Rebalancing Maps/Map Score Multiplier

Recommended Posts

Is anyone monitoring how popular maps are? I bet there is, but are they paying the right amount of attention and consideration to that?

There is a lot more you can do than creating a new map and removing an old map every once in a while.

You need to know why certain maps are popular and certain maps are not, and try to make them almost as popular.

I will give you an example.

Let's take Monte Carlo. It is an ideal road-trip map. You get to drive your tank silly, especially for CTF and CP, but alas you don't get any exp points or crystals for it.

I usually join Monte Carlo if I need 20 more crystals and I find a battle that has room and has about 5 minutes remaining. I may not even be able to earn 20 crystals there in 5 minutes. I usually earn 200-300 crystals in 5 minutes elsewhere.

Do you think I'd rather earn 15-20 crystals in 5 minutes or 200-300 crystals?

Should not you analyze the different maps and make them almost equally appealing by maybe giving each map a score/battle fund multiplication factor? That way Monte Carlo or Dusseldorf, etc, where I would drive 10 miles to find a flag or an enemy becomes as appealing as say Polygon where I hardly need to drive?

What do you all think?

Big maps like Monte Carlo are made for tankers who can aim and drive at the same time. For example, in Monte Carlo CTF, one has the flag and is drive towards his flag. He needs to also make sure he doesn't loose to many HP. Therefore he must be skilled and shoot nicely while driving at the same time. While in Dusseldorf I feel like a ninja, sneaking between all those buildings like that! I think you need a lot of skills to play in Dusseldorf, and that there are no problems in the maps. Basically, in the end it all depends on the skills of a tanker. I rarely see newbies playing Monte Carlo and Dusseldorf, simply because it's to difficult for them. But later on, as the become more skilled, they play in these long ride maps.

Nice thought though.

Rank and battle activity are what should and affect fund amounts. Maps are there so players can have a different perspectives and be able to try new game modes, styles, etc. If map was a factor in how fast the fund increases, then everyone would just be playing in Madness, Dusseldorf, and Lost Temple.

Should I understand from that that either of you usually earns 3000+ crystals in a 1-hour Monte Carlo battle?

Skill is important everywhere, so to make any comparison, we have to consider the same skill level. I can't compare a gismo playing in Monte Carlo by a recruit playing in Polygon. Did either of you say that you could earn the same number of crystals in any map for the same duration of battle?

If not, then the maps are not equally appealing.

By the way, I know that each map has its peculiarities and it may require a different style, strategy, skill set, reaction time, turret, hull, etc., so lets leave trivial things aside.

u can earn more than 20 crys if u destroy other tanks rather than to waste time to cap a flag

This is besides the point, but it isn't easy to destroy other tanks because they hide behind barricades, etc.

I actually find this quite interesting. It could be a way of making less fortunate maps more liked, then it can be removed when players play the map more, not because of the Multiplier, but because they like it..

Guys, this is not rocket science. You do not even need to be in the battle to see it either.

The battle fund is a function of the ranks and the scores in the battle. Look at a random Monte Carlo battle and a random Polygon battle. Look at the top scores too. You will see that it takes about 10 minutes in Polygon (for "normal" players) to get the scores and battle fund Monte Carlo's skilled strategic players get in 40 minutes.

I know there is fun and there are crystals, but do you really take a job in real life where the pay is so low just because you love it, not to say that the higher paying job is bad that way either? I doubt it.
