Micro upgrade and speed up discounts are basically pointless

Recommended Posts

Typical discounts give 25% off micro upgrades and 50% off speed ups if I remember correctly, but during the ONE DAY that they were on sale for TO's 10 year birthday, there was 50% off for micro upgrades and 75% off for speed ups.

Here's the thing though.

If you waited for this discount, of these two things, to fully micro upgrade something from zero micro upgrades, you would have been duped, because speed ups always cost x2 the actual micro upgrade, meaning that if you were to normally micro upgrade something and wait till the day count finishes, you would have overall spent the exact same amount. You could leave the last upgrade to go through and not speed it up, which would be saving around 90k crystals, but at the same time, most of the micro upgrades still required you to speed them up just to get here, meaning this would not save you much at all.

Waiting a month to micro upgrade something gradually vs doing it instantly is not a huge difference in time when you expend the exact same crystals overall and you're going to play this game for months, if not years ultimately. There is just not a good way to take advantage of the discount other than getting to max upgrades just a little bit faster for no discernible reason.

So you wait for the discount to spend crystals, or you instantly, gradually do the same thing, and the expense is really the exact same. What is even the point of the discount? I think for it to actually be useful to players, micro upgrade and speed up discounts would need to either:

1. last at least a week or so

2. at least be even more discounted, with like 90% off for both, or

3. have speed ups be removed for the entire day (this imo would be the most favorable option)

But I doubt AG would change discounts for micro upgrades/speed ups to anything like this.

You could micro upgrade things slowly and micro upgrade your entire garage once or twice during the sales, but the problem is that it would then take decades for you to actually fully micro upgrade stuff in the end.

Discounts on other things are useful because they work in a way that if you buy something with a 25% or 50% discount, you will have saved crystals for the purchase, because it's a single one that has no wait times or speed ups of any kind getting in the way.

And remember this was with the TO's 10-year celebration discounts. With the typical 25% off for micro upgrades and 50% off for speed ups, you would get to pay x1.75 the amount if you just regularly upgrade, meaning that during micro upgrade and speed up discounts, you would have ultimately spent more crystals than you would if you just regularly wait out the speed ups from upgrading normally.

I thought it was common knowledge that 50/70 discounts are not cheaper than gradual upgrades. Yes, you don't save crystals when upgrading everything at once, but what you do save is time. And time is pretty important. First of all, it allows you to get the upgrades faster, meaning that your tank will become more powerful sooner and you will ultimately get more rewards. Also, it removes that feeling of impatience you get when you're waiting for upgrades to finish without speed-ups and they just seem to take forever.

During any MU discount I would recommend to most players to always buy one upgrade step on every single item they have (or every item they plan on upgrading) and then potentially continue buying upgrade steps (without speed-ups) on their favourite items even if there is no discount.

May be, but if you're going to play for a long time regardless, you should be prepared to wait regardless. It's not like it's going to take half a year for all of it to finish. I just checked and it would be roughly 3 months to micro upgrade all for M3 - M4, but it really doesn't matter, point still stands.

It doesn't save time if you are saving up crystals for a micro upgrade discount the next time and then spending it all on it. By the time the next discount like this one comes around for micro upgrades, plenty of players could have and would have micro upgraded a lot of their stuff to full or near full already. That's why the discounts are almost completely pointless. You're not saving time, you're just making it seem like you're saving time, when the entire time you've been waiting regardless.

I got an m3 turret and hull that I MU simultaneously, so waiting for a sale is pretty important for me now.

Good point, but you know that it's going to take forever for a sale to come through, right? And you are only going to be able to get 1 - 2 micro upgrades in during a sale because it lasts only a day. You will take forever to micro upgrade everything from M3 to M4, to a point where you might as well just micro upgrade now and get extra crystals over time with more firepower.

It was a cold July night the knights were on the door. We had no escape nowhere to go life seems to be ended here. Then came the micro-upgrades.

Pointless? Read the topic

There r two types of MUers one that MUs m2 to m3 at m2 rank. Other MUs M1 to M2 at M2 rank. Know the difference!

For drones it's more than that

in Tanki birthday, I have drone at MU level 15/20.

I have choice to

1. spend 420,000 crystal to mu from 15/20 to 20/20 at 50%+70% sale except last step of speedup

2. spend 39,000 crystal to mu to 16/20, and use crystal to buy other m3 or module or drone.

the difference of spending 420,000 all at one 50%+70% sale, or 310,000~332,000 crystal in multi 25%-30% sale,

- you only save around 100,000 crystal

- you need to wait 3 month instead of 16 days

for me, get my drone to M4 like 3 month ahead means you enjoy more during that 3 month, and 100,000 crystal is only a 1 week effort for legend level.

so well worth it for legend,

------------------

actually I only bought 1 step, and use rest crystal to buy modules MU, alternation, other drones.

as you will need save crystal for new gun, it is not like you will stop playing after 3 month.

tanki will keep Poping new item, new hull for you to buy, even you earn 100,000 crystal per week, you still feel short of crystal any way.

For me spending the extra crystals is worth it compared to the waiting times. Most commonly to buy a hull/turret and M4 it within the same sale.

I don't get very much crystals before sales unless I get super lucky with normal containers and get 25k crystals out of one or higher.

Back in 2017 my crystal earnings were around 100k a month somehow, well I played more back then. There weren't any containers back in mid 2017 days.

Back in 2018 my crystal earnings were about 120k a month, I played less but I got lucky often.

Nowadays my earnings are about 60k max. I don't play much longer than the time I need to finish my missions. And I'm not as lucky as I used to be.

The wait time for micro upgrading all at once during a sale is included between sales, because they are rare and 50% + 75% sales are so rare that you might as well just micro upgrade gradually now and see yourself get M4s much earlier regardless. That's why I think something like speedups should be removed for a whole day of the discounts to let you save crystals while simultaneously getting MUs faster. Then the discount would actually have good worth to it, something that you do not want to miss. Could encourage more players to buy crystals for the micro upgrades too, tbf.

That's a good idea. You should post it in I&S.

However instead of removing speed up, it can just be right next to the upgrade button, so that if someone wants to get all 20 steps done for their m3, they can click upgrade 20x and then click speed up once as opposed to having to click 40x.
