I recently caught a Gold Box when I was on vacation, and the pic I took of it is pretty funny. It's a 5000 from a few weeks ago, and I have M2 Hornet and M1 Thunder, but I'm telling you this because I catch the Gold and take a pic just as I explode, so the entire screen is a white flash with my name at the top. Will post pic as soon as I get it off my laptop.

 

I have five 1000s (Polygon x2, Madness, Silence, Moon Silence)

One 2000 from a Christmas event a year or two back (Silence)

One 2014 from New Year celebration (Monte Carlo)

One 5000 from Tanki's Fifth Birthday (Polygon)

Yes, it's pretty rare. But it happens in Rio, because the map is big, many spots and we were 16 in the map.

To me, a Gold that got to the ground before taken happened only once in Silence (on the ramp that is the left if you look forward from the Red Base - I mean the one that's right near the Blue Flag), and I jumped to take it but somebody else ran like hell (a Noob, I must say) and took it. Annoying!

That's what I do too. I've only had the chance to do it once, on Silence. On the large ramp to your left if you view it from the Red Team's side, a gold dropped right at the very top of it. Every other person was either sniping, oblivious to the gold right in front of their noses or on the other ramp near the main entrance to the blue zone (keep in mind this is the original Silence, where there was no third middle ramp), so I let it fall, took a screenshot that ended up who knows where, and waited until someone got the hint and almost took it. Of course, I got it, but I think I waited a bit too long.

i think they noticed fast,so i guess about 10-20 seconds

that "key player" stuff is wrong,i made 2 gold boxes fall,and they fell on the other side of the map,not where i killed or was (and being it an 1v1 since game just started i'm sure of it)

 

 

noise 2vs1,i killed the enemy on the lower part of the map and it fell on the higher

Totally wrong...in fact to be honest none of them works properly, but i found this 'key player' theory is total failure.

I have tried to learn from several different theories about where the Gold Box drops. So far the most promising one is the Key Player theory, and although it may not work every time, that's just cause it's a guess as to what happens. In my book, you only need skill, determination, and luck in order to catch a Gold Box. As promising or as not promising as a theory can be, it is, after all, just a theory. As long as you think you can catch a Gold Box, you will catch a Gold Box. That's how I see it.

I just go with my gut instinct. Many times I have been the only one in sight of Gold while everyone else is fighting at 'main' drop points.
