I think that shaft should have like the amount the damage it is going to give on the yellow  reload bar.

for example 

 

 

 

If this was the yellow bar

       (     64/185        )

and if you held on longer it become

         (     135/185        )

by doing this it's easier for a sniper to know the amount of damage it is giving it's enemy.

   You could also make it possible for sniper if in snip mode and cursor is pointing at an enemy could be highlight red and this would make it easier for snipers to realise enemies although this could only apply for shaft and when in sniping mode.
