I'm glad to see this happening!

Good initiative and great improvement compared to how things were before when you wanted me to write for the newspaper but I couldn't do it without becoming an official reporter. I hope this initiative will be successful and we'll all enjoy the collaboration of the community with the newspaper :D

^This. The AWS is open to everyone :). Even if your rank is too low to post in the section, you can shoot an AWS helper a PM and ask them to publish it for you. Get writinggg!

You can submit an article by starting a new topic. Put all the information you have wrote in this new topic. If it reaches the AWG guidelines:http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=316961, then it will be in the AWG section when approved. If your not sure how it should look like, check the newspaper. I know this isn't the intended feeling to get from a topic like this, but I feel like it might be a letdown or insult to not have your article chosen to be part of the Newspaper. Perhaps the quota is very low or the standards are very high, as those would make it more of a privilege to be chosen as opposed to an insult for not. Also, if a lot of articles are chosen, it seems like the AW section might go down in quality if the best are chosen and the rest left behind.

 

Clarification please: Is this a major change to the AWS? Or is this just an addition to the already existing structure?

 

Either way, a potentially nice initiative. Hope it goes well.

As a past Reporter and AWS helper, I feel equipped to answer all your questions. This is a change to AWS, but not a major one; in the past, it was articles of outstanding quality that sometimes got the nod to go into the paper, but it was not a fundamental part of AWS until now. I can also guarantee that this is not designed to make you feel bad about not getting in. I have known Flexnug since he was here in AWS, and I know all the other current reporters, none want you to feel bad about your writings, but instead, we want to push you to become a better writer.

 

Finally, your point of AWS going down in quality. We have had 12 people from the AWS section go onto becoming Reporters/ Wiki Editors, and the AWS is still going strong because there is always new talent coming in that will begin to rise to the top. In fact, I'd even go as far as to say that the quality could go up, because people will be striving to hit the standards to be in the newspaper (and getting the crystal reward), and want to surpass it, forcing the overall quality to increase. As it is, the Reporter standards are very high, and there are many great articles that will still fall short of the bar, but that is what keeps this section alive.

You should be completely fine, while I was an AWS helper, we had articles in french and we got other reporters or community members who speak french to edit those.

Yeah, like there's any chance I'll ever see my article there.  Nobody reads my AWS writing, so why should the reporters bother??????

There's always a chance, but it might come later after some experience and work on perfectioning your own writing style. You just have to move on from the loses and try to analyze what the readers like and prefer, what formats they enjoy the most, try to find fresh topics that have never been talked about etc. And also do not rush into it. Take your time, look at the article you wrote and look what can be made better and edit, edit and edit.
