I would totally post pictures of real China, not the China you guys see in the news....but I forgot how to post pics. Did you guys know that there are many street animals in China? And it's true, in China, the only thing that has legs that people don't eat....is a table lool

^ What's the name of that red flower? It looks beautiful.

"Lys Rouge" or something like that. I've no idea. I come from a family which deals in agriculture for a living, yet I'm the last guy to ask anything about plants, soil, fertilizers, anything biological or chemical. I've only ever planted a tree once, imagine that!  I only deal with logistical stuff.

That was the only reason you changed the title right?

Actually it would have been a shame to let it go to the archive for inactivity, and since the description of the post clearly mention its also open to non-vacation photos, might as well fix the title and let some nice pictures flow in.  I prefer this over POTD's million goldboxes or Real Photo which only deal with people.  I like to see places as well, and I believe many of us around here do as well, specially since we all come from so many different places.

A lily, I guess. Screw the scientific names, they are so absurd (Lol). Nice topic. Hopefully I can dig up some pics soon!

Near 13-mile woods New Hampshire. Zoom in near the bush in the middle (between the poles) and hopefully you can make out the bull moose that wandered in. Sadly I had the wrong lens mounted. 5 seconds later, an excited driver on the road screeched to a halt beside it and scared it off. Still miffed about it.

3 or 4 years ago I went to Paris. In the picture is me standing on the Arc de Triomphe, with the eiffel tower in the background. It was foggy and the camera was bad

Was in Saudi Arabia for a month and some days, quite a nice place except the sun since I'm not that used to it but other than that, quite a wonderful place.

Nice... I thought that it's forbidden to take photographs in KSA, at least that's what I read on some photography and travel related blogs.

Yep, that is what I thought as well but what I seen with my own eyes and experienced is that, no one will even look at you like in a way that will give you the signal of not doing this or that, everyone is taking pictures of others and even if you see some police walking around and you take couple pictures near them and one directly, they won't say anything. I even took a picture of the caste where he lives, few guards are there with guns, they were the only ones I seen with guns, none of the other ones had even pistol or shocking thing and it says no pictures allowed, wasn't paying much of a attention to it and I did, guard just looked at me and I continued walking.

Another thing I heard always and read on net was that, you can't walk at night, police will come and pick you up and bring you back to your hotel, etc. Nothing of all the things I read on net or heard from others were honestly true. I was sometimes walking around with few friends I went with like at 3 am till morning and no one even looked/stop us.

You are more than free to take picture as much as you want, anywhere and anytime you want and even videos, some might even say ''excuse me, take 1 picture of me please''. Although it is quite rare. It is just like where I live, in Finland, not much of a difference to be honest.

I traveled to Khunjerab Pass, the Pakistan-China border a couple of week back, here are some pictures that I took along the way.

Gilgit, where much of the landscape is dry and arid, but somehow still looks beautiful:

Next stop was Hunza Valley, Hunza:

Along the way, I came across this beautiful lake, which by some means, literally defies logic. I mean just look at how dusty and muddy the mountains around it are!

By the way, this lake was formed in 2005 during an earthquake, where an entire mountain fell to the ground, creating a huge depression in the ground. Amazing, isn't it?

A place known as Babusar Top, a road so dangerous, the local police prohibits traveling on it after 6 PM to sunrise. There is no lighting, no road-side barriers and the almost half of the one-lane road is covered by mountain-side glaciers. We traveled on it in the eerie silence of the night at 2 AM (which is why I wasn't able to get any pictures). Fortunately, we were traveling in a convoy led by some military officers, so were allowed. Though I still managed to get a picture just before sundown.

Three to four hours away from the destination:

Finally, after five days of traveling, we finally reached the Pass; simply breathtaking!

The place is MUCH nicer looking than I thought! I was thinking of going to Germany at first but no, that can wait. Totally gonna go in there before any other country.

Switzerland is definitely a place to visit, especially if you have a car to go around because you don't need more than a couple of hours to go from one nice place to another - even to go to Italy or France. The railway is also an awesome way to travel but it's pretty costly so I'd avoid that :D Cruises on lakes aren't expensive though so that's another fine way to enjoy the view...

But be aware - it's one of the most expensive countries in the world! Everything's gonna cost you a LOT!

I can confirm that Switzerland is a beautiful country. So is Germany by the way (posted some pics of it somewhere in this topic).

Well it's pretty easy to argue that all countries are beautiful tbh... Just not necessarily as accessible as others.

That's the matter of taste and what a person looks for. Some prefer warm climates, some cold. Some prefer countries with a lot of mountains and greenery, other like deserts and the sea. Some look for cities and museums, others for open space. Some want countries with good food, others want ones that offer good choice of drinks... Then you have island countries and continental ones so yeah, really depends on the person and their view on what's beautiful  :)
