How to Reserve your free upgrade of Windows 10!

Alright so a few weeks ago, Microsoft announced a new OS, Windows 10. Windows is the last OS they're making, any changes that are needed will be implemented in Windows 10. Now for about a year, people with Windows 7 and 8.1 get a free upgrade to Windows 10 (for a year, after a year you'll need to buy it) so if you meet system specifications you'll see a Windows Icon on your task bar, and if you hover your mouse over it, it says Get Windows 10. Click on it and you've reserved it. The initial release date for Windows 10 is July 29th, if you've reserved your basically one step ahead of others. All you need is install it, the download will be taken care of you. Now my older sister came to me and told me about this but when I went on my PC I saw nothing but I had no fear. I just went through a bunch of steps. So if you were like me fear not, help is on your way. What i'm about to show you worked for me on 2 PC's and others around the world with this problem, so if it doesn't work, please don't blame me, i'll try my best to help. This guide/tips is basically for anyone with Windows 7 and 8.1 and wants to reserve although, they can't see the Icon on the task bar.

Reserving Windows 10

Step 1: First off, you got to have Windows 8.1 and if your a Windows 7 user, then Windows SP1. (Service Pack1) If you need to download SP1 then get it here.

Step 2: Make sure you have these updates installed on your PC. Windows 7 SP1: Update KB3035583 and KB2952664. Windows 8.1: Update KB3035583 and KB2976978.

Step 3: If you succeeded with the above steps then follow this...

1.  Go here and download the file.
2. Copy the win10fix_full.bat file to anywhere else like desktop.
3. Right click the file and click run as administrator.
4. Follow the screen instruction until to come to main menu screen.
5. On main menu screen do step 1 first and check if you go the updates installed and and then press any key it will take you back to main menu.
6. Now do step 2 which only takes like 1 second and should have the icon in the task bar.

Well, that's it. Hope this helped. Should you have further comments and help, feel free to post below!

If the above steps don't seem to work then try this.

1. Once you have the file downloaded, change it so you can open in Command Prompt format.

2. Wait 10-30 mins and right click and run it as an administrator

3. After that, the Icon should appear.

yeah, I have been having the icon for a week now, really annoying to see it, any way other to turn it off? I don't want a Windows 10. Just want the icon to go away... Anyone know how to?

So I clicked on the icon and just reserved it... it said that it would send me a notification when Windows 10 is available for me but it's been over a week and I haven't got the notification.

Nice guide.

I just thought I'd make it clear to everybody that you don't need to reserve Windows 10 to get the free upgrade when it is released. You can simply upgrade normally when you are ready. (What I'll probably do)

Right-click the taskbar, then click 'Properties', then click 'Customize..' under where it says 'Notification area'.

You should get a list of all notifications which appear in your taskbar. Find the one for 'Get Windows 10', hit the dropdown box, and set it to 'Hide icon and notifications.'

Go on Windows Update, it should tell you the updates and other things you need to Install, look for it in Important or optional. If its not there, wait a few days. Make sure you have notifications for Windows update on.

I did but did not see the icon...

You must've done something wrong, it worked on my brothers, my friends and I. If you really want Windows 10 wait another month till it comes out

and we'll see what you did wrong.

Not everyone has to reserve it now. Reserving now just means your're one step ahead of others who didn't.
