck

hi

Hi, how are you?

Towards this topic, I believe that people who abuse rules are hardly ever punished (kilaz is a perfect example).

Yes, it's the OT section. But it's not created for breaking rules. Have a look at the Russian one to see what it is for.

That Russian section looks like the most boring thing ever... Tanki needs customers. Customers, such as me, are appealed to by having a fun forum. Not one where every little thing is punished "just cause". Each rule should have a purpose to making the forum more generally enjoyable for the majority of people. :|

And @ your second post: You put trolls and violaters in the same category. Why is trolling banned? It's bad business and organisation policy for things to be banned unless there is a clear reason for it.

-We don't want to be the same as the Russian forum. We are a generally younger community. We are generally more laid back and less into the game than the Russian community (just a few generalized statements, I know they aren't completely accurate)

-This is off-topic discussion, it's not meant to abide by the general rules of the forum.

-If you don't want racist discussions, then why not ban racism and allow everything else?

-If you ask the majority of the active Off-Topic-Discussion community, their favourite period was when Contaminated, kilaz, cheap_plastic_flower and other similar trolls were actively contributing to the forum - which coincides with the peak of what is widely considered trolling. The ban on trolling is clearly not intended for the general good of the community, then.

-So definitions? You want us to create the definitions for your rules? You create the rules but someone else defines them? Seems a bit lame. But if you want:

Flaming: Having an argument in the forums which gets too heated and becomes a means of insulting rather than trying to continue a reasonable discussion.

Trolling: Going into a thread with no purpose except for derailing it due to a personal dislike of the OP/out of a plain sense of gratifying humour.

Uninformative: Something which does not describe the content.

Popular resource: A website which at least a few people use to get information (I don't believe this rule should apply).

Advertising: Posting with the sole intention of forwarding a certain website/business with the purpose of making money or another form of currency, whether virtual or actual, from it.

No meaning: A post containing one or two letters or numbers and being completely unintelligible

Profanity: All words on the top result when "list of profanity" is searched on google.

Insulting: Something which the moderators unanimously agree causes offence to the person it is aimed at.

^Those are my definitions in the context of the rules.

I guess you don't know Russian, that's the reason it seems boring for you. Trust me, it's much better than ours.

-This is off-topic discussion, it's not meant to abide by the general rules of the forum.

It's Off-topic, not Off-forum. As long as it's in this forum, all the forum rules apply in it.

-If you don't want racist discussions, then why not ban racism

Why do you think it doesn't get banned? Yes, Mods are inactive most of the time, but still, they do ban, no matter if you see it, or not.

I meant,

Just the feeling, that you can get banned just because you're in the middle of the conversation will stop people from posting/being active here.

There are always some meaningless posts in discussions... as it is a 'discussion'
