but virus will develop itself again and again. This can't last forever, can it?

I don't know how exactly it will go, beauty of science is that we are never sure. Remember nature has flaws too ;). No organism is perfect. Even if they develop resistance to all possible drugs we can design then we can try engineering microorganisms that will fight back the virus (this is just a theory) OR maybe one of the humans develop immunity against the virus, and so we can use that specific genetic mutation against the virus. Who knows what we might be able to do when this situation arises, 100 years ago no one imagined that we will be able to clone animals or genetically engineer mice that can glow in dark, and many more weird stuff science can do now :)

Well said :)

There is still hope for a cure and prevention.

Remember the smallpox virus oubreak? It has been "eradicated" right now with vaccines, with a few samples in laboratories.

Smallpox, however, is considered a bigger threat than both ricin and the Ebola virus for a number of reasons. [REMOVED]

Nice topic, sadly about a sad thing :(

Yea it is a sad thing to talk about.

But people must know about these deadly diseases and it could help you if you see these symptoms happening to someone then you know its Ebola.

Possible, but with current technology, it's better to not treat it.

I'm not away, even close.

And I thought a bit, and I think you were right. There can be a hope light...

Yes i think Irontank has a point it alright to say stuff when your far away for the disease. But the cure could be around the corner....

That's why technology advances, to keep a step ahead :) If a virus develops resistance, we create a medicine to overcome that step.

I understand that Ebola vaccines have been available (three of them) for a few years. At least one of them (from Glaxo-Wellcome) is 100% protective on primates.

None of them got into Phase 1 yet (i.e. safety tests on humans) because of the possible effects, and because no Drug Company would get in a hundreds million Pounds program of testing for what was, until recently, not an international priority.

With an outbreak, priorities have changed and vaccines may be tested in small clinical trials on site. Pretty sure that in less than 12 months at least one of the vaccines will be protective to humans.

But in the mean time If the correct screening/quarantine measures are put in place at airports we should be alright. A no-nonsense approach is needed.

I had this crazy idea about the cure. Now, let's take a look at the carnivores. Maybe they eat the animals like fruit bats with Ebola, but do not get the disease. Maybe those animals have a special system protecting them. If this theory or whatever you may call it is true, then they could make some sort of cure out of this. However I don't know the restrictions though :\ Not that far in science yet...

I'm sure all precautions and containment procedures are in place. Just because this is a Global Epidemic, as some have labeled it, it doesn't mean we need to flip out. After all, this is not the first major virus gone global... remember the Spanish Flu, Polio, Bubonic Plague, etc. We have the technology, and know the science (for the most part in first world countries). All we can do for now is be patient and wait for the vaccines/treatments/maybe cures, to be transferred around the world once they are found. (For those of you who are either "spooked, or a bit nervous" by the facts and info, don't be. Don't believe what you see in those pandemic movies where one day the virus is contained, and the next month, half the world is dead. We are smarter than this, we know what to do, and we will prevail... because after all, epidemics have never wiped out humanity before, and never will. There is hope.)
