Video Editing Fashion

 

There are some things about the editors in Tanki community that I really dislike. There are always some effects that become a fashion and a whole lot of Tanki videomakers start using them. The biggest one is the terrible blinking effect, it doesn't look good at all (at least in the vast majority of cases) but people keep using it on and on and on. The main use of this effect is to make the video flow with the music, but I think it's a bad idea to use this blinking effect this way. Main reason is that you really don't need to make every single drum beat visible on screen, going with the flow of the music doesn't mean that every time a louder or more powerful sound is played you need to do something to the video to visualize it. I watched a while ago a video of "tanki parkour VS real parkour" and the editor used this same blinking effect on the real life parkour part... Where did you ever see this blinking effect used in any other type of videos outside tanki!? No one uses it for real life parkour videos and not anywhere else, you will not see any professionals using blinking effects, ever.

 

Another thing that became a fashion recently is the twisting transition where the image rotates with acceleration and quickly changes into the next piece of footage and slows back down. I liked this effect the first time I've seen it, but since then lots of people started using it and it just creates a feeling of "ahh.. another one of those videos...".

 

Dear Tanki video makers, please, stop overusing these effects. Like this twisting transition, it is really cool but if you overuse it it becomes boring and at some point even annoying. Special transitions like this are great if you know when to use them, but they are terrible if you use them for every single transition in your videos in like ten videos in a row.

Same goes for the blinking effect, flashing effect and any other popular effect you can think about. It's great if you know exactly when and how to use it, and only if you don't overuse it.

YES. I absolutely hate that blinking effect. Besides being INCREDIBLY annoying, every time I watch a video that uses it, I keep thinking what would happen if someone with epilepsy were to watch it. Please, seriously, throw that blasted blinking effect into the trash can and don't use it anymore. Please, for the love of all that's holy lol

I told a friend about the blinking effect the other day, and that was his reply:

 

"ik but if i dont do anything and just have the video synced to audio, people think i did nothing LOL"

 

I guess many people think like this... When I watch a video it's for the content and not for having more editing done to it. There is no such thing as not enough editing as long as the video looks good, most videos are actually over-edited. You absolutely don't need to worry about people thinking you didn't do much editing, go with the way you like seeing the video... it's your piece of art and it's best when you love every part about it regardless of how much editing it takes.

Most of the youtubers editing with: SV Pro 11/12/13 (Sony Vegas) and AE CS6 (After effects) This is best apps to edit videos for Youtube. every app it's different ways to edit + some new cool features and effects (you can download effects as well) is for someone with editing skills. if you want to edit at the easy way you can edit with "camtasia studio 8" is easy to edit and with good quality. and of course there are so many guides to learn the basic of this apps. for recording: Bandicam,Fraps,Shadowplay. of course there are so many more apps to record videos but this is the most popular apps to record videos with good quality.

The blinking and such effects only look good when the tank is doing something miraculous, worthy of a high upbeat and slow motion.

I personally edit for myself and a few other youtube channels, I take pride in editing and I try my best to satisfy everyone's wants/needs. Its my personal opinion that songs are the base of any gaming edit ( especially tanki ) if you can find a way to use any beat to your advantage DO IT!

However I totally agree with swiftsmokey! Those effects are WAY overused. I use them once or twice in good places. I understand to not use them as EVERY transition. The problem with most small youtubers these days is they follow what they have seen. and all they have seen in over used effects. for instance I used a few flashes back in my past vids, But i realized how annoying it was after a while. So instead of simply cutting that whole idea out I just toned the effect of the effect ( if you don't follow what i'm saying basically instead of pure black or pure white I color corrected the flashes so its not so hard on the eyes and it still keeps that beat flowing effect. So in short what I'm saying is if your going to use a bunch of effects go for it! but remember not everyone likes that... If you want to satisfy both parties maybe tone down your usage of them or maybe even their potency ( as I did with the flashing ). Video editing is a true art, it needs true dedication and patience much patience :P 

 

P.S. I used adobe premiere pro cc 2017 and after effects CC 2017 and sometimes blender and photoshop :)

CCs in every single clip, *for sony vegas users* WHY DON'T YOU DISABLE RESAMPLE?!, seriously I notice the constant ghosting when image moves a bit quick, and it makes any velocity syncs. look bad. sometimes people use music that doesnt go with the clips of the "edit"

Please use cinematics, even if it's from Tanki X, but please use Cinematics. and for Sony Vegas users please just disable resample. and for everyone STOP USING COLD-TEMP. CCs IT DOESNT GO WELL WITH EVERYTHING

I understand what you mean but for some video editors they try but thats all they may know how to do ! I mean to make a generally good edited and nice to watch video, even if you know how to edit well, you need a lot of time, I remember editing a 2 minute montage a while back and it took my 2 hours! for 2 minutes, so if some videos are 'ugly' then maybe the creator doesn't have much time. Anyways good comment though
