Hope and Disappointment

Hope.

Tangible yet intangible, there but not there.  Always accompanying me before birthdays, Christmas, the first day of school, even the mere opening of a handful of containers.

With its power, it brings me to giddy heights, worlds beyond my wildest dreams, gliding up higher than I can ever imagine.  Soaring unbounded, unleashed, free.

In the blink of an eye, everything stops, and I fall faster than I've risen.  The realm which I've visioned crumbles in my sight.  I will my eyes to stay open, but they don't.

Once they open, I see that I'm below ground, darkness closing in on me.

Reality.

There is no hope.

Only Disappointment.

***

Disappointment.

Intangible yet tangible, not there but there.  It comes right after I see reality: on birthdays, Christmas, the first day of school, after the opening of all those containers.

With a deft movement of the wrist, it wrenches Hope, strangling the life out of it until all of it drains away.  Hope is gone, defeated.

I've fallen to the ground and below, seen the darkness swallow up every particle of light.

But one remains.

Hope.

That is why I never linger in Disappointment.

For I will go.

Back.

To.

Hope.

And it will be waiting until I return.

Wrote this piece before school started.  A disappointing year is upon me as I see 5 more sophomores in AP Calc.  P.S. we have a test and I haven't studied (which I ended up getting a B+ on) and now we have another test.  Great, and I have to read my history textbook, at a relatively "slow" pace of 1 chapter a week.  And we're not talking about how my music teacher treats my section as chopped liver.  I must leave; too much schoolwork to attend to.  Enjoy these contrasting tales!

Wonderfully written! While it is quite short in length, the excellent imagery more than made up for it. I didn't spot any grammar mistakes (probably because I was in a bit of a rush), so I assume that if I missed something I'll be promptly notified.

A very fluid rhythm and a good beginning that managed to hook me in. I don't know what you were going for, but this reads to me like a beginning of a series or maybe not, it's up to you. You have the hook, you have your imagery and you have a suspenseful-ish ending. Overall, the story elements are there, what happens from there is up to your imagination. Or you can just leave it like that and start something new.

This article proves that you are really good at expressing your thoughts. I hope you write more like this.

Could have been long and elaborate, though.

In 13 days, you've had over 60 hits and (including this one) six replies. Well, five, since one was yours.

Well then why nobody read this?????????

Do you seriously have to have me get a good title for you to actually venture in and read my stuff or am i just plain horrible?!?!

Dude, you need to adjust your expectations if you think this is nobody. You're in a tiny subforum of a game that's dedicated to tanks, not writing. You have more views than Chapter 3 of my Molly's series, which posted 2 days before this article. Try to have a little perspective!

What you write is an art. It may or may not be appreciated much, but that doesn't deteriorate its quality or beauty. I don't feel I would have been able to think what you have nor could I have accomplished what you have.

Commercial movies earn much, but that does not mean art movies have no significance.

^that and that one by our dear tankiverse writer from Hawaii.

Anyways. Your stuff is already more popular than much of my oldest work, even including those from my old account, and those stories are about as old as AWS! Don't care about views, ok?

Stories seem to be a bit niche anyways, unless comedic or romantic. Humor, interviews, guides etc are more popular, but don't try. You're great at stories, keep it up!

Well, more people seem to like your article Hippin, since they actually comment instead of me spamming stupid and useless comments.

They don't.

Twee does, occasionally, but he's a really avid fan of Hippin's. I haven't seen any other regular posters on his stories, bar maybe me. But i post on virtually every story that comes out now...
