Flower Poem

Once I had a friend, a true freak of nature,

Sharp ears, eagle eyes and a hulk in real life.
Unstoppable he was, or so he thought,
Eventually he died, from what he didn't expect.

"Alcohol won't kill me, I'll kill the alcohol" he used to quote,

Until his organs started malfunctioning and he would realise,
That there'd be a contradicton on what his gravestone would write:
"Alcohol won't kill me, I'll kill the alcohol" his catchphrase quote,
Followed by none other than "but unfortunately alcohol took his life."

Visiting his grave, I noticed pretty flowers planted where he was buried,
Wondering if there was a meaning, was it showing how he would live eternally?

That he had became a new form of life and his atoms has simply been rearranged?
Or were they to show how he was like the flowers, shine in glory but still die anyway.

It is quite short, if you want to submit poems to the AWS, they should either be quite a bit longer, or you can submit multiple at once since AWS has a 400 word minimum for articles.

Yes, it is meant as minimum. Rephrased.

 

If it is the first entry from the author, we tend to approve it if it is good enough. If the word minimum has not been reached we let him know that in his next entry he should go over the minimum number of words.

I think there should be an exception for poems honestly. Long poems aren't everyones cup of tea, and writing more than one in a short period of time can be draining. Sometimes you have some form of inspiration but it's not always enough to milk 400 words worth of content out of.  :wacko:

 

 

the poem was good. glad you didn't try to shoehorn rhymes in, it flowed well enough without and kept your attention on the message. Felt like there were a couple areas that could be worded differently to allow for smoother reading, but some of that is more subjective so whatever floats your boat I guess lol.

Nice poem! Luckily it hasn't been archived, as I usually don't check the archive unless there's a part of a series in there...

As kais said, I liked the dark-ish humor in the poem, and the wonderful message you delivered via this poem.
