How to really speed up Tanki Online (Laptops and older computers)

Recommended Posts

There are a lot of topics out there that brandish the name "How to speed up Tanki Online"... This one works, unlike the many others which don't

Well I, being a user of a slightly less than new computer (*cough* 10 years old) find that tanki online is a quite a demanding game for my old and beat up PC, so I check out the vids and topics on how to speed it up... some have worked and others don't, I tend to find more of the latter.

So I decided to make this, to help the older computers (And laptops) play tanki at 40-50fps*

*Results can vary from the speed of internet down to what internet you use and how old is the processor/GPU

Tip 1) Go into full screen mode

A lot of people don't know that when you open your browser, if you press F11 it will go into full screen mode. And what they really dont know is that if you use this it makes your computer focus on only the browser, enhancing the experience.

FPS Gain: 10-20FPS

Tip 2) Clear history

I know what your thinking "I dont want to delete my cookies!" well i was like that to, if you really dont want to do that then follow the next step

FPS Gain: 1-3 (depending on how much you delete)

Tip 3) Get a new browser

Belive me, this is the best way to speed it up along with step 1. I always used chrome, it was fast and fluid. But it played tanki online at 15-17 FPS, it was clogged with cookies and auto fill forms that i would be afraid to delete in case i forget a password... but only yesterday did i download IE9, it played tanki at 30-35FPS without step one and then with step 1 35-40. It really makes a difference  just use that browser to play tanki online or to watch youtube vids (Both will be exceptionally faster than your current broswer). I recommend the following

If you currently use IE9, then download Google Chrome, it has a nice interface and plays games very well.

If you currently use Google Chrome, Download IE9, it's a lot more modern than the old IE's, and it's fluid and has a comfy interface.

FPS Gain: 15-30

Tip 4) Don't go all out with the graphics!

I love the dynamic shadow feature on Tanki, it makes it look beautiful and life like... but as i said earlier, my computer is old. so if i enable it, i go from playing at 40-50FPS, to 10-20 FPS (and thats not including deep shadows and dust particles!), so turn off dynamic shadows, if you really hate not having shadows, turn on the shadow under tank option.

FPS Gain: Varies on GPU and the following

No Dynamic Shadows: 10-20 *varies on GPU

No Particles: 1-5 *varies on GPU

No Mip-Mapping: 1-5 *varies on GPU

No Skybox: 2-5

Tip 5) Increase Cache and Make it one smaller

A very simple and effective method known and proved by many tankist, right click and drag the arrow to the very right. Press - when in a battle to make the screen smaller by a small bit

FPS Gain: 1-7

Tip 5) Close all Tabs

Its as simple as the title says it is. close all other tabs in browser

FPS Gain: 1-5 *Depending on tabs open

Tip 6) Get as much bars as possible

This really only occurs on laptops, usually you plug a ethernet cable into a computer, giving it full connection bars. But if your on a laptop, then play in the same room as your router. it really helps

FPS Gain: 5-7

Overall FPS Gain

Maximum FPS after doing all tips: 40-50FPS*

Average FPS after doing all tips: 25-35FPS

Minimum FPS after doing all tips: 15-20 FPS

*The reason it is not like 60-80FPS if because all of the tips together would not boost the FPS by that much, each of the tips separately give the stated FPS gain. when put all together, the gain become more even.

My Personal FPS boost was from 9-19 FPS to 30-50 FPS (50 only when no one else is using the internet in my house)

If you did not know how to press f11.....Oh boy... lol

Lol, I know how to press f11 key. I mean it doesn't work when pressing f11 while you are on TO server but now I figured out how to go full screen for server page.

F11 no work!!

If using chrome: Open any tab on browser then press f11, then press ctrl tab to go next tab page till you are on TO server with full screen.

My experience:

1st is used to play on GC, then i was getting too much lags fps only 5-10, i did everything i could do but no change.

then i switched to IE9 it was better than GC but still it worked fine for 2-3 days and i was getting lags again.

And here comes the turn, I switched to Flash Player, i had 50-60 FPS  without the shadows

I thought i should try with shadows, i turned on the dynamic shadows and shadows under tank also the soft particles, FPS was 25-30

Conclusion:

Flash player, use it
