You can now send instant messages to your friends in battles!

So I'm not sure how many people realised this when today's update was released (I sure didn't, until someone told me), but you can now basically send messages to your friends when they're in battle.

By giving a custom name to a battle, you can invite your friend(s) to it and they will see the custom name in the invitation window. That way you can send them any short custom message, such as:

Potential applications of this include:

  • Create a battle with a custom name "Gold rain", "Rank-up", "Clan training" etc. and your friends will know what you're inviting them to.
  • Create a private battle with the message you want to send as the title and invite your friend to it. For example: "Hi, come talk to me in chat", "Get on skype" or "Don't miss the clan training", etc.
  • Create a private battle with a mssage, invite your friend to it and then invite them to an already existing battle, e.g. create a random battle titled "Let's takeover a Poly CP", invite your friend to it, then invite them to the actual battle you want them to join, which will have a standard name.

Obviously this isn't perfect, since you can't send a custom message when inviting to an already existing battle and the message length is very short. But it's still better than nothing :P

They probably forgot, what with creating the new paints and all.

No, its not a new feature, its something Maf discovered you can do.

So Maf, do we get invites to the rank-up or not? :D

The battle link is hidden in a secret code in the Wiki. He added it before he left and became a Forum Admin. I heard this from a very reliable source.

If I were to get an invite and I'm presently on a winning team, can I say something like, "I'm winning" then hit the decline button?

Unfortunately, no. If you're in a battle, you can only invite your friend to your battle, so the only "message" he will get is the name of the battle you are in.

This is nice and all but why did you stamped a 'completed' mark on the dedicated topic in ideas and suggestions?

OP opted for custom messages along with the battle invite.

Because otherwise the idea won't be implemented at all due to limitations of the game engine.

Only 3 messages/ min

True, but you only really need to send someone one message in order to tell them that you want them to come to your battle or talk to then in chat.

They lied if they said that to you.

There are scripts for text and window boxes. I'm pretty sure the underlying code for sending gifts is very similar.

They didn't lie. They said it a while ago, so it's entirely possible that during that time a lot has changed and things previously considred impossible have now become possible. That being said, I doubt that we'll get better system for communicating with friends in battles.
