Corrosion: Chapter 4

Warehouse: East London. 10:38 PM

Lt. Miller holds up one hand, “stop”. The other men stop behind him as he creeps to the door. Locked. He made a quick gesture with his hand, and a small man approaches him with a few locking picking tools. Two minutes later the lock is off and the door is able to be opened.

“Mark, Jason, you take right. Jessy, Robert, left.” Miller whispers. The orders are followed immediately, and without question. They had done this many times before, it was a practiced drill.

With one nod, they kicked down the door. The four took the two sides, while Miller dove down towards the nearest pile of crates. A quick patter on gunfire proceeds. Nothing much, but the aggressors in the warehouse quickly retreated.

They slowly advanced through the warehouse, pausing at every turn and ledge, searching for any sign of trouble. The occasional bullet flies through the air, a few missing their heads by inches.

With one motion, they drop into a crouch, the final door ahead of them.

“This is it, sir.” said Jessy, her pulse pounding, “The last of Tucker’s warehouses. And, this time, we got him off guar-” His last word was cut off by a loud crack, a splat and a trickle of blood running down her face. She slumps forward, dropping her gun next to her. It takes a whole five seconds to let her death sink in before instincts take control.

“Get to cover!” Miller yells, his voice cracking. “Return fire!”

The fight is fast and one sided. Miller looks around and sees not only Jessy but Jason also fallen and Mark badly injured.

“Drop your weapons, this fight isn’t worth anymore lives.” Said Miller. Robert looks at Miller, livid. Jessy had been his partner for seven years, and he did not want her death to go unavenged.

“Officer, drop your gun. NOW!” Robert reluctantly drops the gun, in the silence the clatter left a ring in their ears.

“I will kill you one day Tucker, you just took one step too far.” Muttered Robert. He knew it was not Tucker who had killed her in person, but it was under his orders. One day, one day soon. Robert would get his revenge.

London Police Station, The Next Day, 8:37

Police Chief Raymond paced the floor. What on earth could you, or do, do describe the fury. He looks to Miller, waiting for any reaction. His eyes measuring up every inch of him, trying to find a weakness, any sign of indifference. All he saw was steeled eyes. Eyes that had seen too much. Too much pain, fear, loss. Yet there was a permeating anger that emanated from every pore.

¨Two of our best men Miller, TWO!¨ Said Raymond. ¨And what do you have to show for it? Nothing.¨ Miller sat in silence. A cold fury building up inside. He had been there to see, had to call his own men off. And now his own Chief was reiterating all the pain.

“Consider yourself lucky, Miller. We have recently received a contact, something about an upcoming plan for Rail. He said he’d meet you tonight, and he said to come armed, you never know when you are followed. You’re dismissed.”

With his anger slightly assuaged, Miller stiffly stood up, nodded to his chief, and walked away.

That Night, Random Alleyway 9:23

It was a rainy night. A light drizzle that went to a downpour in the space of time it took for Miller to leave the Police Station to go one block. Why does nature hate me, He thought. It was a long two-mile walk. He was drenched to the bone, with his clothes sticking to his skin. He shuddered; why did England always have to rain when he did something important?

After a painful twenty minute walk, he ducked into the alley way to meet his contact.

“Do you have any idea how cliched this meeting spot is?” asked Miller.

“Yeah, but it is safer than any phone. Phones can be tapped, people can keep a secret. Besides, there is an ammo shop nearby, I needed to be in this area anyways.” Replied the man. “We need to talk. I need a favor.”

Miller shuddered. A hitman asking for favors does not usually end well, at least for some people.

“Why should I help you?”

“Because if you don’t, you will never catch Tucker, and you will lose a national Landmark. That enough motivation?”

Damn. Miller thought. Why did I get all the hard missions?

This is the Amateur Writing section, where you can write anything as long as it follows the Game, Forum and Section rules. That includes articles not related to Tanki.

I love it! The story's great, 'cause I've always liked shooting scenes, and the formatting is also superb! A real piece of work!
