As great as the song is, it annoys me that it was literally released more than a year before it went viral. It was in his original Stoney Deluxe album and was completely forgotten over tracks like Congratulations, White Iverson, De Ja Vu and Go Flex, then it suddenly goes viral a year later. Sorry, I try not to rant but I just find it frustrating when good artists go mainstream and songs go viral ages after they’re released. :D

Just to clarify - I’m not criticising you or anyone for listening to the song, it’s a great track. I just don’t like artists going mainstream. :D

well its been like that for all the years i have listened to music

im 62 years old this july and always had a real passion for good music

i still listen to what i call modern music and this track really hit me

sometimes it takes promotion of music so people can hear how good an artist is

i could list a load of artists who went mainstream and actually ruined their careers

but thats the way the music industry works im afraid

my big passion was always prog rock and punk and indie music so i know where your coming from

Yes, I totally agree that promotion is a great thing and it's fantastic that people can hear of a good artist. However, adding on to your second point, it's not necessarily about them going mainstream and ruining their careers, it's more about going mainstream and changing their style completely. They'll try to change their persona, their attitude, their lyrics, their beats, etc. to meet social expectations as they become a household name and begin to receive more criticism and press.

The main thing that annoys me is when artists try to make 'radio music.' i.e change their style of music to better suit what will make them the most money from being played on the radio, as opposed to staying true to their self and making music that their OG fans like.
