Ups: I can post anonymously. You can communicate with your friends, find interesting articles, buy stuff.

Downs: many trolls, people who think they can say whatever they want, pervs, and now the internet has become a weapon to terrorists, human trafficking, drugs, illegal weapons, animals, black market etc.

Just a few "mainstream" mentions

 

Ups: made this earth a global village; communicate with people on the north pole while sitting on a PC on the south pole easily(and yes both north and south poles have internet and residents, obviously !!), purchase goods online, rise of online business(made stock exchange feasible and much safer & easier), easy to attain knowledge of pretty much anything and everything.

 

Downs: very easy to get addicted to.. whether it's getting addicted to games or social media, acknowledge things not appropriate for a certain age, forget playing outside.. Tanki Online is love, life, wife, bride, pride; it's where I reside..

Yep, I'm pretty sure you have to sign in to the wifi and they gain your access through he wifi router. They can find your pass codes. This happens in air ports, restarants, and random free wifi, so don't think that your getting free wifi, because the person paying for it wants benefits

Downs: Hackers, Keyloggers, Viruses, Worms, Trojans, Tricksters, Trackers, Hijackers, Bugs outside the realm of Viruses (Fungus?), Card readers.

 

For as good as you think your antivirus is and for as good as you think your firewall is, there's a hacker out there who has already written a hack for it and is just waiting for the right time to pounce. 

 

Even if your credit card is in you wallet or purse and neatly tucked away, it can still be hacked (read) without you knowing it. Don't become a victim.

Net neutrality - anybody is able to upload something to the web for everybody to access. Information is absolutely free and nobody can prevent you from accessing something unless it is unlawful.

 

Knowledge - The Internet allows people to access almost unlimited knowledge about every possible subject.

 

Communication - People can communicate instantly across the world, making the Earth seem small.

 

Downs:

Widespread false information - sometimes it is hard to distinguish right from wrong, and because of this many people start believing in false information.
