Newspaper's Weekly Question - Final Week

Recommended Posts

The use of "longest running" is an English expression currently used and understood, see this example: longest-running-tv-shows-all-time

uum... you do realise that your example judges those series by the number of years? and a year is a unit of measurement for time?

my answer is the longest because it lasted over a period of more than 5 years.

I do know that the length of a series can be determined. However, their length is judged by their timespan and not number of episodes or issues.

so when he asked for the "longest running series" the longest one should be the one that lasted over the longest period of time.

Unfortunately no, only the accumulation of episodes over the years counts, not the numbers of years. 2 episode over 10 years do not make it the longest running, it makes only a 2 episodes long serie. 10 episodes in one year beats 2 episodes in 10 years. The longest running serie mean the one with the highest number of episodes ran, no more no less. Of course the longer the serie runs the more years it will cover, so there is a easy short cut to do by only counting years as long as there is not too many gaps when nothing happened. The articles made theses short cuts, easier than bother to count the number of episodes (which are over 10k episodes for some).

all this... how they count and all... you know how? your imagination? I'm sorry but they clearly ranked them according to number of years and not episodes.

and here is your definition. TIME.

thank you very much. and as we all know, a season may consist of an indefinite number of episodes but always consists of all episodes within a particular timeframe in a year. like all the episodes from march on one year to january for it's following year.

so again, it's time and not number of episodes.

I know that americans have a different way of counting their seasons in tv series but flexoo usually speaks british english so

A particular programme does a season of 3 months and then does the next one after 5 years. The seasons got counted, not the five years. The proof I gave above. Take it according to your intelligence. ^_^

yeah that is american. for british, one season is always from a certain date to another certain date for each year. so it's still a matter of time and not quantity. during that 3 month "season" there could have been 5 episodes or 500 episodes, yet regardlessly, it stil gets counted as 1 "season" (even though in british it doesn't) as i have already said, flexoo usually speaks in british english. according to my intelligence you... have got some serious problems with yours.

The proof I gave above.

this is the page google took your results from. as you can see #3 has 21 more episodes than #2... explain that? simple, because #2 lasted over a longer period of time. 10 more days to be exact.

so there we have it. what decides the ranking is timespan rather than episode count. because despite #3 having 21 more episodes, it got ranked lower than another show which lasted over a timespan 10 days longer

The list you provided is ordered(descending), primarily based on number of seasons. Length(time span) is secondary.  If length was the main criteria, how to explain Family Guy (21+ yrs) ranked below Lassie (16+ yrs). There are few other such instances in the list.

Besides, the list can be ordered by length or number of seasons or first air date, or number of episodes etc. Time span is not universal criteria. It appears how one orders is purely contextual.

So we can think of "The Dictator" series has more number of seasons than "If the English Community" series. If both had same number of seasons, then perhaps the time span comes into picture.

Also note, #3 is 456 episodes and not 656.

you just said that it's contextual... and now you decide that number of seasons comes before timespan?

yes, that was my mistake but... you can apply what i said to #6 and #7 and viola, length does not equal to number of episodes unlike what those clowns are saying

in any case, that list is for american shows, and for them, one season can be any timespan and any amount of episodes.

however, for british, the language flexoo speaks... one season is always one year (but any amount of episodes). so more seasons will alwyas mean more years and thus more time.

I honestly don't see how americans can't seem to understand that it is not their language we are using here and their country is not the only country in the world. i already told him that we are speaking english here so whatever absurd stuff from his country has no bearing here. so they have a funny way of measuring temperature and distance and seasons and he wants me to "take it according to my intelligience" yeah i don't think so.  I don't use it, we are not speaking in his language, so he can keep his national stupidity to himself

tldr english is the language used here so whatever terms used here have to be interpreted in english. some american interprets it differently with his language is not my problem. in english 1 season is 1 year but it doesn't have a definite number of episodes. so when you count by season you count by years and not number of episodes

english is not my language but i use it to interpret the question in english.. if he can use his language to interpret it can i use monegasque to do it? or is that only a priviledge for them because they can only speak one language

Alrighty, let's recap.

The Dictator
32 editions - 4 years and 6 months
Last  Feb 2019
First [25] August 2014

If the English Community was ...
8 editions - 5 years and 2 months
Last  Oct 2017
First [issue 5] Aug 2012

What Map?
22 editions 6 years and 3 months
Last [79] July 2018
First [01] April 2012

Last[79] July 2018

The question did not says if contest were article or not, nor did specified that contest are out, so i have added "What map?" as it would then fit.

The longest running in term of years  is "What map?".

The longest running in term if editions is "The dictator".

I, myself, was puzzled when reading the question. Do contest are included? Number of years or number of edition?

My own experience is based on longest-running series which implies continuing for a long time: numerous episodes, still running, and with little time gap in between. Unfortunately all the newspaper series have more or less a significant time gap at some point. The latest to publish was The Dictator with a total of 32 editions. As I discarded the contest, in my opinion The dictator was the most likely answer (but still my best guess).

I think that the Question was somehow too vague open to interpretation. And that The players who actually answered with "What map?" or "If the com.." should be considered for a reward.

However the way that one speak to other should some how be penalised: either be disqualified (in the worse case scenario) or should receives half the in tilted reward (it is only a game after all.). You can take my reward and redistribute if is necessary.

Just my thought.

what map? is not a series because it doesn't continue from one issue to another.

and now what's the definition of long running? yeah that's right

I9iY8f5ZCV0.jpg

lasting for a long time or continuing for a long time. they didn't say anything about number of articles so i don't see any reason to even take that statistic into account. the only statistic that should be taken into account would be timespan.

Indeed, it is as contextual as the list "YOU" provided. Nothing else. Not my decision. I simply adhered to the sorting rules in the list you provided.

As I understand, You are saying, Flexoo being British, 'The Question' in question implied 'time span' as the criteria because that's how the Brits do it.

Maybe, someone(Mr.F***oo) found an American gf and she is teaching him new tricks.  :D

I do not support this idea of penalizing. There are already forum rules in place and one can direct the 'unacceptable' text to forum mods and let them decide.

I usually do not support rude behavior but in this case I feel inclined towards this guy (ZloyDanuJI). I really hope Flexoo is on vacation or sick or something. IF NOT, then it appears he is simply ignoring and nobody likes to be ignored. Do you? An organizer of contest should come forward and explain his answer (if asked) and put his foot down. That's that.  It does not matter what I say or what you say. The organizer is the final authority.

I think that the Question was somehow too vague open to interpretation. And that The players who actually answered with "What map?" or "If the com.." should be considered for a reward.

So, according to you, If "What map?" and "if the com.." should be considered for a reward along with "The Dictator" , then I would like my answer "In the Beginning, Tanki" to be considered too.

REFERENCE: "In the Beginning, Tanki" which would eventually become the longest series to date, TankiWIKI. History of Newspaper.

My answer was not considered even though it matches word to word with the question and seems most appropriate. However, I accepted it and moved on. But Just in case, I don't want to be the one left behind for lack of fighting spirit.  :)

So here goes nothing. My explanation for objections to my answer.

Some have objected that, 'that referee tankiwiki is outdated'. I ask, how the hell am I supposed to know that. I reference 'tankiwiki' all the time, for MUs, Drones, Alterations, Challenges and it looks like they are doing great job maintaining it up to date. So how on earth would I know that this particular page is out of date?

Some others have objected that, 'I should have sought 2nd source'. Really? This is not a global question that has hundred's of references to cram through. As far as I know, tanki realm has only two (tankiwiki and tankiforum) and I stumbled upon the answer in one of them. How is it my fault?

So what do I finally want?
Very simple. In the words of (in)famous ZloyDanuJI.

.... I am the one who answered it correctly 1st so give me my reward.

PS: Some of the stuff is an attempt at humor. No offense. But seriously, give me my reward, dude.    :P  :D

well.. not exactly but more or less..

I was saying that because the questions were asked in british english, we should interpret it in british english.

that american who asked me to interpret it the way his weird people uses their own version of the language (among other things) should get out of my face. because there is no reason i should interpret the question in other languages that the questions aren't asked with.

for british, 1 season is one year so measuring in seasons is measuring time. also, 1 season can be any amount of episodes so measuring in seasons isn't measuring total quantity.

but i think you probably did understand me anyways

Lol. FYI, I'm no American. Thank You. Such a pitiful display of low intelligence by a sore loser... If you wanted to convey a point you wouldn't have to violate the rules of the game by trying to offend the people of a particular community.

It's really exhausting to see you cry. But don't worry, someone will change your nappy soon. I expect some more crying and yelling below, but I wouldn't be seeing that. So, yeah. Keep struggling with your intelligence. You really deserved to be thrown out of the army.

Expecting some raging below.

Expecting some raging below.

nah, yours was already enough for the both of us. let's see.. crying about my intelligence, about my past, about me losing etc pretty much bring up everything irrelevant to the topic or already so obvious to everyone just so you make yourself feel better cause you really need to. yep, that's enough raging for everyone here in fact.

to think you said you could convey a point without offending the community... yet here you are trying to offend me with stuff competely irrelevant. at least i conveyed my point while offending you. you didn't even convey anything and fail to offend me. and don't deny that you weren't offended, you're not the kind write a whole post and use 89 words in it to try and insult someone.

had you really been american then at least it would be understandable for you to think like one. to think you're not actually one but somehow confused their way of counting seasons with the way of the language of the question was asked in... you must really have some problems comprehending the world around you.

why do you spell "utilise" as "utilize" and "immobilise" as "immobilize" if you aren't american? you used "utilize" 4 times and "immobilize" 1 time right here. http://en.tankiforum.com/index.php?showtopic=380038&do=findComment&comment=6690732
