It's been two whole months since the Best of AWC last graced your screens, but do not despair, for in that time we've amassed quite a collection of quality articles, the best of which will be listed here for your reading pleasure, alongside the usual news, distinguished members, and the results for our latest project. So what are you waiting for? Read on!

Top 5 articles

The upside of the brief hiatus of the Best of AWC was that we had plenty of time to collect some brilliant articles. As usual, they're not in any particular order, and are all excellent reads.

1.Tanki Combo Psycology... or Whatever

by @pieface101

The Turret

One of the most obvious places to look on a tank is of course the turret. You can tell a lot from the shape of a turret, it's condition, and where it's pointed. For instance, if a Shaft is pointed at you, you're pretty much screwed. However, we will just focus on what turret it is.

Firebird

Firebirds are majestic beasts that have a burning passion for something. Their desire can be for anything, music, art, literature, or maybe even you if you're lucky. They are often outspoken and easily find their voice. They are often extroverts, enthusiasts, or maybe even fanatics. Firebirds are your best bet for the tankwoman of your dreams. A Firebird's worst enemy is the Freeze.

Tweezers: A highly imaginative, engaging and humorous piece, which despite its length manages to keep you reading (and sniggering) until the end. Very well done!

2. Short Stories

by @Sr.I3oSS

- Knife in the Back -

I picked up the phone. Nothing. Just a message from what looked like a travel agency: “25% off flights to Sp…”. Agitation had me fully digested by now. I had no whereabouts of my brother, just a simple instruction: wait for the message. I had the money ready, the car ready. Patience was said to be its own reward, but to be honest, that was the last thing I wanted to hear. Patience: what did I ever get from being patient? I checked the phone again. Nothing. I searched my pockets for the car keys and went outside. I didn’t want to waste any more time. I headed towards my Ford as thin needles poured down out of the depressing grey sky. My shoes were still soaking wet since yesterday, which was when I went to the police station. They refused to even take a report of what I had to say, let alone help.

Tweezers: Four extremely well worded, insightful and thought provoking short stories, all nicely formatted and wrapped up with the inclusion of the inspirations for each at the end. I like. :D

3. A Hilarious Interview with AdrielRB, Personia and Neutrino

by @X_Death.By.Me_X

Hello and welcome to this hilarious interview of 3 well known forumers Adriel.RBpersonia and Neutrino!

Question one: What is your name?

Adriel.RB: Not adriel.

personia: Spam master Zac, lord of the floods.

Neutrino: Neutrino/Qfu10/Qfu/Neu/Neut/Noobtrino/Multrino/Tofu/Tofu10/Profu69

Tweezers: Lighthearted, funny and with good chemistry between the interviewer and interviewees, this certainly delivers on what the title claims it to be.

4. Containment Breach

by @zaintahir

Containment breach : Part One

Day 0, September 25th, Year 2185

I live on BG-385, on the second floor in apartment D-2 at the colony of Lingering Lina. There are a few hundred people living here. For the sake of privacy, I will refer to everyone in this post with an alias. I'll call myself Gary. I lived with... well let's call him Frank. We shared the apartment together. It was a medium sized apartment, 3 bedrooms, a living room, a small kitchen, a dining room and a small storage room. I started a new life here after graduating. I work in the trading center as a technician, there's also a research lab a about 55 miles east from here. They are off-limits to us colonists, but there aren't many interesting things there, apparently, they are researching a few poisonous plants. Will (again, alias) works there, he's 52 years old. We asked him what goes on up there,  but he simply said that the plants are nothing but boring, just slightly different from your everyday garden plant. He works as a technician there by the way. We asked another employee as well, Adam, but he was extremely drunk. He simply said, "Yeah, a few aliens there, totally wicked".

Tweezers: A gripping story, delivered in short but sweet installments that you just can't get enough of. The language usage may be a little shaky, but is definitely improving. Keep it up!

5. Crime versus Cruelty: Part 2

by @Penguin40

We see a scene opening.

The rebel had killed only one of the two guards, the other shot was to kill a second official who was coming up.

“Bye bye, very big member of the terrorists. Bye!” he laughed. Then he shot the official another four times, before cleaning the mess that his shots had created.

Central Official Road.

The rebel was walking along the pedestrian path on the unusually almost empty road that connected a number of major government buildings. He turned right when the intersection came, before noticing that somebody had eyes on him.

He made his way into a building. A man came up behind him, with two knives and a gun hidden. He too went in, and promptly fell down.

The rebel had knocked him unconscious with a barrel, and then he dragged him into a room nearby, seating him on a chair. He then had him awoken.

“Oh, hello, Tom. I hear you were stalking me? Sorry, you were unsuccessful,” the rebel taunted him.

“How could you do this, br…” the stalker said, but was interrupted.

“I should ask you that. How could YOU aid those corrupt, cruel terrorists and officials that plague the government? I thought my family was infallible, invincible to any attempts of getting them on the dark side! Well. You’re nobody to me. NOBODY!” the rebel replied.

Tweezers: An interesting writing style, with a very visual impact. A lot of fast paced action and dialogue also make for an exciting read, and the little bit of suspense didn't hurt either. Top job!

Project: Adaptabilty - The results!

The long awaited outcome, and a huge thank you from all of us AWC Helpers to everyone who participated!

How to Write a Good Fictional Story

Hello, I_Am_Unkown here, and I will be teaching you how to write a good fictional story. Everyone loves a good story, but what actually makes a story a story?

For starters, you always want to start out with an outline. Remember that each story should have a couple of characters. I often create a tree map, like the one below, to describe all the character’s characteristics.

Treemap.jpg

For example, let’s say one character might make a lot of jokes, while another might be a really fast runner. It could also be anything from, this character is an orphan, while another is a prince or princess. Then put this tree map in a safe place, and use it to remind yourself each of your character’s characteristics as you write the story. Because once you introduce more and more characters, it’ll be harder for you to remember how each on acts and thinks. A bad story will often mix up characters feelings and get the reader confused.

In addition to this, you should also make an outline of the story itself. Remember, each story should have an introduction, or background of the characters, rising action, climax, falling action, and a resolution. These five parts of the story are often referred to the “elements” of the story. Let’s take a look at the five elements of the story in closer detail.

elments_of_a_story.jpg

  1.

  2. Introduction and/or Background of Characters

    1.

    2. In the introduction, you want to possibly start creating suspense. Maybe tease what will come in the story. Perhaps give a small preview of the overall story. The introduction’s purpose is to mainly hook the reader in, to create an interesting heading that will make the reader want to read on. And of course, background of characters. This is very rare, but when an author includes this, it’s well, self explanatory.

    3.
  3.

  4. Rising Action

    1.

    2. Rising Action is one of the most important parts of the story. In this you want to create a problem. Maybe add more characters to the story. Often an author might create a problem that will lead to the next element: The Climax.

    3.
  5.

  6. Climax

    1.

    2. Without a doubt, the climax is my most favorite element. In this element, anything can happen. The problem might be solved, or perhaps it was solved and yet another problem has occurred. Or maybe the problem was solved, but costing a character’s life. In this element, the author usually creates the most suspense. This part is the part in the story that often forces you to read on. Not only is it so hard to STOP reading, but it might also make you want to read under the covers at night!

    3.
  7.

  8. Falling Action

    1.

    2. In the falling action part of the story, we see what’s become of the problem and suspense. This part might not always be in a story, and that’s because the story might not need this element.

    3.
  9.

  10. Resolution

    1.

    2. In this element, this is where the conclusion has occurred. This might be where we see that five years in the future, the world is saved because of the a character did. We see that some characters might get married, or maybe part and never see each other again. Perhaps there might be a cliffhanger as well, that makes you want to yell at the author to hurry up and write the next book. Or perhaps you want to cry at the fact that the series/book has ended. In the resolution, we see the conclusion of the story.

    3.
  11.

Another important factor to writing a good fictional story is that you will want to proofread your work, or maybe get it proofread by somebody other than you. I would highly recommend reading your story out loud because it’s easier to catch mistakes that way. This is a very important part in making your story come alive.

And there you have it! How to write a good fictional story. I Hope this article helps all the creative authors in this world.

I wander round a place, a desolate place near a mountain in southern Russia. And all I see for miles, are mountains and mountains, and snow upon the peaks.

But in summertime, this particular area has a habit of scorching under the heat of the cruel but necessary sun. And so it was, with the heat slowly melting down the snow, even though it was the month of March.

I drive forward to a mountain, a majestic mountain with a cloud of snow upon it, graced with the name of “Mount Freeze”. A lighter, faster tank comes near me, a good friend of mine. He too was wandering with me, exploring the area. I had a few other friends with me, exploring.

“I’d like to climb that mountain, reach that cloud of snow on the top. Like to help?” I tell the friend of mine, famously nicknamed Total Skill. The others hear this, and race to me.

“We will!” they chanted. And I drove on the edge of the mountain, and somehow made it onto a heavier friend of mine. The mountain was fairly easy to climb, and with my medium sized tank, I was able to go far.

But then, I felt the mountain shake beneath me. It started to crack below me, and eventually, it collapsed entirely, with snow and rock everywhere. All of us were damaged or injured, but I learnt a groundbreaking fact - it was no mountain. It was a cover up, and that was why it broke under my weight.

And once I got out of the snow and rock, I saw a majestic sight. A massive, but fairly ruined temple in the center, surrounded by bushes, a road, and what appeared to be a bunch of houses of an ancient, lost civilization.

At once my mind recalled a tale my mother once told me. Of a lost tank civilization, highly advanced in its time, one of in which the population had lived great lives. But they feared invasion by their enemies, and they hid the civilization under a false mountain.

In making the mountain, however, much of the civilization was ruined by an earthquake that took place at that very time. It shook the place, but set the cover up perfectly to cover it. The survivors fled, and a snowfall immediately covered the peak of the mountain.

The ancient relics that they owned, however, formed a cloud of snow upon the mountain. So it was forever disguised under snow.

I immediately realized this was the lost civilization, the Warriors of the Tank Temple Crystal. I drove to a road, and noticed blue and gold crystals everywhere.

Seconds later, I pressed a button, accidentally. A drone appeared, and majestically displayed a mark of gold in the center of the temple. I realized this was the alarm of the Gold Box, one of the lost relics of the civilization.

It came from this civilization, and dropped all over the world. People had learnt to replicate it, but the original one came from here. It was a replica I had gotten, the one about to drop, but it was legendary how the civilization’s magical ways worked it.

I and my lighter friend Skill, raced to the site. The rest of the team left, collecting treasures, but we fought. I pushed him aside, as the box of gold descended upon my tank. It touched my tank, broke, and vanished, giving one thousand crystals to me.

As I leaped in joy, I realized that the crystals in fact belonged to the temple itself. It raised my joy, as I knew that I had a treasure. A treasure of this ruined, ancient land, in the darkness below the mountain.

It gave me a sense of infinite peace, as I knew that I had legendary relics with me. I felt peaceful, free, and joyful.

I witnessed the mark of gold slowly vanishing, and that was the last thing I saw in the temple before I fell into a sleep of peace and freedom. It was the last I saw of the area, for when I woke, I was in my home, knowing I had accomplished a legendary feat by discovering the temple.

STORY

He had to run. A few weeks ago, he had received a letter which had specified that he was at the top of a death list. And not just any death list, no. It was the death list of the Japanese Yakuza gang, made famous by rumours of slow, painful deaths for all who opposed them. So he ran.

The journey was hell, he had to walk, his former life hastily stuffed in a bag slung over his shoulder. He sought friends, but their doors were locked and bolted as soon as he got near. The city was too dangerous, and so he stole a cart and rode out.

A lone cousin, living in the middle of nowhere housed him for a few days, and it was from him that he heard about an ancient hiding place, high in the mountains, many days travel across high, narrow paths, long forgotten by mortals. All that was left was memories; legends passed down by word of mouth from generation to generation. He knew that the gang would hunt him, and his only possible escape would be to go somewhere they didn’t realise existed.

Friendless and alone, he set off. Taking paths as he found them, he journeyed into the mountains. Paying little attention to whether he turned left or right, he stumbled on, one step at a time, ever fearing the gang members ruthlessly pursuing him like hounds. When it rained, he walked. When it was sunny, he marched on. When he was finally high enough up in the mountains, it started to snow. Lightly at first, but in the distance, he could see walls of cloud advancing towards him. He hurried on, and found a small cave where he spent the next few days.

Till now he had been killing and eating what he had found; usually a single rabbit per day, occasionally something larger, but on the 57th day, the 3rd after the cave, the food ran out. With nothing left to kill, he was forced to eat any plants and berries he could find.

On the 62nd day of his journey, he arrived. There was a small cabin hidden by foliage on the side of a mountain. He lived there for years to come, often perching outside the cabin, staring silently into the distance, sometimes watching his would-be killers crossing a bridge many miles away, with no hope of finding him.

A Brief How-To on Artistic Multing

Multing is easy. Extremely easy. All you need to do is take your fat M0 Mammoth that's been gradually collecting dust in the innermost recesses of your garage and park it somewhere in a packed CTF -- preferably in a place that will impede the passage of any teammate. However, this lacks finesse. No artistic genius is needed to sit in one place and attempt to block any passersby who might be trying to contribute to their team. This is mere child's play in comparison spectacular work of an expert mult -- a four-year-old's stick figure in the presence of Monet's. Real multing requires much more skill.

Avoid heavy hulls. Light hulls give manoeuvrability which a skilled mult can use to great effect. A fast mult can annoy twice as many people as a slow mult if he knows what he's doing. If using a heavy hull is unavoidable, take Titan. Its superior pushing power allows it to bulldoze its way through any wall of resistance, often clearing the way straight to a teammate carrying the enemy flag, and allowing you to push him off the edge with ease.

Use annoying turrets. Twins' incessant firing is enough to drive anyone crazy, and the impact force is enough to knock a teammate's aim off. Stick to the Railguns on your team; as they begin to charge their shot, ram them, commence firing, and watch the stream of profanity flood the chat showing that your artistic talents have been recognised.

Do not use M0's. It's a common misconception that adept mults should use M0's in the battles they join. The stereotypical mult combo of Mammoth/Isida M0 is often incorrectly assumed to be the epitome of multness. However, part of becoming a good mult is acquiring the ability to not be seen as a mult. How will this be achieved if the combo you're using is the embodiment of what you're attempting to stay away from? It won't work. Use decent equipment -- neither too flashy nor too crummy.

Here ends my short lesson on multing. Hopefully, this has changed your mind on certain aspects of this noble art and has made you aware of the correct ways to go about engaging in it.
