I feel like drivers mechanics needs to be reworked because its one of the reasons why ODs are becoming a problem due to how frequent they are activating.

 

So instead of making the OD charge faster, it'll make the supplies cool down end earlier by 1-5 seconds every 30 metres that is traveled by the tank.

 

This new mechanic will encourage the use of light hulls, turrets with shorter range, and attacking more often.

Too much of a change.

Making a new drone would be better. Many have purchased and invested over a Million on it for the purpose it has right now. You have an interesting idea though, which might be better off as a new drone.

Driver barely even does anything after the nerf, coupled with the increased presence of the very balanced Defender, Booster and Lifeguard drones directly restricting its performance.

That's another reason why I suggested to rework drivers mechanics.

If you think there is a problem with overdrives activating too frequently then I'm sorry to disappoint you - but even if Driver was removed from the game totally, it would have almost no impact on that situation. Why? 1) Well first of all almost no-one uses Driver anyway after the nerf (Driver is my highest MU non-Brutus drone and I almost never use it now), as it sucks, and also 2) It sucks - it provides very little benefit to overdrive charge unless you are shredding the enemy team like a madman. You can generally recharge your overdrive as fast, or faster, using Booster and getting extra kills (while having additional damage and constant BD), or Defender by more easily completing objectives/getting kills while being unkillable, or Trickster by capping flags every 5 seconds. Etc...

So yes Driver needs some changes, but if overdrives occurring too frequently seems to be an issue for you, Driver is certainly not to blame, nor event a relevant factor in the current meta - I can assure you of that.

Echoing what @Iron_Man said, this is quite an interesting idea for a new drone. And it certainly would fit with the name "Driver" drone lol.

However as was also mentioned, players including myself and Congo bought and MU-ed Driver because they wanted its current mechanics (before it was nerfed to near-uselessness, of course) with providing faster overdrive recharge. There is nothing imbalanced about such a drone (and wasn't before the nerf), indeed it would need brought back to its previous form, and buffed further, to be competitive with the current top drones - which it never was and certainly isn't now.

I am definitely not gonna suggest this for a new drone. If you want to, then go ahead.

But then again, we don't need any more drones.
