i do beleve that the earth WAS created by god for he is all mighty.  and i also believe that the first people were adime and eve we could have been in heavin if they hadent picked the apple.  but they didint pick it for a long time  (a lot longer than eany of could do)  they where not eany worse than u and me.

Its not an apple, it could have been any fruit or whatever.

Btw evidence won't change anyone's mind. Both sides can see the same evidence, but see it differently and as proof for what they themselves believe.

@Slighty: You're putting Science in Religion. Oh, since it's this, then this cannot happen, etc. That's why it doesn't make sense for you with the Adam n' Eve thing. In religion there are miracles, etc., etc. So you can't really use Science for that. . .

Just putting my thought . . . not revealing whether or not I believe in Evolution, but just giving you an explanation of why it makes sense to some people, and why it doesn't make sense to other people. Know what I mean? :P

Can you really work on your spelling a bit, it's rather hard to read...

It's not 7 billion years as the Earth was formed ~4.5 billion years ago.

Science is now the best method we have to access reality. If we can't use science to access the claim of religion(s), they are pretty much fairy tales. Science can give models of reality and improve our lives, it gives results; religion does not.

In my opinion....

If evolution is true...man was a mistake...we are and will forever be the most destructive and cruel species that walked on earth....

If evolution is not true....man is somebody's "oops...my bad" because I don't think anyone would have wanted us to become what we are now

Either ways....i wish i wasn't human....no I don't want to be a bird or an animal or whatever...I don't want to be anything

Despite the fact that I am religious, Charles Darwin's theory has a bit of evidence yet saying that we evolved from monkeys is very unlikely despite the fact that some humans do fit In monkey criteria.

By 7 billion, I believe he was referring to the Earth's human population, rather than its age ^_^

Oh, I see now. Pardon the mistake I guess then.

That's a rather depressive thought. As humans we are not a mistake, we have adapted and managed to survive. We are the 1% of the species that survived the Earths climate change. We have managed to see past our instincts and see how nature works. We learned to communicate, cooperate, defeated disease and use electricity to improve our lives. Managed to fly past the sky itself and unravel the grandness of the universe.

No, we didn't evolve from monkeys. We evolved from an ape like ancestor of all modern apes and humans.

You know, I predict that one day this Thread is going to explode in a Flame-war or something and then it'll get closed with a couple of Bans. Lol.

First off, I'm baptised in the Christian faith but I'm an atheist of 10 years and agnostic before that for some time.

I defend people's right to believe in whatever they want, whether it's a big invisible man in the sky, Santa or Celestial Teapots, just as long their beliefs don't affect me - carry on believing.

Having read the first 8 or 9 pages of this topic, here are my thoughts on Evolution in no particular order...

The Pope believes in Evolution as does the Catholic church. The current Pope, who I greatly admire and the best Pope ever by the way, believes God created life through evolution and has gone on record saying so.

While it's called a "Theory", don't confuse theory with unproven.

Darwinian Evolution is proven scientific fact due to the sheer weight of documented evidence that can back it up.

People who ask, "where is the evidence", clearly have not looked or have shut their ears and eyes to it because it conflicts with some belief or other.

Theory has 2 main meanings. Evolution is in the first, not the second.

1. "A well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world; an organized system of accepted knowledge that applies in a variety of circumstances to explain a specific set of phenomena"

2. "A tentative insight into the natural world; a concept that is not yet verified but that if true would explain certain facts or phenomena"

eg, Theory of relativity fits with example no.1. Your satnav wouldn't work properly if that wasn't true.

Lawrence Krauss has written a book, "A Universe From Nothing". Richard Dawkins: this could potentially be the most important scientific book since Darwin's Origin of Species.

How we can get something from nothing goes to the very beginnings.

Evolution hasn't stopped. We are constantly evolving as are our cousins the chimps who we share more than 98% of our dna with.

You only have to look at the genome sequencing for the proof of that.

Creationists say there are no examples of species changing, clearly have not looked hard enough. Google "Ring species" or watch Potholer54's video on youtube explaining it citing real world examples.

Entropy - a regurgitated and bogus argument when trying to disprove evolution citing the 2nd law of thermodynamics.  Funny how science is believed when it's to try and backup creation points of view. Sadly they conveniently forget to add the, "closed system", part of the argument.

Just thought I'd stick up for Goldrock... :)

edit: Forgot to say how disappointed I am with the poll results. Don't be afraid to come out - I know you want to!

or maybe the ''widely-acccepted theory which is true no matter what'' isn't so accepted as you thought?

Thanks, you've summarised the evolutionist argument extremely well ^_^

He meant widely accepted by the scientific community i.e. by those who actually understand evolution, or at least try to.

I would argue that the vast majority of those who have rejected evolution have done so without trying to understand it.

That well sums up most of the posts here. Nicely done.

or maybe the ''widely-acccepted theory which is true no matter what'' isn't so accepted as you thought?

From what I've seen here, the reason why it's not accepted is ignorance on what it is, how it functions etc.

Hi. I know it's not widely accepted amongst the theists of this world but more and more people are breaking free of their programming and seeing the light, so there is hope yet for civilisation :P  As I say, live and let live, believe what you want to believe. Our actions are what matters. Do good, make peace, denounce injustices and the most important of all - Play Tanki.
