Do we really need the Olympic Games?

Even the German Fuhrer, who undertook one of the greatest economic reform that I know of, who provided jobs and homes for millions of people of his country, endorsed the Olympics and spent a good deal of money on it.

At least he helped them.

Thats what I meant. It's not necessary to target Olympics. Even hosting the Olympics can be managed along with economic growth in a country.

I wrote about the games as an example. See the first post, I said "Governments spend too much money on the Olympic games every time, but only with the half of that money, 40.000 tiny houses can be built, to avoid homeless people freezing and dying on cold winter days."

But government can't do that because people who pay taxes want their money to be spent on Olympics rather than giving shelter to homeless.

Simply giving away homes won't solve the problem. We'll have to deal with the root of the situation which might be lack of qualifications, few job openings etc. Well, consider the above as a bullet wound. You can cover up the opening with bandages and sew the skin together and throughout time the wound heals and removes most traces. But the bullet still remains which later would infect the body and cause bigger issues. Similarly donating homes isn't the real solution but simply a sort of cover up.

As I told you before, the ultimate solution for homelessness is to teach homeless people how to work, so they will be able to stand on their own feet. For example, the government can teach a homeless person how to drive and lend him some money to buy a car. So, he works as a taxi driver, and then pays the money back to the government.

Yeah, exactly what I meant. I don't see the point of your post.

I posted it to say that it would be better to invest the money on homeless people, rather that stupidly huge Olympic stadiums.

I think the olympic games are great. The costs include things like over time for police, who then pay tax on there earnings you need to take all this into account. Also the london olympic stadium is going to be used for the world athletics championship in 2017 and also used as a football stadium, so this will bring in more tourists, more revenue and create more jobs.

well, jokersus, when i was like in grade 9 or in 8, i think the same, coz every rich and moderate people can afford a house but poor cant, (even worse in pakistan, where i live) i always think about that why countries host these type of events, why dont govt. pays attention to those people, why dont govt. give welfare to poor ones.

but now when i am now in 12th grade, more matured, more complex thinker, well as, example, a country hosts a big event, ok t cost millions and billions of dollars, ok , it makes a country more popular, more visitors, means more revenue generated. another one, if a govt. encourages and works on natural beauty to make it more beautiful, it will attract more visitors and tourists, means more money ok. on t he other hand its simple  that if govt. gives 250 or 500 dollars to a single family, there are thousands of homless, if this happens the govt. treasury will be out of order, and you know what? it wont generate revenue after. poor will make home, ok, eat food for a month or for 2 years, then what? nothing! this wont push a country from this situation. in the above eg. more visitors, more revenue and more tourists in future too! it wont end unless there is restrictio0ns from govt.

theo nly solution is: give one time money to poors, and teach them, how to work, how to communicate, how to earn. :)

thats all, i hope you had understand.
