Penalize retreat from game (cowardness)

It wasn't a typo, and wow, I did not realise it was that bad... That needs fixing asap if you ask me.

Need to find a way to encourage players to stay in a battle rather than discouraging them from leaving for real reasons.

That's easy enough.

 

Just have a "longevity" award that goes to players on the losing team who stay for the entire game.  You'd want to factor in the individual score as well, because one of the more frustrating experiences in Tanki (besides all the bugs) is being the best player on a losing team.  And maybe that's all we need.  Just double the score of the top player on the losing team.  Give the second-best player half of that.  The next, half again.  If you have someone who joins in the last minute, they're not going to get much.  If they start the game but leave, they get nothing, same as now.  But if they join and stick around for the whole game, they double their individual score.

 

There are other ways to promote finishing games.  Maybe a flat 1000 crystal bonus that you get after you play 5 games in which your team lost, but you played the entire game?  

 

It's really the huge discrepancy in team bonus that is irritating.  After you see that your score on the winning team is worth 500 crystals, but on the losing team it's only 97, you begin to wonder why you didn't just quit as soon as it looked like your team was going to underperform.  From there, it's only a small step to an all-round philosophy (which I've adopted pending some change to the current mess) of always doing whatever I can to be on the "winning" team - even if that means ditching a losing team and joining a different battle. [Personally, I think that approach kind of sucks, but it's the choice that Tanki is reinforcing.]
