btw is there html 5 client for tanki yet?

Yes, for quite some time now. You can download the official TO HTML5 client from here (or here, in case you're a Mac user).

These are my specs.

Spoiler

I use the browser. HTML5 crashes every time I run it. Is it my system or is HTML5 unstable? Also, I downloaded the client twice. It never ran.

@Stratosphere.

Can you also provide the following?

  • OS version (e.g. Windows XP, 7, 8, etc)
  • Graphics card
  • Browser and version
  • Check if your browser supports/has WebGL2 enabled here: https://webglreport.com/?v=2

Since I am not too comfortable with downloading programs/software/etc. in general, I want to ask if the client-version is worth downloading. To what extent is the TO-client better in performance than the internet-version? How do other players experience the client?

Tanki Online runs on Flash technology. In the near future, Adobe will stop updating Flash, because "open standards like HTML5 have matured over the past several years, most now provide many of the capabilities and functionalities that plugins pioneered and have become a viable alternative for content on the web". Now that it's possible to run games on HTML5 technoligy, Tanki Online is moving towards HTML5. Upon entering the game, some players access the game through HTML5 at random. Because the HTML5 version of the game is still in a testing phase, not everything runs smoothly yet.

Recently, a lot of players have created topics about things like "How can I play Tanki on Flash again?". I created this topic to address that question. The answer to playing Tanki on Flash is simple. Just use this link to access the game: https://tankionline.com/battle-en.html?flash=true

Do you want to try out the HTML5 version instead? Use this link.

Complete list of links

Note that the old-HTML5 version (one that visually resembled Flash) is no longer available.

If you are noticing any issues with the HTML5 version, don't hesitate to share them in this topic along with the operating system and video-card you are using!

And where is the mobile version?!

No-HTML5-Firefx.jpg

I did a little research. As of December 2018, Edge, Chrome, and Firefox were considered good and comparable. Each as good as the other, with Firefox being the most compliant for HTML5. So, I installed Firefox. You can see the result above.

HTML5 is slow and many graphical features do not function. Totally unplayable in Firefox, much worse than Opera.

I'm being redundant, but the HTML version of Tanki will not try to load in IE, and it stalls at the load screen in Edge.

That looks a lot like Flash...

Seems like WebGL2, a new technology required for the HTML5 version to run, is disabled on your browser. Here's a handy guide to enabling it: https://www.interplaylearning.com/help/how-to-enable-webgl-in-chrome

Thank you! I will try it and see if it works. Also, do we need graphics card to play on HTML5?

An integrated card is fine, may be a bit less efficient though. However, I'd recommend downloading the HTML5 client instead and seeing if it works. If it does work then you'll know that there's something off in your browser (try enabling WebGL). If it doesn't work, then your computer is most likely not technically capable of running the HTML5 version. Additionally, the HTML client has the ability to detect whether you have an integrated card and deal with this as efficiently as possible (only client can detect this; browser cannot).

Also, the HTML5 version requires a bare minimum of an Intel I3 processor, though an I5-7 is recommended. I'm not sure whether your computer physically has enough processing power when combined with having to support an integrated GPU alongside the game (the HTML5 version on browser is not kind to computers with an integrated GPU).

Here's a complete list of specifications:

Spoiler

Minimum System Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 7/8/10, Mac OS X 10.5.8+, Linux
  • Processor: Intel® Core i3
  • RAM: 2048 MB
  • Graphics Card: 256 MB
  • Broadband Internet connection
  • Internet Connection Speed: 256 Kbps

Recommended System Requirements

  • Operating System: Windows 10, Mac OS X 10.5.8+, Linux
  • Processor: Intel Core i5-i7 4th generation or better
  • RAM: 4096 - 8192 MB
  • Graphics Card: 2048 MB or more
  • Broadband Internet connection

  • Thanks 1
