Move while in Chat

Recommended Posts

How do you propose the game would differentiate between WASD being used for movement and WASD being used for typing?

Changing every single letter key to a number/symbol.

And what if you want to type numbers/symbols?

I don't understand jokes, ok?

I'm curious- how many players use these controls?

Most. Even if they don't use WASD, they will use ZXC instead, not to mention that keys 123456, shift, +, -, V, R, F and G are also used in chat, so there's just no way to allow typing and movement at the same time without the two clashing somehow.

The goal is not for players to be able to chat while in a full-out drug duel.

Rather, visualize yourself driving to the flag, or to a sniping position- you only need the arrow keys.  Or they can type a word while retreating behind a corner, etc.

I don't think this is necessary. It's complicated and not user-friendly, yet it caters to a very narrow audience and doesn't bring that much benefit. I mean, how much time are you really going to save by typing with one hand while driving, compared to stopping and typing the same thing with two hands? And just imagine all the negativity Tanki will get if they release this. Everyone will complain that instead of doing an actual useful update, they wasted time on some weird feature that's not even comfortable to use.

By the way, you still didn't really explain how to solve the controls clash problem. Don't forget that arrow keys are also used to navigate text, and like I said above, some people use WASD instead of arrows to move.
