Words of Advice

I had an epiphany a while back and it changed the way I see things entirely. DO THINGS THAT WILL ULTIMATELY BENIFITE YOU (don't know if all those words are spelled right...for some reason, it's hard to tell with caps). I seriously mean it!! Do something that will ultimately benefit you IN THE LONG RUN. Even if it seems small and useless, if it's a hobby, if its reading a book, or something that is hard to accomplish, DO IT. Life is supposed to be a challenge...not a strenuous challenge, but a challenge. If something is festering in your mind, SOLVE IT. Trust me, you'll feel so much better afterwords. One important key to life is moderation. Do things, but not to the extremes.

Trust me, when life begins, if it hasn't hit you yet, it will. If you are prepared, you'll make a smooth transition. If you haven't, it will hit you HARD. Focus on things that matter most and will matter down the road. Life is long and you have to prepare for it, not wait on it. Where will you be in 5 years? Will you be happy and successful? 2 weeks is a long time to get something done, but imagine how much you could accomplish in 5 years??

All I'm saying is do things that are important in the long run. Even if something may not be that important now, such as maybe learning how to paint or make a few cocktails, trust me. On a resime, these things, people would see as a skill. This skill might be useless to them, but nonetheless they will know you have at least some kind of skill. But, "was a mod for 2 years" 10,000 supplies level 2 M4 galore.....ain't nobody got time for that!! If you think something is missing in your life, don't sulk about it. FIGHT FOR IT!! Too many people get led astray and well, that's why you see so many gloomy faces today.

Be smart. Wisdom is a virtue. Like Maya Angelou (have no idea who she is) once said, "Life is going to give you just what you put into it." Do something people who genuinely care about you will say "That was amazing what you did, he was great at that, what a legacy, etc." And exercise...trust me that stuff really works ;) ;)

Be smart and wise. Never forget how lucky you are. Count your blessings, and know that everyday is a new day :) :) God bless

I would actually argue against that. Basing your whole psychology on long term thinking will only lead to depression and pain. As you said, "But, "was a mod for 2 years" 10,000 supplies level 2 M4 galore.....ain't nobody got time for that!!". Yes, they do. We do. It is human nature to do activities which they enjoy (And tbh, being a mod actually gives you some skills but that's a whole new topic). Do you regret playing football with your friends whole summer back when you were 12? Don't you think that time could have been spent gaining some 'life skills' and doing some long term planning? No? Why? Because it's absurd.

Obviously, you have to plan to some extent. You have to study now and get good marks to get educated in a field of your choice. No one can just spend their whole lives just doing stuff to help them in long term (No.. Not even Asians. #NoRacist). You want to spend 3 hours playing a virtual game? Sure, go ahead! Just don't do it to an extent that it adversely affects your behaviour and academics. That's control. That's not shunning.

As for leaving legacies and stuff... Sure. It sounds nice on paper. But we really don't have billions of amazing legacies. It is very rare to find people like that who outperform everyone else around them. But can everyone do that? Quoting a line from a movie I think everyone must have seen, "If everyone is super, no one will be." That has much deeper implications than what seems on surface. So, am I telling you that you're just a normal kid who can't do anything great? No! Of course not! But I cannot force you to do that. No one can and no one should. That passion comes from within not without. The great people weren't forced to shun their whole lives and focus one the 'things that matter'. Of course we see that these people faced many hardships and yet they climbed the mountain. Well, let me tell you another thing: For every one such person, there are thousands other who were forced to face these hardships and ended up nowhere.

Decades later, when you are on your deathbed, you don't want to regret your life. You don't want to remember your teenage and youth years as the time of grinding and toil just to achieve a goal which probably didn't even matter in the end. I was reading a nice article somewhere which was about a survey of people on their deathbeds. Most of the people regretted the fact that they didn't give more time to themselves. They regretted that they allowed themselves to be led by the herd trying to do things they didn't like. Do you really want that?

In the end, I would just like to say that enjoy the little things around you. Face hardships, learn some skills but only those which you enjoy. Enjoy painting? Enjoy writing? Improve yourself in that. Enjoy playing MMO's? Go ahead! Game industry has a good future and there are tons of possible careers there. Just remember that they don't want game addicts who flunked school.. XD. (Another interesting fact: An avid action gamer can track upto 10 objects at a time on screen while an average human can do only 4-5..Won't that be a good skill to have when you're in military and have been given a job to track things via drones?). Don't over think. Be a little selfish. The people who are criticising now will be long dead when you're reviewing your life. They won't matter. Play that game. Go for that night out with your friends. Enjoy the movie. Just don't overdo it ;)

"What if some day or night a demon were to steal after you into your loneliest loneliness and say to you: 'This life as you now live it and have lived it, you will have to live once more and innumerable times more' [...] Would you not throw yourself down and gnash your teeth and curse the demon who spoke thus? Or have you once experienced a tremendous moment when you would have answered him: 'You are a god and never have I heard anything more divine!'" The Gay Science, Nietzsche

What if once you died, your life restarted, again and again, without any changes, in an eternal recurrence ? Each second would weight a lot more, that is, an eternity. Would you still sacrifice your present for your future ?

@Beaku:

It's important to work as hard as you can when you are young so you can be succesful when you are an adult. If you waste your youth playing video games you will not have a successful adulthood and then your kids won't even have the opportunity to waste their youth like you did. Part of the reason why western nations are failing and eastern nations are getting ahead is because they are willing to work harder when they're young.

I'm not sure we're allowed to discuss this (please don't hide my post), but the only thing that matters when you are dying is this:

-Did you do the best you could have done with your life? and

-Did you do what was right, good, and true?

With all due respect, I think you have the wrong attitude. The point of life is not to have as much fun as you can while your at it. Your life has a purpose.

the only purpose in life is the circle of life ...over all what we do in between has little merit to others but yourself... its fully your choice to be lazy or to work hard in life .. you just have to remember the consequences of what happens getting there .. in other words if you want little to do in your life then you will have little to nothing to show for it in the end.. if you work hard and succeed on your goals then you will have achieved all that you are capable in life and what it has to offer u in the end...

so in the end you are the only one ( next to your family ) who you should concern your self with..

now if your talking about computer games it depends on what job your heading out to get and also what you put into them.. for the Newspaper section this area would be the main important job for anyone to get ..due to the fact it would enhance your skills in so many ways and help in life skills as well.. for tech support also good if your going to be in that line of work .. for the other fields not really due to what job fields are there for a mod ?? ( just saying ) sure you understand computer stuff but really anyone can do it now a days coming out of high school or Collage / univ. so you really need to get more education in other fields to help enhance your real life skills ..

in other words anyone can wash dishes but there are some who know how to get stains out of tea cups or how to get a pot clean and not to have stuff around the handle of the pot .. so every one needs to upgrade there life as a daily routine .. even if its only a small amount it will add for your future on how to achieve your goals .. learning is part of being a noob....

sorry if this sounds rude or hash but this is what real life is all about ... sorry for provoking ...

Uh??? Nothing in the world (natural world, not society, which is artificial) gives us any purpose or law. Thus we are free.

If your life has a purpose, then it's human-made, thus artificial.

Sit in a forest alone during a whole day and appart from eating/sleeping you won't have any purpose in reach. Add more people but, not much will change. The idea of purpose only comes from habits. But at least we are free, are we not ?

I feel like I opened a door and walked into a wall. :P

But yeah, I agree with what you say, don't get too serious about it. The key being moderation.

I feel like in the last moments, we should be able to forgive ourselves for what we have not accomplished, forgive others for judging/begrudging us in the light that we may unconsciously do it ourselves and slip into that night on the soft pillow of our little accomplishments. In the meanwhile, if you've taught someone all you know/could (a child or a friend even) it's been worthwhile. A good way to die IMO. ^_^

Yes... Moderate everything. Don't become a slog and lose your humanity but don't become a homeless addict either.. :p
