My Tanki Opinions, Developers Please read :P Warning: Long

Tanki Report

My Writing Plan:

- Area restrictions in maps

 

- The hulls lost their uniqueness

 

- Why the hell would we play with dictator when we can play with another hull that is less vulnerable to attack!

 

- Some turrets are very underpowered

 

- Strikers aiming time to shoot is too long, tanks can easily escape its laser.

 

- Shaft is supposed to be a sniper turret right? Shaft used to be a very good turret and many players used to dread   its power. Maybe that was an issue for you Tanki online developers, but come on guys, you add the laser and remove that moving motion.

 

- That moving motion gives a player skills and the laser added makes it impossibly difficult to should targets. Tankers just move out of its laser shooting area and the player loses his opportunity.
The moving motion while in snipe mode makes it more challenging for its user to shoot its target.

 

- Maps are getting really boring now.

 

- Crystal boxes removed, there should be more maps supporting night time, and you could add sunset and some other types.

 

- Firebird and freeze lost their ability to damage tanks through other tanks, which is a horrible idea.

 

- The protection modules have a very high percentage of protection.

 

- There should be atleast a 5% xp booster in the special section, it would motivate players to play more and harder.

 

- You could add a 2000 crystal gold box in the shop and it could be double the price of a normal gold box.

 

- You could m4 version of hulls and turrets, meaning that if someone upgrades his m3 turret and hull to 50/50, then there could be a new design for that turret/ hull.

 

- SMS version of buying crystals it too low.

Introduction:
I have been playing Tanki online for a while now, I have reached the final rank called legend. I have enjoyed this game so much that I ranked to the final rank in about 1 year. The Tanki Help team helped me very much when someone convinced me to give him his pass so he can give me all the "m3s that I wanted", he ended up with nicking my account, and at that time I was young and it wasn't connected to my email -_- .
The Tanki community is so wonderful, I just love chatting with them. The game's main concept is wonderful, I just love it.
Some of the game updates make the game even better to play, but to be honest there are some serious issues In the game that I want to discuss:

First of, I want to talk about the area restriction in the maps. I suspect that the Tanki Developers have removed the ability for players to go on roofs of building and some other places because It gives them many issues I don't really know about.
But come on devs, it was the funnest thing in the game, shooting tanks from roofs and hills.
Another sad thing is that in serpuhov: They added that barrier on the side of the maps so no tanker can go through, which is sad.
There is very limited freedom in this game which is very dissapointing.

Second issue:

 

Why would the hulls have the same protection, i.e why would hornet have the same protection as wasp but is same, and why would dictator have the same protection as viking and hunter. Viking has the highest speed of all of the medium hulls, Hunter has medium speed of them and Dictator has the slowest speed. All of them have the same protection.
Come on, This game is not World Of Tanks, where there are hundreds of different tanks! You can't afford to this in Tanki online. Why play with Dictator when you can play with a hull that has the same protection but is faster than it!
This update went on my nerves!

Third issue:

 

Many turrets are underpowered and many of the lighter hulls have very little protection, hornet m4 has very little protection too!
Come on, If I have railgun I would have to shoot a heavy hull like 5 shots and 10 shots if it has double shield.

Fourth Issue:

Strikers aiming time is too long, and I mean too long. Player can dodge its aiming very easily and quickly which makes the player using it very annoyed and frustrated.

Fifith Issue:
 

Shaft is supposed to be a sniper turret? Adding the laser made shaft one of the worst turret in Tanki! And removing that moving motion while in snipe mode made it even worst. Using a turret needs skill and without that moving motion there is no skill.
What is the point of using a turret like shaft, when it is very frustrating to shoot a player, they dodge it, know where you're aiming.
To conclude, Shaft lost its power, uniqueness and skill requirement!
That laser makes it nearly impossible to shoot a target. Tankers just move out of its laser shooting area and the player loses his opportunity.
The moving motion while in snipe mode makes it more challenging for its user to shoot its target.

Sixth Issue:

Maps are getting really boring now, very boring.
Using the same map and the same design of the map makes the player very boring indeed.
There could be a mode for the map to alternate between night mode, sunset mode and daylight mode to make the gameplay more fun.
You could enable this in the map creation section. There should be more map modes added (e.g. Night mode, sunset, and others).
The crystals removed from the maps made the gameplay even boring. I admit that the last time the developers added that crystal updated it was too high!
You could put crystal signs on maps and make the value of the crystals very low.
I suspect that the main reason you removes the crystal dropping feature is because many people stopped playing properly and started to just catch crystal boxes.
If the value of the crystal boxes ranged from let's say 2 - 5 crystals then players would'nt really bother to camp and "sleep" near it!
The crystal boxes just makes the gameplay more fun and increases the amount of crystals in your "wallet" rather slowly.

 

There also should be none removable maps made by default, For example if there is frequently XP/BP matches, there should be none removable xp/bp matches.

Seventh Issue:

The ability to damage tanks through other tanks using Firebird and Freeze was a great idea.
Firebird and Freeze are already underpowered when attacking heavy and medium hulls with double shield and with a very high protection percentage!
Damaging tanks through other tanks gave the two turrets uniqueness and made them a little more powerful.
By the way, you might think that, oh the alteration parameters for freeze and firebird solves the damn problem. My answer is: NO, it doesn't, you may ask why g: Because the medium hulls and heavy hulls have too much protection, when it's on double shield and it becomes significantly harder to damage them fatally!

Eighth Issue:

The protection modules have a very high percentage of protection.
Some of the protection modules are too high against turrets, To balance this issue out, I recommend adding a little more damage to turrets.

Ninth Issue:

There should be at least a 5% xp booster in the special section, it would motivate players to play more and harder.
Tanki is getting boring, I remember when there was a 15%, 50% and 100% xp boosters. I admit that this was too much, and by the way that is why I ranked in less than a year or so.
I know that for the premium members of the game they have some kind of crystal and xp booster, but what about the players who don't even have a credit card or don't wanna buy?
You could atleast but a 5% xp booster, or even a 5% crystal boost <---- This is just my opinion.

Tenth Issue:

I am still too young to have a credit card, or any other payment cards. My parents think it is absurd to put money in a game. But you know what? Tanki online is worth putting money into, well at least sometimes!
I used to buy crystals using the SMS method, it used to be a little cheap but It was worth it.
£10 for 45000 crystals, it is nothing but looking at the UK Version of the shop 200,000 crystals is nearly £70, I think this is too expensive. Not precise here.
The sms payment used to be simple and "child safe" but it was extremely limited. This is my opinion ...

 

Who would wanna by 10,000 crystals for £10.00 -_- -.-'

Eleventh Issue:

The main and the most important thing for Alternativa to be successful in its projects is to listen to players.
Younger players have a lot more powerful imagination than older players, younger players have a powerful creativity and sometimes a good perspective. So just listen.
Players don't have a lot of freedom in the game. In fact there is very little freedom in this game.

Ideas for the game:

You could add a 2000 crystal gold box in the shop and it could be double the price of a normal gold box.
Instead of adding more hulls and turrets in the game: You could add an M4 version of the turrets. Suppose a player upgraded his M3 Hull/Turret to M4, there could be a new and better design for it. It could look more sophisticated and better looking.

So that is it for now. This is what I truly think about this game.
And by the way these are my opinions, if these issues would be fixed and some of the ideas implemented than Tanki Online would have happier and more eager player and it would get more profit!

Finally just to have some sympathy for the Tanki Development team, many of the restriction features in the game are there to prevent hackers from disturbing matches, less lagging, less bugs to be fixed and many others.

1. The area restrictions are there not because of technical limitations, but because players used to abuse them during battles. People would get on top of a building or into another hard-to-reach place and either keep the flag there (thus hindering the game's progress), or camp there instead of helping their team and wait for a Gold box to drop, so they can jump on top of it (e.g. on Noise). If you want to play without these restrictions, just enter a Parkour format battle - you only die there if you go too high in the air or fall off the map.

 

2&3. Many players were against this update, but developers say that it was done to make hulls more organised: three groups of tanks (light, medium and heavy) and each group has variations within it, which offer different speeds, maneuverability and handling. Viking may be faster than the other two medium hulls, but Dictator has a large body (good for golds) and Hunter is easier to control.

 

4. For suggestions regarding balancing equipment, please post in the topic Let's Discuss Game Balance

 

5. Striker's lock-on mechanic was recently improved. But for further suggestions please also use the topic I linked above.

 

6&7. The shaking of the scope was not a skill-dependant feature. It moved about randomly and only made aiming annoying due to it's unpredictable nature. The laser, on the other hand, added a lot more skill requirement to effective Shaft gameplay, because now the player needs to hide his scope, change sniping locations and be quick with the aim to fire before the enemy notices the laser.

 

8. There are already plenty of maps in Tanki. Sure, many of them share the same four sets of textures, but I don't think it's a big deal, since gameplay is more important than graphics and aesthetic features. Also, things like day cycles and weather will increase loading time and make the game more laggy. It's really not worth it.

 

9. As for crystal boxes - you're wrong about players not bothering to stop for small amounts of crystals. People will still camp and collect crystals, even if there's just one in each box. The whole crystal boxes feature is terrible anyway. It does nothing to improve gameplay and simply makes no sense: why would there be currency randomly falling out of the sky during the battle??

 

10. Developers decided that removing Freeze's and Fire's ability to shoot through tanks as a necessary change to improve balance. If you disagree with that please use the balance topic I linked above.

 

And of course a tank is harder to kill if it has armor activated. That's what it's supposed to do!

 

11. Protection values for modules are quite balanced now. There are multiple people complaining about protections being too LOW, due to an increasing number of weapons and only 3 protections from them at any time. So I'm pretty sure you're in the minority here.

 

12. Players who don't support the project by buying don't get to have access to convenient tools such as EXP boosters. Simple as that :)

 

13. Ideas for things related to buying should be posted in this topic. But we do not accept ideas for increasing the value of gold boxes.

 

14. This was already suggested by other players.

Your parents are right. Please wait until you are an adult earning your own money before spending it on unnecessary things.

No mate, you think too much of yourself. Children may have a powerful imagination, but older people are often very creative and, what's more important, they can consider all the aspects of the game when suggesting something or giving feedback. I can clearly see this from the ideas I see on the forum - younger users mostly suggest absurd and ricidulous things or changes which would destroy the game, while older players think about what the game really needs and post sensible ideas for things which would improve the game and be beneficial to all players and developers.

 
Not sure what you mean by lack of freedom in the game. Please explain.

Most, if not all of these, have been addressed on the forum many times over the past few years. I didn't waste my time reading past #10, but there are solid reasons for most of the things in your list (as Mafioso has already pointed out).

I prefer the laser 'cuz it makes people that I aim at start to panic and lose focus. It's a more effective psychological tool than most people think it is.

9. The whole crystal feature was NOT terrible mate. The crystal boxes made the game more enjoyable. Again this is just my opinion.

I am 17 so I am not a child. I don't think too much of myself -_- I wasn't talking about children. By saying "young" I meant 15 - 25 year olds.

In my opinion, younger players are more creative than older players, younger players play much more than older players.

Kids mostly suggest absurd and ridiculous ideas while the teen - older players think about things that would drastically improve the game.

 

The lack of freedom phenomenon was about the area limitation which really annoys me.

AND yeah I came back, it took me a very long time to list the issues I thought was in the game and write a whole TO "Report". So it makes sense that I would come back and see what the responses are...

1. Not everyone does it, but it was a big enough of a problem that developers decided to take action.

 

2&3.  The topic of hulls was covered in a recent livestream with Hazel Rah (the lead game designer). He said that the separation of hulls into three groups is part of a bigger plan and you will see the benefits of it soon enough, after one of the updates in the near future.

 

6&7. This is arguable, but the laser is something that had to be done to make Shaft less of a nuisance.

 

9. You're a minority with this opinion. Most players agree that crystal boxes ruined gameplay, so their removal was praised by a lot of the more professional players. The only ones complaining about their removal are those, who played only for easy crystals, rather than for the competition itself.

 

11. The new protection modules can still be upgraded to 50%.

 

12. Yes. Convenience is not necessity. You can play the game as it is for free (and it's already quite balanced), but if you want to save time and effort you have to pay.

Well I think it's helpful for other players to see this as well. It helps them understand a developer's point of view. I enjoyed reading your responses :) And it looks like he did come back :P
