Food stuck in wind pipe

 Share

Recommended Posts

Okay as we know that the food we eat goes through our food pipe. But if it by chance, or by any chance gets to enter into the wrong pipe (i am talking about the wind pipe), then there is immediate coughing to remove the food from there. So we chew the food and break it into small pieces that we can swallow.

Today i was having my lunch and a piece of food was stuck in my wind pipe. I was coughing like crazy and was being unable to breathe. I felt like I was going to die. I was going to tell about it to someone but before that I became fine. It was a very scary experience and annoying at the same time. Does anyone share a similar kind of experience related to this?

Never happened so severely, but you do know that someone needs to kind of hit your back so it comes right up? And if that not works, make you throw up by performing the heimlich gesture (if that is what it is called in English).

Never knew that! If it happens again, I will do that. Happy to be alive!  :P

The wind pipe is called Trachea. It is present in your neck area. Once you swallow bolus(chewed up food), the trachea is enclosed/overlapped by a tissue so that particles of bolus don't enter into Trachea.

Its rather odd how food sometimes enters that area. Since trachea is an organ linked with respiratory system, you cough due to it being constricted. And when you try to breathe from your mouth, the bolus doesn't let air get through freely. It blocks it.

And yes, happened to me as well but wasn't really severe. The automatic 'cough-response' clears it up. :P

One time I was returning from school with my friend. I didn't eat anything or drink anything, but out of the blue, I started coughing like crazy and thought I'd die. Glad my friend was with me, he helped me a lot.

Some foods if you chew them for some time, they just disappear in your mouth. Like chips, or whatever you call it. .__.

Well, I was running a race with my friends in the indoor parking lot of my old apartment, there was a kind of raised floor and a low roof. I jumped to clear the floor and hit my head on the roof. At first, I thought that I had simply hit my head badly, but I saw that I was dripping blood everywhere....... turns out that it was a two-inch deep, three-inch wide cut and I needed four stitches on my head.

I could`ve died in 2013,I was eating boiled pork meat (we call it rasol),and the pork slide and fell in my throat..I was unable to breath, was home alone..The only thing that saved me is that I put my arm inside my mouth and took the meat out of the throat..And then I ate it again
