A Penny a day?

 Share

Recommended Posts

Regardless of your Nationality, when you walk down the street do you pick up any loose change? For example: In the U.S. our lowest denomination is a penny. Not worth much on it's own, but when doubled daily, in 30 days it will yield $10.7 million.

Day 1...1 penny

Day 2...2 pennies

Day 3...4 pennies

Day 4...8 pennies

Day 6...16 pennies

and so on

So, to you, is it worth the effort to bend over and pick up that seemingly worthless coin?

I do. I figure I'm a penny richer than I was a second ago. And if I find 5 pennies that day, I'm a nickle richer and didn't have to work for it .....besides being tax free.

Well in Canada we no longer have a penny .. we have a nickel and higher ,so you get richer faster in our country..lol

and if you do have a penny start saving them now they could pay your way into collage or get you something nice one day they do add up in the long run..

Im not immature to look down the street looking for pennies -_- , That money is not yours so it will be Stealing IMO

also picking up from the road? if u spend 5 hrs finding a coin if u work hard for 5 hrs and earn money (even if you have to be a labor) Thats far better than picking up from the street

I sometimes throw them away when I have too many of those little coins of 1 or 2 eurocent.

Save them up in a jar at home and when you have 99 of them, get yourself a Goldbox or some crystals. :p

Well, I'd be more likely to pick one up than to throw one away on the street. That would just be a waste, no matter how small it is. There are better ways to dump your money, the street isn't one of them.
Picking up coins from the street isn't stealing by the way, but I usually leave them where they are. I'm sure there are people who need them more than I do.

I do consider it as stealing, if I dropped a coin then saw somebody pocketing it for himself I wouldn't be happy about it. But thats just personal.

I often do that. I throw the smallest coins of 1, 2 and 5 RSD in the trash along with bill from the store. Maybe it is bad habit, but 1 EUR = 123 RSD, Coins of 1, 2 and 5 RSD are practically worthless.

You can't blame anyone who picks it up... It is your mistake that you dropped it ... Yeah obvio I will get angry if I see anyone picking up the money I dropped but it is my fault

How is this  stealing? I've seen people drop pennies at the gas station, look to see what dropped and then drive off. Do you really think they will come back hours later or even minutes later to retrieve those coins? I hardly think so.

I don't walk around specifically looking for money, but if I happen to look down and see one, I will pick it up. But if I see someone drop money, I will tell that person. If they don't want it, I'll wait until they walk away and then  I'll pick it up. I see nothing wrong with claiming something that has been discarded and declared unwanted.

I wouldn't say picking something up from the ground is for low class people (or for any class for that matter).
It has more to do with seeing the value of things.
There's even more than one saying that sums it up real nicely if you ask me:

"He that despises/spurns the small is not worthy of the great"

"He that will not stoop for a pin will never be worth a pound"

Dont get this, What the odds of finding double the amount every day. An i you are on about only finding a penny a day after 6 days you have 6p, or after 1 year you will have £3.65 not exactly worth the effort.
