Old Man Logan: Ageless

Ageless

Dear reader, please note that this is a completely different timeline from my last timeline. The events of this have nothing to do with that previous story. All the superheroes left are the not so strong ones as the ones such as Dr. Strange and Hulk are off-world and not contactable.

The sun was setting as Logan sat in his chair, observing the glimmering lake and the animals coming out. Logan had retired from the X-men and just wanted to be left alone, which perhaps explained why he was literally in the middle of nowhere. He had had lots of fights with people, but none worse than his last fight with Magneto, due to which Logan had lost his adamantium and most of his healing factor. His peace was interrupted by the sound of engines, followed by a brief thump. As Logan got up, he walked to the stairs of his small cottage and there stood a helicopter.

“Glad to know you’re still alive Logan!”

“Yeah, me too. What do you want? I assume it’s some government related problem.”

“Well.. yeah. How did you know?”

“A random stranger tracks me to the middle of nowhere, comes in a helicopter and with soldiers. Don’t you think it's clear that the Canadian government screwed up something?”

“Great, then you know why I’m here!”

“Not exactly. I didn’t catch your name. Who are you?”

“I’m Anderson. Now, the exact problem is this. So we were trying to retire you by creating a weapon twelve, and giving it lots of skills… Including your talent at recovering from injuries and your razor-sharp claws. A mole inside the research development team activated this weapon twelve and also removed our control over it.”

“So you when you say “retire” me, you mean to say your plan was to kill me off and then use your latest weapon to get stuff done?”

“Yes. Now the thing is, we weren’t just planning to kill you. If weapon twelve had worked out, we were going to kill off Deadshot, Punisher, Daredevil, and Cyclops too.”

“Right. So you want me, a mutant with very little of his mutations left, to help you out by fixing your problem which had the goal of killing me?”

“Yes Mr. Logan, that’s correct. It’s not fixing my problem. Once weapon twelve starts to understand what it can do, there’ll be no one who can stop it from trying to destroy the world. We can only take it down while it hasn’t discovered all of its abilities.”

“That’s great! So exactly what use would you have for a 50-year old man, with an almost useless healing factor and claws which can’t even stop a knife?”

“That’s what I wanted to tell-”

“Come on out boys! Anderson and his pet are here!” a tall man yelled. Within seconds, Logan’s house was infested with soldiers. Logan put his head in his hands and knelt on the floor.

“What are you doing?!”

“I know this is a test Anderson, you ain’t fooling me.” Logan heard a gun cock.

“Logan! This isn’t a test! These men are here to kill you and me! I’m not testing you!”

“A test? Logan, do you think I would “Test” you by getting my worst enemy here to kill us?!”

“He thinks that I’m a test?! No Logan. I’m no test. I’m your death.”

“Don’t you know? I can heal from death.”

“Yeah, not this time.” The man waved his hand at his soldier. The soldier brought him a sword and the man delicately pulled it out. “You see, I have the Masumura blade. It’s the one object that can kill you.” The man raised his sword. “Any last words Wolverine?” Before Logan could respond, the blade came down on his head. Logan extended his claws last minute and blocked the strike.

“Yeah. Don’t EVER call me Wolverine again.” After saying that, Logan pushed off the man and proceeded to viciously attack the soldiers; stabbing, slashing and hacking. Once Logan was done, blood coated the once green leaves and human remains decorated the trees and the floor.

“Alright, lesson learned. Never call you Wolverine.”

“Good then. I guess you’ve brought me back to this hell.”

“I have no healing factor and my claws can’t even stop a knife. I'm also 50 years old.” Anderson mocked Logan.

“I think we’re gonna get along very well, Anderson.”

Thanks Tweezers! Mind if I ask what grammar corrections you made if you don't mind?

They were really minor stuff, usually just slightly wonky phrasings and the like. Nothing a quick self-proofing couldn't fix.

I see. I do feel that sometimes my message is slighlty convoluted. Any solutions?

Read it out to yourself once you've written it. If it sounds unnatural or too complicated or vague, you'll notice it when you read.
