30 Tips For Effective Article Writing

Hello yet again!

2000px_Blue_pen_icon_svg.png

I've read a great many questions about article writing floating around the forum and PM. Most of them are simple questions like 'how to write a good article', strangely enough, I find these incredibly hard to answer. However, I fought myself to answer all these people and spent some time thinking and thus have written this list of my tips for effective article writing. Enjoy!

1: Take your time. (Unless you're Goldy or bry and can churn out articles in two days yea they wrote them in two days apparently)

2: Think about what you want to write.

3: If you can't think of any ideas try thinking of titles instead.

4: Be as informative as possible without too much detail which will bore the reader.

5: ALWAYS have at least one photo in your article. I mean, ALWAYS.

6: If your article doesn't need a particular photo, look for a free vector which fits the theme.

7: Format your article effectively, don't use oversized text, excessively bright colours or too much CAPS LOCK.

8: If you are unsure what colours to use, have a look at some Newspaper articles.

9: Resize your images to fit the forum so that nobody has excessive loading times or use spoilers.

10: Get your spelling and grammar spot on.

11: Get your facts right.

12: Use a compelling title, readers are less likely to click on 'How to get a Goldbox' than, 'lux's ultimate guide to Gold Boxes!'

13: If you are explaining something complex, include a video or diagram/chart depending on what's suitable.

14: Don't use flowery language like 'building the true conversational understanding and being able to have the dialogue where we plan to differentiate...' this actually means that Google Assistant can understand conversations and was said at a Google press conference. (Just carry on reading if you're confused)

15: Try not to use numbers, it will look better, mainly in stories.

16: Don't use emojis except for comic purposes.

17: Think of a custom signature, then use it on ALL your articles. It can even be as simple as a piece of text that stands out.

18: Use the forum's PM feature to format your articles.

19: Respond to replies and take feedback from readers.

20: Add some humour to the article, but it's important to be yourself.

21: Don't write about something that's already been written about unless it's an opinion piece, etc or you have a different side to talk about.

22: When writing a common series of articles such as ' Kit reviews' try to keep the format same as the others.

23: If writing a series, release them as consistently as you possibly can.

24: Personally, I like to sit in a quiet room while writing, I find it helps a lot though this may differ for others.

25: If your article is over 1200 words, release it in segments, many readers will be daunted if they see a massive wall of text. If this isn't possible, include a captivating introduction to so that your reader stays interested to the end, this doesn't necessarily apply to stories.

26: Stick to one form of English, ie don't use 'thou' at one point then 'the' at another.

27: Similarly, stick to one country's English, like British English or American English.

28: You must enjoy writing, if you don't, it will convey in your work.

29: Don't be discouraged with negative feedback, just try harder.

30: Last but not least, write as much as you can, even if you don't end up publishing it. Practice makes perfect!

5: Hey, titles are more troublesome for me than what the story will be for stories :p

26/27: What if in a story there's many characters and some use American English and others use British? And what if some characters stick to the old formats (that type of English using 'thou') or different texts demand different formats?

25: Plx, writing story parts of over 1k words is pro :p

I think I only ever follow 7, 10, 11, 19, 26, 27, 28, 29 and 30. :P

In other words, all the obvious ones. :p

Gotta disagree with #5. Some font/text changes along with proper spacing can be equally as pleasing to the eyes.

Also, I'm half-back. School isn't as hard as I thought it would be.

Just saying.

l doubt 5. is necessary.

It is.

Ever heard of the saying "One picture is worth a thousand words"? :P

If you're running short of words for an article, use number 5 and voila, you've already far exceeded the word requirement.
