[Guide] Making a Gold Box Montage

Recommended Posts

There are many ways to get your name heard in Tanki Online. Some players use the staff, some just their skills and others through the forum. But another way is through YouTube; and one of the most popular videos? The gold box montage. This is my simple guide to making one and perhaps making you famous in the process.

Step 1: Setting Up

Obviously, to make your video, you need good software and an opportunity to collect the footage. I would recommend Camtasia but most recorders (without a watermark) will do fine. Then, find a battle! After the most recent update, you can’t start recording once the notification has appeared, so you will need to have it on full time during the battle, despite the possible presence of lagging. Next, just sit and wait.

Step 2: Getting the Video

Now you need to home in on your gold catching skills. There are many guides and tips from top players so I’ll leave this bit to you guys. Try and make sure it is a pretty interesting gold, but I suppose a normal catch will do fine. As soon as you get the gold (unless two drop in a row!) finish the recording and edit it so that you’re just left with the relevant footage. If you don’t catch the gold, perhaps save the video anyway, you might just be able to make a gold box fail montage. Make sure you have quite a few videos so that you can make a good montage.

Step 3: Making the Montage

This is where you can really liven up your video. Put the clips end on end and then shorten them so that you get the best action. Then, add in a title scene and transitions between each clip. One of my top tips is not to make your title scene too long. I once watched a single gold video that was more title scene than video… It was very dull and I didn’t watch any of their other videos. Now you have an action-packed video, the final part; add some music. Generally something fast-paced which perhaps fits in with some of the video is appropriate. Then just produce and upload the video. Oh, and perhaps advertise it on the forum...

So, go out there, get some golds, and make an awesome video. You never know, you might just become the next famous YouTuber!

As a viewer, what makes a gold video good first off is it has to be at least 5-6 minutes and not just some 1-4 gold box ordeal. A good video for the most part shows the most intense parts of the catch as was stated above. A few cool video edit glitches, such as a shaky screen or stars flashing, can also help, but to much of those is more of a burden then a benefit and it may be more of a job to watch the video rather than enjoyment. Also, the music has to be good. If I had to choose the type of music to put in a video, it would be a dubstep song that isn't to well known yet sounds fitting and appropriate. NCS (NoCopyrightSounds) is a good place to look. Overly popular songs like Blank, Shine, Nova, and Hope are nice to put, but it gets pretty boring hearing the same song over and over all over Youtube. Be unique ;)

Cool. That might be difficult though. I really don't I would have the right technology to do that, though...

You just need to have a proper video taking software, that you can find from a decent search in the internet, then you just need to download a proper video editing software, which too you can find from a decent source in the Internet.
