Hello tankers! In this article we will be interviewing one of the most renowned persons in Tanki Online; @Jay. He is not only the Help Site administrator, but also an eSports commentator and a YouTuber. This interview serves to motivate all tankers who are willing to try out making videos for Tanki Online themselves as well as an information bank for all the curious tankers out there, who often wonder how YouTubers manage their time and make amazing videos. With out further a do, lets get started!

Hello Jay! Welcome to the official EN community Newspaper!

Thanks for having me.

It is a pleasure to have you with us today. Before I start throwing questions at you, can you please introduce yourself a bit?

Hi, I'm Jay. Currently, I am 19 years old and am attending university. I'm working to get a degree in business administration and then go on to obtain a masters degree. I am currently the EN Help Site Administrator and an eSport commentator. I love helping out the community in TO in anyway I can. I also try to make fun, creative and positive TO videos.

Great! Now, let’s start with the interview. Can you please tell us about when you started YouTube? What motivated you and what keeps you driving to produce excellent content for the community?

I joined YouTube in July, 2016. Yeah.. that's a long time ago. It was summer time and I didn't have anything better to do, so I decided to upload some gameplays and random low quality TO videos.

Over time, I saw other TO YouTubers and felt I needed to do better, so I started to make videos with more effort and it paid off. Sometimes I get lazy and don't want to produce any videos, but seeing people's positive comments on my videos makes me produce more videos.

Awesome! I, for one can definitely agree that positive feedback goes a long way. Would you like to enlighten us a bit about how you plan, shoot and edit your video's?

Sure. Every-time there is a new event going on in TO, I try and plan out a video. If there isn't anything going on, I just record funny things, golds and whatever I think is interesting. I edit whenever I have enough clips to make something.

On some rare occasions I will start editing something, and then delete it if I don't have enough.

Would you like to tell us something about how you edit stuff? I mean, how do you come up with thumbnails and general video edits? Which software do you use?

  • I use Adobe Photoshop for thumbnails.
  • I edit my videos with Final Cut Pro x.

Gathering subscribers is not an easy task. I, myself, have had an experience with gathering subscribers when I used to make videos (some centuries ago). How would describe your experiences while gathering subscribers? (did you beg ask for subs like me? *cough* :x))

Well of course at the start you spam all your friends and ask them to subscribe to your channel. After that, hosting a few occasional giveaways serves to boost your channels subs.

After that, just grind. Work hard, produce videos that people want to watch and subs will come naturally.

That seems like an excellent strategy! My next question is something that probably everyone has on their mind. Is YouTube time-consuming? How do you manage your time?

It can be, depending on how you do YouTube. If you record something for a specific video, then it's very time consuming. This is because you need to plan out what clips you want to record, and such. For example if you want to make a 'pro vs noob' video, you need to manually record different scenarios.

Though at the same time, some videos are not as time consuming as you can gather clips in your normal game play. For example if you want to make a gold box montage, you are not going out of your way to get clips - you get them while playing.

Managing time is hard as I have to deal with my helper duties and university. I try and upload a video every week and I will work on it on the weekend when I have a little more time to spare.

Additionally, you are an eSports Helper and Administrator of the Help site. Would you like to tell us more about your duties in these two helper positions and how you manage to do them effectively side-by-side with YouTube?

As I previously mentioned, I try to do YouTube related things on the weekend. My admin duties are things I do on the daily.

  • In eSports, I am a commentator. My duties are to commentate some matches. I often do a little research on what's going on in the tournaments and familiarize myself with the rules before hopping on a stream.
  • In regards to the Help Site, we answer people's questions daily, as well as update pre-existing helpful articles and we ensure new helpful guides are being posted all the time.

That's fantastic! would you like to give any advice to the aspiring YouTubers of our community?

Don't give up. I know it can be hard and demotivating at times, but just work hard and you can do it. Have a steady upload schedule and create things people want to see. Genuinely put some effort into your videos.

Those were all the questions in my bucket for now. We will be ending this interview here. Is there any message you would like to give to your fans before we close?

Keep rocking!

We hope you guys enjoyed the interview and got to learn something new from it. This is the first part of this series. We will see how this goes and might even make a part two of it with a different YouTuber. Let us know what you think about this down below!

Here we have @Jay the person who puts promocodes in plain sight in his videos having an interview. I didn't know he spammed his friends to sub to his channel lol ???

It seems that he does many "collaborations" with other TO videos, mainly @Mr.Nibbles and @Taspen, while still working as a TO Admin and in university trying to get a master's degree. He has been here since 2016, which is a shorter time than me, but he has a much higher rank. RTL when? But I realized, he probably can't, because of other interesting video ideas.

He has likely seen the MotS final, and how the Pengs overthrew it. But let's not get off-topic. He has participated in many events e.g the Christmas War. But overall, he has been sticking to 1 thing: Play TO and record (and occasionally spend $$$ to make videos), work on helper duties and to also study for a master's degree. I wish you all the best for the future.

To clarify , I have started a YouTube channel in 2016. But my first account in TO was during 2012 when crystal boxes existed.

I see your videos (great job btw!) but your codes never work when I try them. How come? Do they expire after a few hours?

Promo codes are first come first serve, so it mean someone has already used the code before you ?
