This is happening to me I have at least 5 GB of RAM in my computer and a good internet connection but I keep getting these lag spikes . It might be a program installed that may cause these lag spikes  or the cache in you browser.   :)

Yup, definitely not related to the client computer.

I even checked it out at work (I work in a computer science lab!) corei7, 16gb RAM and a 150GB internet connection and it's terrible there too.

Tried all the tricks and tips, tried chrome, firefox and IE..... and with absolutely nothing else running - I even switched off virus scanner at one point. I was getting 5-15 fps.

I even tried a sever with less than 250 clients and it's still bad. Getting to be pretty unplayable at times.

Your own internet connection can be fine, but it could be at any point in the chain of connections between you and the tanki servers. Most commonly it depends on how well connected your ISP is. You can find out the actual ping time by using network tools like 'ping' or 'traceroute' (also known as 'tracert' on windows). Traceroute in particular will show you the ping time to every hop along the net between you and the tanki servers. The server names to ping are, for example, c1.tankionline.com for server 1, c2.tankionline.com for server 2 and so on. Try this next time you have bad lag and you may be able to find out where the problem lies.
