36÷2(3) + 4? Its not 58 -_-

36  6  + 4

10

Division is done before multiplication. Therefore, 36 ÷ 2 = 18, 18 x 3 = 54, 54 + 4 = 58.

In this problem, yes, division does come first, but not all the time. In BEDMAS, multiplication and devision are equal (,just like addition and subtraction are), and whichever comes first in the problem, that's what you do.

Just clearing it up.

What the heck is BEDMAS, is that even a legal order of operations in math? I thought there was only PEMDAS (Parentheses, Exponents, Multiplication/Division in order from left to right, Addition/Subtraction from left to right)

BEDMAS, BIDMAS, PEMDAS, BOMDAS, etc. are basically the same rules, although different letters are used and some letters - with the exception of the first two - are placed differently.

Yeah, seems to vary by location/education level. I've always known it as BODMAS.

(The 'B' being Brackets, the 'O' is Orders, and the rest obvious.)

I knew it as BEDMAS – Brackets, exponent, devision, multiplication, addition, subtraction.
